When Penelope’s best friend Evette begs her to pick up her older brother from the airport she unwillingly agrees to do so but under the impression that all she would have to do is drop Zeek off at his parents' home and be on her merry way. Never in a million years did she expect for some of the feelings that she thought she’d buried twelve years ago to resurface to the forefront of her mind when it came to her once secret crush. Ezekiel’s excitement about returning home after being gone for twelve years was only being hyped up because of one person...Penelope, his little sister’s best friend. Ezekiel knew that P was more than upset with him for standing her up on one of the most important nights of her life but what she didn’t know was the real reason behind why he never showed up. Both Ezekiel and Penelope are blown away when they first lay eyes on each other after not having any type of contact or communication in over a decade. Will past hurts cause their little reunion to be an unpleasent one or will they both be open to exploring the feelings they obviously still have for one another once Ezekiel reveals who’s always had his heart?
How it started: 🎶 Give me the reason to want you back. Why should I love you again? Do you know, tell me how. How to forgive and forget 🎶
How it ended: 🎶 Reunited, and it feels so good. Reunited 'cause we understood. There's one perfect fit and, sugar, this one is it. We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited, hey, hey 🎶
Zeek is back home from Germany after serving 12 years in the military. Excited to finally be back in the states, he has tunnel vision when it comes to reuniting with the only woman that he has ever loved and left broken hearted prom night.
As a favor to her bff, P picks up her childhood friend from the airport and the pimple faced, bifocal wearing nerd that left her hanging prom night many years ago has grown tf up!! The military did Zeek a world of good but before she can get lost in this GQ work of art, she needs answers to burning questions that have led to many sleepless nights.
This was a really cute fast paced romance on love and forgiveness. I can appreciate Zeek’s reason for leaving and what he did for P was beyond noble but I do feel like a conversation could have and should have been had before now especially with P having such a close bond with Zeek’s family.
This was my first introduction to Genesis thanks to BRAE and I would absolutely give her catalog a deeper dive! 3.5 💫’s
Ezekiel is all man!!! He came home 12 years later and paid attention to everything Penelope loved and showed her why she’s it for him. I’m enjoying this author work and definitely can’t wait to read more.
Next to the phrase it's always been you, you will find a picture of Ezekiel's Heart. This book snuck into my reading plans like a thief in the night and stole my attention. When I tell you I was left drooling after Zeek from the moment she described him stepping out of the airport. Then you add on that BBQ joint run in scene with the lousy ex and top it off with all the reveals and special gifts! I was an absolute goner.
I loved that Penelope found ways to cherish this man, especially with the epilogue! You could tell that they really loved each other and had a friendship. My good sis deserved all of the things and more after seeing her trash exes. Go ahead and unwrap your present P, Zeek is the birthday gift that keeps giving :-)
Just how I like my short stories. No conflicts, no drama, filled with loooveee. Just plain cute. I enjoyed this little short, though I could have gone without those run-on sentences.
P never got over Ezekiel standing her up for prom. Even after the twelve years they spent apart, she still wanted answers. Ezekiel never forgave himself for not showing up to take P to her prom. Moving back home, he felt it was the perfect time to revel his feelings and make it up to her. This was a cute second chance at love novella.
It was short and straight to the point. To be in love with someone else for years and your feelings have not changed at all. They have me wanting to read more about them.
A second chance, best friends brother romance. Ezekiel has been in the military in Germany for 12 years. Penelope has somewhat resented him for how he up and left her without an explanation. Her best friend is Zeeks sister and she couldn’t pick him up from the airport so Penelope chose to do so and they still had chemistry. This was absolutely sweet and I adored Ezekiel. He made it up to her in some of the sweetest ways and P gave him a sweet surprise at the end too. I’ll definitely be reading more from Genesis Woods
I loved P and Zeek's story even though it was short it packed a punch full.of goodness. Zeek is bae hands down, even with years apart he was so thoughtful and caring and the magnitude in which he expressed his love for P was unmatched. I would definitely love to read more about their romance. Until then I can't wait to dive into what's next
Zeek and P love last throughout the years. It was still as strong as it was when they met in high school. P deserved a real love because of all the mess she went through with her ex Tyrik.
This was short but cute and complete. It fits right in for a Valentine's Day read, I would recommend it.
I loved P and Zeek’s short love story. It’s always a good read when friends become lovers. Zeek was definitely book bae and i can’t wait to read more from this author. Great Read!
So good! This was so romantic and honestly a whole vibe. I love friends to lovers stories so this was right up my alley and Ezekiel was bae AF. Great read!
When I picked up this read I needed something short and sweet to help break up my work day. This friends to lovers read delivered on those two requests.
The story is told completely from Penelope “P” Richardson point of view as she reconnects with long lost friends and runs some interesting errands. We met P after a break up from a guy she honestly saw no future with in Tyrik. I like Penelope because she wasn’t really sweating the recent breakup and how easy going she was to even be in the position to have the reconnection opportunity on her day. To me it showed the type of friend she was to Evette - Ezekiel’s little sister.
The story centers around the homecoming of Ezekiel “Zeek” Pruitt after 12 years of Military service and living in Germany he has returned home for good. Zeek let it be known that he was interested in P as more than just friends from their 1st interaction at the curb at the airport pick up. I loved how he threw shade at someone disrespecting P letting it be known that he had no interest in them romantically and how he defended her when it was needed.
I would say that in that defense he was kind of reckless with what he was saying out in public. I am not sure if that part was realistic but I didn’t really care for the sexual objectification. The build up to the big why of this story was cute and honorable but that didn’t stop how a phone works. But who am I, Penelope was fine with what was offered by way of explanation. 🤷🏾♀️ I would have also love more of a description of the main characters.
🚨Trigger Warning🚨 Death of parents is discussed in this read.
Speaking of offering Genesis, ensures that the steam is A1 in each of her offerings and Zeek and Penelope didn’t disappoint. This was a cute lunchtime read. 3.4 stars ✨
Queen Genesis really gave us love, laughter, a lil drama and some bomb sex is this V'day short. Going any length of time without the one who holds the KEY to your heart is hard, but 12 years of never knowing if those feelings were mutual. P was holding on to hurt from a misunderstanding she thought was so much more for years. Zeek stayed away for 12 years with the understanding that P hated him. These two finally got the chance to bare their souls and get a real understanding what happened 12 years ago. Their journey to the truth wasn't easy with disrespectful exes popping up trying to ruin their reunion. Zeek played no games about P, he ain't care who you were. After He slipped up and told her f'boy ex that if he crane near her he'd kill him with his bare hands cause he'd almost done it before😳👀. When he finally told her why he up and disappeared 12 years ago, hell I was shocked but at the same time I was like dayyyuuummm, he love her fr. He most definitely kept his word afterwards and gave her 12 years worth of🍆😜.
Well, that read was a pleasant surprise! However, a little editing goes a long way! Otherwise my rating could have been five ⭐️’s. Nevertheless, “Ezekiel’s Heart: A Valentine’s Day Short Story” was nostalgic journey into Penelope & Zeek’s nonexistent/unexplored/never materialized high school crush. Hmmm, I guess 🧐? …I understand the premise but the storyline wasn’t fully developed. …(I’m an analyst, assessments are as natural as breathing to me 🤷🏾♀️🤭‼️) But I appreciated, Zeek’s efforts to reconcile the disappointments from their past, delight in their present with determination & clarity and to demonstrate that The P & Z experience is/was more than chemistry. Their relationship, romance & love 💘 wasn’t just carnal or rapid. But rather his/her/their Valentine’s Day affinity was 365/24/7 established ten years prior, had matured in their absence & (their love) posthumously approved by a sentimental present 💝‼️ Too sweet 🥰!
Ezekiel(Zeek) returns home after being away for 12 years and Penelope (P) is there to pick him up. After seeing each other, feelings that they both had died came rushing back. The only thing was P wanted to know why Zeek stood her up for prom. They spend the day together reminiscing about the old times. Zeek and P spent her birthday and Valentine's together and finally found out why he stood her up. This was my first read by this author and I loved it. This story talked about getting the person you have always loved, even after years have went past. This just shows the heart wants what the heart want. Zeek and P were a very cute couple and he came back at the perfect time. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
This was a nice friends to lovers romance and it was interesting after all those years of being away the love Ezekial had for Penelope didn’t fade away. When you find out the reason why he went to the military and also stood her up for prom you can tell from there the love was real and it was nice to see the feeling was mutual even though she never thought about it previously.
I appreciated the lengths that he took to make her feel special on her birthday which also happened to be Valentine’s Day. I thought it was also nice how he gave her career advice too from his personal experience and encouraged her to do what she felt she would really be interested in.
I felt there were some scenes that were brought up that I would have liked to see expanded upon a little more between their first sexual encounter and the epilogue but overall I enjoyed the book.
A love revealed over barbecue and peach cobbler hits home
I really enjoyed this book. Zeek/Ezekiel, a protector and provider, returns home on P's/Penelope's special day which is also Valentine's Day. She is his sister's best friend and he's no longer a nerdy looking guy. He comes with many gifts, but nothing is better than Zeek explaining what happened all those years ago. This a beautiful romance with a few short twists and turns leading to love being revealed.
I liked the fact that these friends could reconnect after 12 years, iron out their issues and establish the relationship that was meant to be. What I didn't like was the confrontation with the ex and Zeke's manly display (or his words, for that matter). Also, it's been 12 years! Why are they rolling in the hay on day one? Regardless of their prior friendship, this was an absolute NO for me.
I’m never disappointed with any of Genesis’ books, but I could definitely read more about P and Zeke. This short story had twelve years of pent up feelings that came to the forefront and proved that absence can definitely make the heart grow fonder. Great Valentine’s shirt story.
Wow Zeek and P are relationship goals for sure and I enjoyed their love reveal. Sometimes the heart protects you until the one it’s meant for is in sync with you and I enjoyed the love, pain, and hot sex these two generated. A beautiful short read in one sitting great story!
I like how Zeek stepped up and showed P how special she was to him and how he had always loved her. I do feel his parents should've told her why he stood her up instead of letting her be angry at him for twelve years but I guess that they felt that it was his story to tell. This is a prime example of better late than never.
I need to find me a Zeek! This is my first time reading this author and it won’t be my last. She was able to build a story with great characters and situations that place the reader right there in it. And let me tell you she does it masterfully. The scene at the BBQ joint! Honey!
Penelope and Ezekiel had a never forget about your first love- love story. Z, was the geek and P was his younger sisters best friend. When they saw one another again after twelve years, he was hella handsome, and she was still crushing on big bro. Yes, you will love their story and ending.
GW delivered a super cute childhood friends to lovers story. I loved Zeek’s thoughtfulness - so sweet! And the satisfying run-in with the ex was great. It seemed like maybe P had self esteem issues so it was nice to see her with the person who truly saw and treasured her.
This short story was filled with memories and sexiness and humor. I enjoyed both characters so much and their walk down memory lane via their fave hometown spots. That was a nice backdrop to this reconnected pair. The other characters were great too! . Great read!
A short but sweet and enticing romance about how a simple misunderstanding and lack of communication can make things all right again in the world once these two soulmates met up. Call it Fate or Destiny but it seems true love did prevail in the end. Better late than never.
