Heather Balogh Rochfort is a five-time author and freelance writer based in western Colorado in the heart of the mountains. Her tiny travel blog snowballed into an award-winning writing career built on the outdoor adventures she holds close to her heart. You are more likely to find her sleeping in the dirt on the side of a mountain with her husband and daughter than in any city in America. Heather also has bylines in publications like The Washington Post, Men's Journal, Outside, Backpacker, and Afar magazine as as being The Weather Channel's on-air hiking expert. She has truly carved out her niche as an established adventure writer.
I feel like this was a good book to encourage those of us with the desire to get out in nature but very little experience or know-how to actually do it. I didn't really connect with a lot of their humor, and some sections made me more apprehensive to get out, not less, but overall a decent book to encourage the intimidated camping newbie. I especially appreciated the helpful information on camping with kids.
A beautifully illustrated, fun filled, beginners guide to camping that will inspire you to go buy a tent, pack up your gears and head to the outdoors. Heather and Will weave informative tips and tricks with wonderful and hilarious memories of their family trips. A fun and informative read-for beginners and the more seasoned outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Delivers exactly what it promises: “camping basics.” Can’t fault it there. The writing is unpalatable, full of corny or raunchy (but not funny) jokes. But the advice is good, so it’s worth a skim as you plan your next trip.
