A Corner of Every Foreign Field is an innovative and thought-provoking take on the history of cricket, looking beyond the scorecards to the pivotal issues of class, politics and imperialism that have shaped the game today. Author Tim Brooks skilfully delves into the past while providing a unique vision for the future of cricket.
Tim Brooks is an experienced and respected cricket writer and commentator specialising in the global game. The acclaimed author of Cricket on the Continent and A Corner of Every Foreign Field, he has contributed regularly to Wisden and was former head of cricket for QTV Sports, commenting on a wide range of ICC events. He has also worked directly with cricket nations to grow and publicise the game, with a focus on northern Europe and Scandinavia. A history graduate, Tim is fascinated by the cultural context of the game and cricket's unique ability to inspire passion and devotion.
A good and balanced history of the game clearly well researched and with sufficient anecdotes that the historical aspect doesn’t become dry. I very much liked the latter chapters where the modern game and its governance is reviewed. Whilst quite a dry topic by nature a very enjoyable read.
