I was intrigued by the title, Praying for America. The author was new to me, so I thought. After letting the book sit for a couple weeks. I just happen to have a conversation about another book laying across from it on my shelf and after talking to the other person I realized that I had listened to him on TBN.

Well, Praying for America, continued to stay on my shelf, until I started working on The National Day of Prayer event for my church and recording an episode for my podcast. That's when I picked it up. It was like Holy Spirit had been leading me to it and I wasn't listening just looking. Have that ever happened to you? Well I am so happy I picked it up an began reading. It was so interesting until I had to finish it.

Each chapter is packed with historical events that are evident in our culture today. It's written with words of encouragement to pray about different topics for America as they relate to religious freedom and our freedom of speech. Scriptures and a prayer are included in each chapter. It's an easy read in which the prayers can be implemented immediately.

Saints, it's a cry to all that it's time to pray and mobilize in Christ Jesus for the next generation before all is lost.

In less than 150 days, Americans will go to the polls and vote for President and members of Congress and for many state and local leaders. Now, more than ever, Americans need to be praying for God's will to be done. The United States is more divided than ever, and we need to pray for unity, wisdom and guidance not only for our politicians but for ourselves as well.

Dr. Robert Jeffress, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, has written a 40-day prayer guide, entitled "Praying for America", which includes inspiring stories from America's past, sample prayers and Scripture.  Each day covers a different topic of importance in the issues affecting our country during these perilous times.

Since the beginning of 2020, our nation has been experiencing turmoil and trials. We need prayer, individually and as a country. Dr. Jeffress' inspirational book is a reminder of our nation's past, the hopes and dreams of our early leaders. It is a reminder that we all have a responsibility for carrying out God's will by praying for our country and its leaders no matter what our personal opinions are about them.

In Praying for America, Robert Jeffress explored how to pray for America and how we as a nation we have forgotten God, and how we need to turn back to God. He explained how we have lost the love of loving God, ourselves, and we have stopped loving our neighbors. He revealed the truth in Psalms 9:17 that the nations that don’t believe and love God will perish. He explored the history of Abraham Lincoln and in 1863, he issued a National Day of Prayer and fasting after Fredericksburg during the Civil War. Lincoln believed that event was the result of America’s sins and how they have forgotten God. In the book, he explored the topics of: God’s will, religious freedom, our president and leaders, troops, law enforcement, debt problems, education, pure sexuality, fatherless children, our jobs, and much more. Each chapter contained a story from history, a prayer, and a scripture verse.

One of my favorite chapters was the chapter on the voiceless. Robert shared the story of Gianna and how in 1976 she was conceived by a teenage mother and her boyfriend. Her mother decided to have an abortion and he described the procedure that normally happens. Gianna ended up surviving at 29 weeks was born and weighed 2.75 pounds. The abortionist wasn’t there yet and the nurse had her transferred to the hospital. She did suffer a lack of oxygen and she developed cerebral palsy. She was placed in emergency foster care and Penny ended up raising her and praying over her life. She was able to learn to walk without the use of a walker or leg braces and she ran two marathons. He shared how in America we murder an average of three thousand babies and thousands more are killed with oral contraceptives. He encouraged readers to pray for our leaders and for us to become the voice for the voiceless and to reach out to pregnant mothers and help them.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to pray for America and that should be everyone in this nation. As we all know, we are still struggling with covid-19 and protests and injustice going on in our nation. I also liked how he dealt with the topic of corrupt cops and he made a point that we need to dealt with the on a case by case basic, same as if it was a bad pastor or parent. He also shared how we need to pray for them and to obey law enforcement and only to disobey them if they are causing us to do something sinful. I believe this book was written for a time as this to where we can all learn to humble ourselves and pray. I immensely loved how he covered a number of topics from our leaders to our own family and our community. I loved how he included countless stories in the book and he taught readers history and what we can take away from it and how to pray and change it for the future.

Dr. Robert Jeffress compiled 40 inspiring stories and prayers on the religious history of the United States.
Each chapter includes an inspiring story demonstrating the power and faith in the life of our nation, a prayer, and a relevant passage of Scripture. This is an encouraging read to see how God providentially brought the United States into existence and is still at work despite how much certain groups are trying to downplay the importance of our Christian heritage.

I am reviewing a copy of Praying for America 40 Inspiring Stories and Prayers for Our Nation through FaithWords and Netgalley:

In 179, Just fourteen years after America won independence from Britain, with the help of France—our relationship with France had deteriorated. The French Revolution had plunged that nation into godlessness. Churches were closed, crosses were forbidden, and Christian worship was outlawed. In 1798 though President Adams decided to trust in God’s Will and declared March.23.1798 a day of prayer and fasting. Just under a year later on March.06.1799 he declared another day of prayer.

In Praying for America we are reminded We have a responsibility as believers to stand up, push back against evil, and influence the spiritual and moral direction of our country.

Throughout American History, Christianity has had it challenges, and has often times even been attacked and it tells of the men and women who stood up for their beliefs.

Every chapter of this inspiring and uplifting book shares demonstrating faith throughout the history of our nation. Prayer for America is a needed book in the times we live in, times of anger and division.

I give Praying For America five out of five stars!

Praying for America by Dr. Robert Jeffress is a book for every Christian heartbroken by the path America is on socially, morally and spiritually. It is a powerful call to prayer at a time when so many of us are struggling for words.

The author outlines 40 areas of American life in need of prayer, guiding us in prayer for things like for truth to prevail, for national unity, for fair elections, for law enforcement, for pure sexuality, for Godly marriages, for the crisis of fatherless children, for the hurting, for those deceived by false religions, for discernment, for victory in spiritual warfare, and for revival.

Each section begins with a story that exemplifies the importance of prayer in that area, then goes to a call for prayer, a bit of history, and finally a prayer and biblical verse.

Dr. Jeffress is pastor of a mega church in Dallas, a noted theologian, a true believer and a voice of hope for Christians and American Christianity today. He is also a great writer.

This is a fearless and hope-filled book that clearly lays out the role Christians have been called to play in American society. It is a wakeup call, and it pulls no punches in pointing out the deceptions Satan is using to being down Christianity in America.

As Christians, we are called to pray, and Praying for America is a wonderful lesson in both the need for prayer and the power of prayer.

This devotional not only gives the reader ideas and topic on how to pray for America and the issues that are relevant in the country, but it also gives interesting historical figures from the past that some people may not know. This gives an entertaining aspect to the Christian books that are used as devotionals.
The book is easy to read, which each chapter only 3-4 pages long, along with a guided prayer at the end of each chapter for deeper thought and help in focusing. Even if you are not a fan of Christian books, the historical figures in it are detailed where most colleges and public schools will not cover in their classes.

Praying for America is a Christian living book by author Robert Jeffress.

I believe this book would be great for Christian homeschoolers as it is rich in the history of America. It features how the founding fathers brought prayer to the country and what Christians can do now.

I highly recommend this book as a prayer resource for anyone praying for America.

History

This is a well written book. It gives stories of our history. Each chapter has a special prayer for the topic of the chapter. I intend to use those prayers in my daily talk with God.

When I began reading this book, I had little hope for America. This certainly wasn't the nation of my childhood and early adulthood. When I finished the book, I felt a comfort that we can make this a better place to live and through prayer find our way and our nation's path.
