Rate this book
A riveting new addition to the bestselling Mumbaistan series.

This triad of domestic-suspense noir is packed with secrets and scheming characters. There are twists and turns in unexpected places that will have you holding your breath. And shocking twist-in-the-tale endings that will leave you wanting more.

In The Simple Girl, a distraught schoolteacher is sucked into a disastrous maze of deceit to save her dying husband.

In Maid for Murder, an impoverished housemaid finds her life spiralling out of control when she tries to help the unhappy couple she works for.

In Inspector Hijra, Mumbai’s first transgender police officer puts her precarious reputation and job at risk to unravel the mystery of the abduction of a foreign tourist’s child.

Piyush Jha draws readers deep into the heart of Mumbaistan, a metaphor for the dark corners and hidden crime in the seething underbelly of Mumbai. A city of dreams for many. But for some, a nightmare.

Cover Page: The cover depicts a shadow of women, which I believe is surrounded by darkness and there is light at the end of the tunnel. The cover is apt as per the stories. So Kuddos.

Review: I am a huge fan of Piyush Sir’s work. I have read his every book and being a Mumbai girl, it found its top spot. This book consist of 3 stories all about women from Mumbai and how they had been involved in crimes one way or another.

The Simple Girl: The longest story in the book and covers 50% of it. And what can I say as expected from the author he has left no stones for the reader to guess and I really liked the story. The story about a school teacher kidnapping a kid and how she uncovers the racket.
Maid for Murder: The story as the title suggests is about a maid who commits a murder. What led her to commit such a gruesome act is what the story is all about. I felt a few points were not clarified and hence for me, it was just an ok read.
Inspector Hijra: The story is of a Hijra trying to find a kidnapped child and prove his value in the police. Whether she is able to save a child in nick of time is whole plot/
Overall I am disappointed with the book as only the first chapter meets my expectation rest were an average read and didn’t add value to the book

A blockbuster turned mediocre.

The first Novella is the best in this collection of three stories , followed by Maid for Murder ( the next short story).Only Inspector Hijra, the last in the collection is a bit of a let down.
Piyush Jha knows his Mumbai and has its pulse.
The dark underbelly of the Maximum City comes alive through his magical pen . Well worth a read ,but not for the squeamish !

All three stories are unique, with well-chalked out characters and interesting plot lines! Perfect twists in each story take the reader by surprise! A riveting read, to say the least!
