Essential Chakra Meditation
Master the art of chakra healing and help free yourself from worry and exhaustion.
Essential Chakra Meditation is a well-constructed, well-ordered, and well-written little book. It’s subject is the healing of impaired chakra energy flows by means of meditation. Yes, that’s rather New Agey but if that’s how you roll, you’ll find this work inspiring and helpful. Or if you’re looking to get into meditation, you’ll find some easy-to-follow, guided meditations here.
The book is 140 pages of colorful illustrations, readable fonts, pleasing colors, and sturdy construction (I appreciate the latter in any book). Just holding it feels good. I only wish it would lay flat, which would help it function as a workbook-guide when you’re doing the meditations.
In ten chapters, divided into two parts, Ms. Pfender (a Reiki master teacher) lays out her program of healing meditations. The first part is three chapters of introduction to the concept of chakras and how they work (as well as the problems arising when they don’t work). Meditation is offered as the primary tool for chakra healing, and so the basics of meditating are reviewed. This includes the use of mantras (Sanskrit and English) and mudras (hand postures).
I like this section explaining concepts. It describes them in straightforward and intelligent prose without trying to convince readers of the reality of chakras and energy flows (readers must bring those convictions with them, or at least an openness to such). It includes a color-coded section of one-page descriptions of the seven major chakras, containing information such as location-on-body, Sanskrit name, color, associated crystals, etc. This feature makes the book a handy reference for your spiritual library.
The second part is a collection of twenty-one guided meditations that take you through the work of chakra balancing/healing. In seven chapters (one for each chakra), Ms. Pfender provides three meditations for each. The chapters begin with a description of the chakra followed by mantras and mudras you can use in the associated meditations.
The meditations are presented by the time required to do them: five, fifteen, and thirty minutes. I would consider these approximate times, actually. If you’re new to meditation, you’ll probably spend more time on each. So you might think of these as short, medium, and long meditations.
And I do like the way the meditations are presented. They begin with suggested postures and take you through a mental settling (usually, an awareness of breath) and then into a guided imagination focusing on the properties of the selected chakra. You could record these written guides and play them as you perform the meditations. They’re actually simple enough that you can read them and get enough understanding to do the meditations. Personally, I think this is the best way so that you don’t become dependent on a recording, and you can understand that you’re not following a hard-and-fast script.
Does this work? That question is beyond the scope of this review, but I will say that I think meditation is one of the most helpful activities you can perform for your mental and spiritual health (which affects the physical). The key is persistence (which is true for any meditation program). Any attempt you make will be helpful because in spiritual work, everything counts. As Ms. Pfender says:
Meditation is one of the most efficient tools for energetic repair. It just takes practice and discipline to know what to look for and how to practice energetic clearings.
When you look into meditation practices, you find a wide range of methodologies. I see them as divided into the broad categories of (1) guided/imaginative meditations and (2) stilling your mind. The program in Essential Chakra Meditation is a combination of these, though with a greater emphasis on the former. So you begin with breathing and settling, then move into a guided imagination. This method strikes me as a good balance and makes this book an easy recommendation for the spiritually minded.
You can easily read this book in one evening, but don't. Spend at least one day on each section, savoring the meditations and visualizations on each chakra that Pfender provides. You will be glad you did.
Very good and concise introduction to what each Chakra is an what effects a blocked/unblocked Chakra will have. I have read the main part of the book, now the remaining part is just meditation practices for each Chakra that I will be working through from Root to Crown.
I really enjoyed this small little book! The book helps you uncover and empower your own meditation capabilities through a deep dive into techniques and meditation tools that are critical for anyone attempting to heal and open their chakras. The author is a Reiki master teacher and a meditation instructor, she covers the vital energy centers (Chakras), when the energy is blocked, how does the energy get blocked, how blocked energy affects the body, what is energy, unblocking the chakras, the power of meditation, and various healing tools (reiki, yoga, essential oils and herbs, crystals). What I found the most inspiring about this book is how in-depth the author covers each of the seven main chakras. For example, location of each chakra in the body, the Sanskrit name, energy color, what each governs, seed syllable (mantra), affirmation of each chakra, the crystals that focus on each, the mudra for each, and essential oils/herbs that stimulate each individual chakra. In addition, what I found most useful about the entire book is a 5, 15, 30 minute visualization mediation for each charka. I highly recommend this book for anyone on the path of spiritual enlightenment.
Opening the chakras and keeping them clear will allow revelations to ease your awakening journey. I could try to explain the unexplainable but I won't. All I can say is I now see. Soon you will too. Meditation is the key.
My first exposure to reiki and meditation. I appreciated the meditation exercises, as well as the supplemental mudras and mantras, however I am not sure all of it is for me--but isn't that sort of the point?
I'm not a strong believer in chakras or Reiki, to be honest, but I like to keep an open mind and learn new things. Additionally, meditation has been shown to have beneficial effects so sure, why not?
This was a great introduction to chakras, even for a newbie like me. A few things could have used a little bit more information - Pfender clearly expected at least some familiarity from her readers - but overall, it was a great beginner's guide. For those a little bit more in-depth into this sort of thing, I imagine it might be a bit simplistic, but for newbies dipping their toes into the water, it was an excellent primer.
The bulk of the book is in guided visualizations and meditations, many of which are more active, which is nice and suits my interests better. I find myself slipping into a better state when I am actually doing something, and she has a nice blend of what we might think of as "traditional" meditation with journaling, yoga poses, and even art therapy. Additionally, each meditation has extensions to it designed to help you explore your inner self, which look to be helpful even if you don't fully buy into chakras.
The only complaint I have is that some of the poses or activities weren't illustrated, and particularly with yoga poses, diagrams or illustrations would be nice, but that's a mere quibble.
An excellent book for learning more about chakras, meditation, and exploring one's inner self.
NB: I received a copy of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you are new to meditation like me, this is a nice book to learn the background and get an introduction to meditation history, techniques and how to maximize the benefit of consistent meditation. Starting with a general background on Chakras, such as the seven major Chakras that can be used for healing, and how Chakras relate to energy and healing in general, the author, who is a Reiki master teacher, then proceeds to explain how each of the Chakras can be targeted with specific exercises. Each of these seven chapters is following the same set up, listing the relevant element, mantras and the sanskrit mantras. I really liked that the author also included then specific meditation routines to fit the Chakras, lasting from 15 to 30 minutes. I found this book at the beginning a little bit overwhelming and had to read some sections twice. But that is because I am relatively new to this form of meditation and the terminology took some time getting used. But once I was familiar with the tools and the terminology, and here the background section really helped, the book was in my opinion a good introduction to meditation and really provided a course on the Chakra-focused meditation. If you are not a total novice, this book will be a much easier read, but still provide good lessons and some useful exercises.
I find meditation very helpful personally, though I most often use it for relaxation. Nevertheless, I've been intrigued by all the different "types" of meditation and so this little book seemed like it might be interesting. Chakras I have heard of, mostly in the context of yoga but they are a concept that I don't really understand very well. I found this book to be very informative on the subject. It's organized in sections by the chakras. The author starts with a presentation of the chakra and what it does and how it relates to the other chakras. There is also discussion of how blockages in a chakra can affect the individual physically. Each section concludes with meditation exercises that relate to the chakra. The meditations are of various lengths so you can pick the ones that best suit the time you have available. I found that the meditations were presented in a very straightforward way that I think would be easy for beginners or more experienced meditators to practice. Ultimately, I'm not sure if I believe in the chakras but I really enjoyed how the concepts and meditations were presented.
Anyone interested in learning more about chakras and putting them to action should read this essential introductory guide. Part one of this guide is all about awakening your healing power. It delves into the chakra and meditation connection, identifies all the body's chakras, and has a brief how to on getting started. Part two is about putting all that knowledge into practice and each chapter is a different chakra meditation for a different energy center on your body. It's very simple, well written, and easy to put into practice. It's even a nice pocket sized book that can be carried around to and referred to whenever needed. Focus inward and use this book to help reset your body and mind in today's hectic world.
This is an easy to read and understand introduction to chakra meditation. I didn't know anything about chakras going into this book, so I appreciated that the first third was dedicated to explaining what the chakras are and what they represent. Then the second two thirds were dedicated to several meditations for each chakra. This book is really beautifully designed, even in my ebook version. I bet the physical version is just gorgeous. There are different colors for each chakra, and there are different "mudras" which are hand positions you can use to channel energy. The author definitely knows a lot about her topic and this book was clear and well-written.
NetGalley provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
This is a pretty cool little book. I appreciated the friendly and straightforward writing style. Nothing too flowery and nothing that over promised. Short cliff notes style introductions to all the chakras, to meditation, and to some "extras" you may choose to incorporate.
No meditations are offered until about 38% into the book, but once they start, they are well build and simple to follow. I'd prefer an audio recording of someone leading me through these meditations to reading them and trying to take myself through them, bu this is a failing of any book without an audio recording. The book is available on audible so one could listen to the meditations if one desired.
I found this guide very interesting and an effective introduction to meditation. I cannot pretend that I managed to get myself completely in tune with the subject matter but I feel that this is more likely to be me than the subject matter itself. If one is seeking self discovery then this is certainly a path to navigate but there are others and as always, in issues such as this, it is a matter of what resonates with you personally rather than seeking a definitive universal pathway.
I love this book because of it's simple language and very understandable explanation of the theme. I learned a lot from this book. I recommend everybody studying holistic therapy to read it.
The perfect book for all levels! Keeping our Chakra's cleared is so very important and this book is a step by step guide to learning how to do just that!
