The Instant Pot® Kosher Cookbook: 100 Recipes to Nourish Body and Soul

Rate this book
Welcome to the first Instant Pot® cookbook to feature kosher food. Paula Shoyer has expertly developed a robust array of both traditional and contemporary kosher recipes for the king of all kitchen the Instant Pot®!

Jewish food and the Instant Pot® are a natural fit. So many traditional Jewish dishes are soups and stews—prepared before Friday night and kept warm throughout Shabbat, when observant Jews aren’t allowed to cook—and that’s the sweet spot of the Instant Pot®. For decades, Jewish families have relied on slow cookers to achieve the soft, flavor-filled stews of their ancestors, but they lamented the time required. Now, the Instant Pot® allows for vastly shorter cooking times without compromising flavor or texture. The Instant Pot ® Kosher Cookbook includes timeless Jewish favorites tailored to this modern stuffed cabbage, Israeli cooked salads, corned beef, brisket, cholent, Yemenite and Persian beef and lamb stews, chicken soup, beet soup, kasha varnishkes, tzimmis, even apple cake. There are weeknight meals as well as recipes for Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, and Passover, along with kosher versions of international classics such as lasagna, sesame noodles, arroz con pollo, Asian noodle soups, and risotto—all expertly and deliciously adapted to the Instant Pot®.

I really enjoyed this cookbook. I appreciate it more for its thoughtful variety and its sensitivity to classic kosher flavor profiles than for its Instant Pot focus. It brings attention to dishes that are often overlooked in modern Jewish cookbooks—cholent and tzimmes, for example—instead of defaulting to brisket and latkes.

What sets this book apart is its celebration of the deeper, warmer notes of Jewish cuisine: cinnamon, apples, honey, and other comforting flavors that evoke tradition and home. It beautifully captures the essence of Jewish cooking as comfort food—rich and satisfying, yet without the oily heaviness of Southern cuisine or the carb-and-cheese focus of Italian fare. Overall, I loved the thoughtful recipe selection and will definitely return to it again.

OK, so I got an Instant Pot this past fall, but honestly I have no idea how to use it. I also didn't believe it could actually cook food that fast. Let me tell you, the thing is amodern miracle. Also, this book is quite good. It's got useful recipes that actually taste great. Highly recommended.

The recipes seem simple enough. I plan to use the chicken paprikash often.

Was hoping for more traditional recipes that would be easier to use in the Instant Pot but these are more Jew-ish recipes and some require a lot more work than just putting stuff together in a pot.
