Disney Devotionals: 100 Daily Devotionals Based on the Walt Disney World Attractions

Rate this book
When Albert Thweatt began working the night shift in his new job as a paramedic, he realized he would be missing something important. The nightly, family devotionals he had always participated in with his wife and two sons now had to be done without him several nights a week. He hated that he had to miss this special time with his family, so he decided to do something about it. He began writing and emailing devotionals to his wife to be read and discussed with the family. He centered each of these devotionals around one of his favorite subjects and one he knew his family would enjoy as well: Walt Disney World. Disney Devotionals is a collection of 100 daily devotionals each based on a Walt Disney World ride, show, or other attraction. Each devotional begins with some facts, trivia, and highlights for the Disney attraction, then transitions to a thought or lesson based on the same attraction with Biblical scripture references. You and your family will enjoy this fun and inspirational collection of devotionals that will stimulate thought, discussion and growth. Journey through each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks to Disney transportation and every ride, show, and attraction in between. You will acquire lots of fun knowledge about Disney as you also learn about the Bible and the valuable lessons within. Disney Devotionals is a must-have for every family who wants to discover more about Walt Disney World while at the same time gaining valuable Biblical lessons that will help their family grow closer together.

I say, yet again, does no one proofread the books anymore? Seriously, just pay me to proofread books that interest me. Is that too much to ask? ;-)

There is an unpolished quality to the writing, where it is evident that a husband and father is writing for his family, and there is something good and right about that, to be sure, but for consumption outside the structure of his family, this needed a little tidying up, because there were times I felt like I was eavesdropping like some sort of creeper.

As a Christian who is also a Disney fan, I appreciate the effort and the premise. The connections are sometimes tenuous (and sometimes reeeeeally a stretch), but they are still uplifting and there is benefit for seeking Heavenly thoughts even in relation to the things entirely of this world. After all, we were given earthly pleasures while we labor here, in anticipation of eternal joy.

I also came upon some moments of possibly questionable theology, which may have been unintended and purely just poorly communicated thought rather than truly faulty thinking about the Word, but they were enough to give me pause. I might be a wee bit concerned that someone with new faith could be easily led in a dangerous direction on a few of these, as opposed to someone whose faith is a bit more mature and able to discern moderate contradictions in the interpretation of the Scripture.

While I received this as a gift and enjoyed it for what it was, I sincerely doubt I will pursue the subsequent volumes which have been published.

A sweet set of devotionals for a family who loves Disney. However the book needs a serious editing for readability. Errors were abundant and made sentences difficult to read at multiple points. I also would have like a little more devotional for each day instead of so much of each entry being devoted to Disney.

I should start off by acknowledging that this devotional book was originally meant for the children of the author, and I am reading it as an adult with no relation to the author. Because of that, there are some obvious instances of where it didn't feel like the right devotional book for me. Many of the devotionals were very over-simplified (because they were made for kids!), and there were a couple where I really felt like the author was leaning pretty heavily on his own personal interpretations.

That being said, I still gave the book three stars because I learned a LOT about Disney Parks and I enjoyed the practice of going through the book each day! I think this would be a great devotional book for families with younger kids that like Disney, or anyone that's really interested in learning about the Disney Parks.

I saw this at a thrift store and I had to have it. The author and his wife love Disney. While he would be away at work he decided to write Disney devotionals for his kids to read each night and spark a discussion on. I thought it was very fun and I loved all the fun facts about Disney for each attraction. The author also had to be pretty creative for linking some of these to Jesus. My family will be very annoyed with me the next time we go to Disney and I start telling them how everything links to God.

A great devotional for a Disney loving family.

Written for his wife and son, Albert Thweatt writes a collection of devotionals based off of the Walt Disney World attractions for his family to do together while he is at work. For the most part, each devotional is set up with the first half/ 3 quarters is background information about the attraction and the end is the actual devotional part.

I think that if you have children, this is a great devotional. I think it would be great to do as a family in the months leading up to a Disney trip. Is this the best written devotional? No. Does it completely fill my spiritual cup? No. Did I feel like some of the connections were a stretch? Yup. But with all that said, I did enjoy it. I can see it leading to some great conversations for a family. If you love Disney and Christ, I recommend it.

This is an interesting book to review. For Disney World fans, it is most assuredly fun to walk through the parks and discuss the attractions, one by one. And the author does a nice job bridging each attraction to a devotional thought. Now, to be clear, he wrote this as a family devotional for his children. So you are not getting deep theological insight and discussion. It is meant to share as a family and let that spur the discussion you might have as a family based on the age of the kids. But even as a daily read (I read one each day), it was fun for this Christian Disney fan.

Great book with daily devotionals tying Disney World experiences into the Christian life. The only reason it received 4 stars instead of 5 is because I’m a little OCD and feel that published books should have better editing. Typos and misused words bother me and distract me when I’m reading. Otherwise I really enjoyed the messages and the creative ways rides and shows were tied to scripture to remind us at each experience different things we are to remember and do as Christians.

As a Disney fanatic, I was so excited to begin my day with this book of devotions inspired by my happy place and Albert Thweatt did not disappoint. The length of each devo was ideal for a morning or evening session with God. I loved it so much that I occasionally read more than one devo in a day. I highly recommend this for book for anyone who is inspired to grow in their faith while incorporating their love for Walt Disney World.

I'd probably give it a 2.5, but I'll round up for the author's sake. I wanted to like it more than I did. The Disney history/facts weren't particularly enlightening to me, and neither were the faith connections which felt like a stretch at times and theologically shaky at others. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. It was okay. Good on him for connecting to his family while away in this way, but I'm not sure I need to read it again.

Every Disney World attraction can help us remember the really important things. It is fun to read about each attraction, a little bit of history, what the experience is like, and the spiritual message the author found and shared.

Cute little devotional. I love how they linked the rides and different attractions at WDW to certain scriptures or themes of the Bible. It was a unique devotional and I can't wait to read the others that have been written.

I love that this book is easy and fun for a child to understand but deep enough for an adult to get something out of it. I can’t wait to read the second devotional.

A fun idea for a book, but the devotions lack well-articulated hermeneutics. I think I’d rather write Disney devotions for my own family when we visit.

This is a great read for any Disney lover. It relates so much of the Bible to what is at Disney and opens the readers eyes to new things!

So many interesting facts about Disney, and I love how he can find scripture to relate
