Julie Erickson Mysteries #1

Deadly Development

Rate this book
Rolling Hills Condominium Development isn’t a place one would expect to find murder. Maybe that’s why the police believe the deaths of two senior citizens appear to be accidents. But forty-something resident and recent widow Julie Erickson isn’t so sure. Even though one of the ladies was obnoxious and bossy, the other was loved by everyone who knew her. And the more Julie learns about the days just before their deaths, the more convinced she is that something is amiss. Between her work at the hospital thrift shop, early morning walks with her best friend Meg, preparations for an annual craft fair, and getting to know her handsome new neighbor, Julie asks questions. But it soon becomes clear that someone doesn’t want her to find the answers.

This is a new-to-me author. The book is well-written and I didn’t figure out who the perpetrator was. I hope there will be other books in the series.

A new cozy mystery main character to befriend! Julie, recently widowed, finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery in her own neighborhood and Homeowners Association! When two elderly residents are murdered, Julie decides to find out why - before it happens again!

I enjoyed this book and the mystery kept me guessing. There were so many possibilities that made sense! The backstory of Julie starting to move on from recent heartbreak - her husband's death - was handled respectfully and it added to understanding why she felt she had to solve the mystery. The group of neighbors, suspects and friends, was entertaining. Bet we can all find examples of our own neighbors in the book!

There was a budding friendship/romance with a new neighbor, Grant who is a mystery/true crime author. The friendship between Grant and Julie was a nice change from the romantic interest being a law enforcement official. The loving relationship between Julie and her college age daughter, Kate and the friendship between Julie and her best friend and co-investigator, Meg- was touching and heartwarming!

I'm looking forward to the next Julie Erickson Mystery!

Julie Erickson asks a lot of questions after two deaths happen close together at The Rolling Hills Condominium Development. The more she learns the more she finds herself putting the puzzle together on what happens and placing herself in harm's way.
The book has a lot of characters but it is set in a HOA development so they are needed to show a complete picture of what goes on in the neighborhood. Cristine does a wonderful job of giving you just enough of the interactions of the people and their feelings of each other but not enough to have the Murder solved by the middle of the book. I did not see the ending coming, had me guessing with the twists and turns.

I don't typically read cozy mysteries, but loved this one! Great character development and a surprising and satisfying ending. Looking forward to seeing what other messes Julie may get herself into in future books.

Great read!

Good mystery. Clean language and no sex. I didn’t guess who did it. Kept me guessing and I was wrong. Grammar and punctuation were correct. It’s not every day one can get ebooks this day for a first time author. Want to read more by this author!
