Spirited Storms #4

A Very Merry Viscount

Rate this book
The thought of spending Christmas at Danby Castle with her matchmaking great-uncle filled Lady Tabitha Storm’s heart with dread. She would love a match, of course, with the handsome horseman she’d spied in Hyde Park throughout the last season. Unfortunately, she doesn’t even know the gentleman’s name. But settling for anyone else is the last thing she’d ever do. Andrew Delaney, Viscount Straffan was determined to eat, drink and be merry surrounded by family and friends in Ireland, but when The Duke of Danby dangled the one thing he coveted among all others, he had no choice but to travel to Yorkshire for Christmas. Before Danby will agree to the deal, he required one final task. Thankfully, it involved the beauty Andrew had spied strolling in Hyde Park. Would Andrew gain more this holiday than he ever dreamed, or would his Irish heritage stand in his way? Another lovely novella, it flows so well. Characters are well portrayed & how Tabitha comes alive again is very touching & Andrew is swoon worthy. I first read this in the Duke's Christmas Conundrum & it was my favourite of all nine novellas in the anthologies

This is probably my second favorite story from this series. The first is Nate and Mary’s story.

Tabitha and Andrew were meant to be together. There’s the physical attraction and the certain machinations of Danby to bring about what he always knew was right.

I like the sweetness and lightness of this story and there’s a tiny bit of conflict but it was easily resolved.

I’m not a lover of horses but I was happy for Tabitha when she was able to conquer her fear and get back on the saddle (literally).

This was a light and quick read and it was fun too.

A Very Merry Viscount is book four in The Spirited Storms series by Jane Charles. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. What do you do when the man you have a crush on thinks you are an imbecile? This book took me by surprise. I enjoyed the various twists and turns in the plot. I loved the Irish hero - Andrew Delaney, Viscount Straffan. So many Regency Era romances have all English characters. I found this romance to be a nice change. I liked the heroine Tabitha Storm but Andrew stole the show for me. “He stared down at her, his blue eyes darkening. “Normally. I make wise decisions, but with ye, lass…” He didn’t finish his sentence and instead placed his lips against hers again and this time he also wrapped his arms about her, pulling Tabitha close. She clung to his shoulders as Straffan deepened the kiss, warming her inside and out.” Another great book in a truly lovely series. This is a sweet romance with only a few heated kisses.

I might have given this book five stars, but the editing was atrocious. I expect a few errors in an ARC, but this book seemed to have never been proofread. There were missing words, misplaced punctuation, and sometimes, the wrong words. This sentence floored me: Danby "... simply manipulated people about as one would chest pieces, and it galled him to know end." Another time, worry married her brow instead of marred her brow. Tabitha "glanced aback(!) at the stables." But this was probably the best: "The astonishment on her face was calcification that she had no idea how he felt." To be honest, I laughed out loud at that one. The editing was so bad, I have no interest in reading anything else from this author. And that's particularly sad because I thought it was a great story (even if Andrew was a bit overly fatalistic).

I read this as part of the Twelve Lords of Yuletide collection.

Read in the Twelve Lords for Yuletide anthology 4.5*. This was a very enjoyable story featuring as it did a young lady with a fear to be overcome and an Irish nobleman which made a nice change from the normal Regency romance. I was surprised though at the numerous typos as this was released a couple of years ago - perhaps not the most up to date version was uploaded to the Anthology?

A Merry Little Read

A novella, but tucked into fewer pages is a charming story. There is a problem or two to overcome which is told in enough detail so that the story doesn't wallow in too much tortured longing.

A nice holiday story for the most part. However, there was way too much repetition about how he wasn’t good enough for her and several spelling/ grammar errors (too many to overlook).

This is another fun Christmas novella featuring the match-making Duke of Danby. Andrew Delaney just wants to make a deal with the duke to buy some land adjoining his family's property. He's only interested in improving his stables--certainly not getting married. He hopes to get in, get the contracts signed, and get out before Christmas. But he is interested in getting to know Tabitha Storm a little better, and since she's at the castle, too, he might as well stick around.

Tabitha doesn't want to marry anybody but the mystery man she has seen riding around Hyde Park. But she's afraid the duke has plans for her and her sisters, so she'd just rather stay out of sight. That is until she finds out the one man she could fall for has been invited to spend Christmas at her uncle's castle.

I always love these stories. They are fun and quick to read, and I like finding out more about the various families all tied to the Duke of Danby.

This book is about Andrew and Tabitha who were attracted to each other when they saw each other in the park before they even knew each other’s name. Their attraction grew the more they were together, but Andrew did not think he would be allowed to court Tabitha because he was Irish and his family has had problems with the Duke of Danby. (Tabitha’s Great-Uncle) But the Duke had plans of his own. (I like the Duke of Danby).
This story was well written and a nice easy enjoyable read. I finished this book in one evening and I enjoyed it so much I do not know where the time went. Jane Charles is a talented writer and you will enjoy this book.

I was extremely happy with this story! Tabitha and Andrews story was the perfect Christmas story! Both came to the castle expecting one thing, but never expecting to fall in love. Tabitha was terrified of horses since an accident and Andrew was just hoping to buy property. Neither expected love. The way the story progressed and the characters got to really know each other was perfect. Plus, love at Christmas time is a winner for me! Thank you for the gifted copy, I'm a sucker for all the Lord Danby relations!

Fun story! great read

Andrew - an Irish viscount who owns a stud farm and race horses.
Tabitha - grand niece of Duke of Danby, has a fear of horses and has overbearing mother
I enjoyed reading this intriguing story that is fantastically written with charismatic characters. Their story has a magnificent HEA.
