Years ago, after trying other methods, I convinced myself that I couldn’t memorize. Obviously that was a lie because I have the ten verses this devotional book suggests down pat! Using the accompanying app on my smart phone to keep track of my progress was simple and more compact than a stack of cards. Now I look forward to memorizing my own choice of precious scriptures. Thank you for this method, Jason Lancaster….and for the topical devotions that accompany the ten verses.

This was definitely helpful for establishing a pattern for memorizing, but it seems as though keeping up with this scheme will entail spending more and more time daily repeating verses. You learn a new verse every 5 days and repeat all the previous verses daily as well. As I've completed the 8 verses (actually it ended up being 11 verses, but 8 chunks) I can remember the verse, but still have trouble with the exact address.

If anyone else wanted to try this method I would definitely recommend using verses that are already meaningful to them, rather than the verses that Mr. Lancaster chose for us.

4.5 stars. Started out strong with this book and did well with memorizing and then life got full (as a teacher during the pandemic....) so I did not do as well with the memorizing as I would have liked. I will continue it though. Good book

I received an advanced copy as I'm known as a terrible memorizer ( only good at memorizing math and physics formulas, but not words). I have to admit being a bit skeptical, but right out of the chute I found this is a simple but very effective method to memorize Scripture, and the very first Scripture has helped me stay focused in several personal projects. In addition, all royalties go to support The Call, which is an organization in Arkansas to help foster children through fostering and adoption (www.thecallinarkansas.org) I've seen this in action with others, as Jason and his oldest daughter (currently in college) quoted I Peter (chapters 1-5) to our congregation. Jason opened with chapter 1, his daughter quoted chapters 2, 3, and 4, and then Jason finished with chapter 5... I was truly impressed that not only did they do this without a hitch, but they spoke it as I pictured how Peter spoke it to his scribe Silvanus. Looking over the "what others are saying" people from other realms are claiming the same impact as they have used it: a Northwestern Univ football player, a senior business development executive, a special education teacher, a high-school English teacher, a professor of ophthalmology of Illinois College of Medicine, a financial consultant, a homeschool mom, a church elder, and a pastoral resident, as well as others. I'm excited that I'm actually able to memorize Scripture and I'm actually retaining it, able to quote to others without having to look in the Bible to find it (actually I've learned the book, chaper, verse numbers along with the actual Scripture). There is an APP that you can use once you finish the book and it has an additional set of Scripture to read. I've included some other Scripture that I felt was very applicable to my life right now. Very highly recommend. Very happy to see others excited about Jason's book and there is a strong effort in our church to get this book into the hands of others... what a great Christmas present to give to others.

My name is Marcia Gautier and I am a Precepts Bible teacher who loves memorizing and reciting Scripture. I am reading Jason Lancaster's book mostly because I wanted to learn how this method works and to use it myself to better store the word in my heart and mind. It is amazingly easy and entirely repetition so that anyone and everyone can learn and memorize the word of God. It takes only a little time and effort but reaps such vast rewards. I believe that repetition is the mortar that holds memorization and recitation together.
I value the devotional lessons around each verse as they help me immensely to personalize and apply what God has said to my own life. And they are short, bite sized truths that I can easily digest. I have already learned a great deal and cannot wait to finish and re read this book.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to memorize and KEEP Scripture in their heart.

I highly recommend Hidden Within. I was silently going over my Scripture cards as I sat next to my dad’s bed in the nursing home. Daddy was drifting away from us—in and out of sleep. But his roommate began screaming for help. Help came, but he could not be consoled. It was torturous for all. Daddy became noticeably distressed because, as we soon found out, the man did this regularly. “Guard your heart” and “whatever you did for the least of these” were immediately relevant and actionable—be respectful, encourage, honor. Though it was a stressful time, the Lord's Word guided our thoughts and actions. His Word is always relevant. I was thankful I had these Scriptures in my heart. Dr. Lancaster’s book and examples work.

I did it! I used to memorize Scripture regularly, but had given it up as "I'm too old and can't remember anything anymore, let alone Scripture." Well, I am suprised and delighted that I was able to do this - the method is easy, simple and it really works! I've finished the book and the 10 verses we were encouraged to memorize in 40 days and have continued to memorize more and more Scripture. The daily devotionals helped to "cement" the verses in my mind as I worked through each day's assignment. And once again, the Word of God became a living, breathing power in my heart in a fresh new way. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a deeper daily walk with Jesus. Try it . . . you'll love it!

Jason Lancaster's book is a great read. More than that IT WORKS! I have tried several approaches to memorizing Scripture. Most were too complicated. 40-Day gives a dual benefit. Not only is it a simple method, but I learned a discipline that is useful in any area of memory work. Also I am making the Holy Spirit's job easier as He moves me toward Christ-likeness. That is, the Spirit can't "call to my remembrance" what I haven't memorized. So, join me. Be armed and ready to witness. Use the 40-day Scripture Memory Project. It will change your life (it did mine), and the new skill will last for a life-time.

I got this book because I knew and hear verses but couldn't tell you just where they were. After getting this book and being 70 years old I thought it was about time I learned. It wasn't till I also learned that I needed to know, understand His word and want it in my heart that I really got the meaning of knowing where scripture were. This is a wonderful book. Highly recommend it to everyone even if you think you are to old to remember scripture. Daily devotionals will help encourage to want to learn more about God's word.

Wow! I just read Hidden Within and I am amazed at how easy it is to memorize the Word. I have heard the majority of people who would like to "know" the Word but don't think they are able for what ever reason. After I memorized the first verse given, I noticed it comes to mind at the most needed times.
I am giving this book out for gifts, what better gift than the wisdom straight from God in our hearts.

IT WORKS! When it comes to memorization these days, I really had my doubts. In the past, when studying a book of the Bible, I would come across verses that hold such meaning for me that I wished I could remember them. Well, now I can!! Jason Lancaster has written a practical way to memorize scripture. It Just takes commitment and practice. He provides a simple solution to those of us who find It difficult to remember a verse and the source. The recommended scriptures follow one’s life and becoming a follower of Jesus. He provides versus to lean on in terms of growing in the spiritual walk. It works.

Jason Lancaster has uniquely written a book that addresses what many Christians lack; the ability to memorize scripture. His book is simple to read and the description on how to memorize scripture is simple and effective. The iPhone app is a big plus! I highly recommend his book as a must read!
