Healing Your Inner Critic: 5 Keys to Transforming Shame & Experiencing Inner Freedom

Rate this book
Does the self-critical voice in your mind seem to possess boundless energy? That’s because it does…

No matter how hard we fight the inner critic, it cannot be worn down and beaten through endurance or willpower. It cannot be defeated in a head-on battle. Many have fought this battle, and many have worn themselves out, mentally fatigued and emotionally exhausted, lying flat on the ground, defeated. Except, what if this defeat wasn’t final? What if it was the wrong battle altogether?

To heal the inner critic and gain freedom, you must dig a hole underground and enter through the basement cellar—not the front door. With this approach, the shame that binds you will be broken. Self-consciousness, frustration, and invalidation will be overpowered by self-love, self-confidence, and the freedom to be yourself. But, how does one go about accomplishing this?

It all begins with gaining an understanding of how the inner critic operates. Then, like a master strategist, you’ll see the situation clearly, finally breaking free of the cycle…

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

After reading over 1,000 samples (and a few full books that I felt were worth reading) I had all but given up on the shame and inner critic that I carry around after suffering betrayal trauma at the hands of my husband and then learning of my mother’s death less than an hour after his disclosure...shame became my constant companion. I now know that before I even try to work on my inner critic, I need to distinguish between my feelings and my thoughts. This may seem trivial to some but when you just went through the motions for so many years, this is a huge deal! I look forward to reading the rest of your books and thank you so very much for helping me in my healing journey!

Amazing book. I have been dealing with shame for a looooong time. This book really gave insight on to where it stems from, how to separate thoughts and feelings, and how to release the feeling of shame. There is a lot of useful information in this book. It is a quick and easy read but very insightful. If you suffer from feeling shame or have a self-critical inner person, this book is worth the read.

Very Helpful in Identifying Self Critisism

For me, this booklet (as well as the first one), was so helpful because it completely spoke of the exact self-criticizing dialog that repeats itself over and over in my mind. Being aware of those and exploring where those thoughts originated is helping me take steps toward healing. Thank you for sharing this valuable information!

As a therapist I will definitely be referring my clients to this booklet. It's written with simple, easy to understand language without psychotherapy jargon clogging it up. Will be reading more from Nic!

No Regrets!

Week the only regret I would have, if any, was in that I didn't read this 20 years ago. Nic S. was probably a child then, yes? Nevertheless, better late than never! Great read!

great quick read

Everything I needed to hear. Struggling in my marriage as a Enneagram 9 who can’t say what I want or express my feelings.

This book helped me embrace growing, feeling the feeling, trying new things, and most importantly becoming a human being rather than a human doing. Thank you Nick.
