“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.” – Colossians 3:23
Every believer has a calling from God. We are all called to salvation, to service, and to surrender. Discerning and pursuing God’s call in your life becomes the work of a lifetime. Biblically insightful, theologically faithful, and practically helpful, Answering God’s Call will draw readers into a deeper understanding of God’s will for their lives.
Usually I have trouble reading these kind of books, but I actually really liked this book! It had a lot of scripture in it and the references to the Bible verses so you could read what they were talking about! In all, a really good book that I would read again and reccomend!
"Answering God's Call" first comes off as a book that may help the read to discern their calling (toward vocation, if we're going to be specific), but rather leads them down the trail of assurance of salvation and dedication to service in the Body.
While these things are not bad, I first turned to this book because it lead me to believe it would be a guide in helping the lost/confused discern God's calling toward their vocation or vision of the "good life" (per Ready or Not by Moser & Fankhauser). However, Pace's text comes off as an entry level "this is what we believe, and why it matters to you." It's more of a 30,000 foot view of calling in general, which is to love God and love people.
While it is important that we understand our call is to love God and love people, Pace brushes off the usual confusion about "where" the loving people is supposed to take place. Instead, his assertion is that it can happen anywhere in anyplace; those things aren't important. However, this is likely the very reason someone would pick up this book.
It certainly has some gold nuggets of wisdom, don't get me wrong. It is certainly accessible and encouraging. It can also be a very good tool in helping young Christians center themselves around God's call in their lives to follow him. It certainly highlights an all to often neglected feature of being part of the Body of Christ, which is to grow "deeper."
I would recommend giving this a read if you are not looking for vocational calling, but rather spiritual calling.
