Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

I thought a book called Sasuke’s Story would be about Sasuke. I enjoyed the book to be honest but it was not the book I thought I was going to read. I would have given this story a higher rating if the title was accurate.

All the love for my boy Sasuke ❤️

“Don’t you hate it, though? You’re working missions to protect the village and then… those people just say whatever they want about you.” “I understand how you feel. A relative of mine was unjustly smeared once, and I was furious about it. But when it came my turn, I suddenly didn’t care either way. It’s a strange thing. And…I don’t really feel like I’m working to protect the village. If I had to say what my purpose is, it’s helping your father.” Sasuke tousled Boruto’s blond hair. “So don’t worry about it.”

Sasuke set the palm of his hand down on her head. “Don’t look like that. I’d never let my comrades be killed. ”He had the sudden realization that he was now passing down to the children of the next generation words that had been given to him so long ago. It was a strange feeling, like he’d extended his own life somehow, like everything he’d worked to protect was coming full circle as he passed the torch he’d received as a child himself from the adults around him.

Overall, I like this, but the name is a bit of misnomer. I felt like we did not hear from Sasuke directly meaning his thoughts and feelings. We mostly saw Sasuke through the lens of other characters, but Sasuke is a man of a few words. For something that is called Sasuke's Story, I feel like we did not hear from him that much, but it is called Star Pupil. By calling something "Star Pupil," I guess it makes sense to hear from the pupil(s) directly.

Like father, like son.

Boruto is trying his hardest to get Sasuke's attention and to be acknowledged by him, which reminded Sasuke of someone else. It's actually really cool to see how Sasuke has developed. I honestly disliked Sasuke during the original anime and manga. He did not deserve Naruto's friendship, but I understood why Naruto was attached to him because of their shared traumas. In this book Sasuke is doing his work in the shadows for Naruto. He even says his reason for protecting the village is Naruto. Which I guess is recompense for all the trouble he caused him before, he doesn't want to continue besmirching the Hokage's name. (Sasuke's declaration about not letting his comrades die would definitely have shaken young Sasuke to his core. The boy who basically killed Karin and kept trying to kill the only friends he had.)

Sarada and Sasuke's relationship took a bit of a back seat to the main plot about a terrorist Idol singer, but what we got of it was very cute. They're both very independent people, but they are loving in their own way when together. Sarada's little joke about lipstick almost made me care about SasuSaku. I don't really ship anything in Naruto so the marriages don't really matter to me except that they have produced more content (I'll take the cash grab because I want to see Naruto and his new son Kawaki), but I can recognise that it was kinda cute.

I enjoyed the whole Idol- terrorism plot. I see where he got the inspiration. It is very clear. The "Purple Moon" group are from a place that wants independence and hates the technologically advanced Konoha that Naruto has created. A young girl gets dragged into it by the blood in her veins but she's got a different approach. She's going to sing ridiculous songs and use the cult of celebrity to destroy Konoha. It's not a bad plan, but there are a lot of holes.

When I first watched/read Boruto, I was disappointed at the technology in the series. Obviously it's because they're at peace and so that fosters innovation and creativity, but I just loved the original setting. This light novel actually made me appreciate it. Sasuke teaches the kids, a reluctant Boruto in particular, about how scientific understanding is at the basis of ninjutsu and can enhance it. It was an interesting take. I'll take it.

Also...Sasuke is scraping by on pretty privilege. If he wasn't canonically hot, he would be in more trouble.

I received an eARC courtesy of VIZ Media LLC & NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Am I a fan of Naruto? Um, yeah.

Was I surprised that this was not a graphic novel? Again, yes.

Was I thrilled with what I read? Definitely!

Fans of Naruto & Boruto are going to love this and is the perfect bridge book for readers reluctant to switch over from graphics to books. This light novel is full of familiar faces & was just a lot of fun to read.

For libraries: Are the Naruto graphics popular in your library? You should give this a shot & see how well it circs.

When people say 'I didn't get what I paid for', they mean this novel.

From the cover and title, it's clear that it is about Sasuke. But when you read it, it's more like Boruto's story (which I hated).

The two stars is for Sasuke and Sarada's cute and heartwarming father-daughter scenes (which is rare even in this novel).

giving this a five star out of principle because it’s sasuke and he’s my boy. it was short and read like an episode, and it was so refreshing to see how sasuke was being an attentive, reassuring sensei and father. and his interactions with sarada are so cute i love them so much. sasuke has really gone a long way from being an international war criminal hell bent on bloodlust and revenge to a sensei who imparts kakashi’s wisdoms and principles that he had hammered to the original team 7.

when sasuke was thinking about his own genin team, how short his time was with them and yet still their bond was rooted in him very deeply until now — i was so touched.

overall it’s an entertaining, nice book for anyone interested to see more of the new team seven’s dynamics, and how adult sasuke is faring as a father, a master, and a shadow hokage.

This was a fun quick read that felt exactly like watching an episode of Boruto. Sasuke wasn’t actually in it all that much considering the name of the book, but it he was still a large part of the story and the emotional turmoil Boruto was feeling. I read the description though, so I knew what to expect going into it. My biggest complaint was the translation. There were quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes throughout the English translation. It made it feel more like fanfiction because of all the typos. I read Sasuke Retsuden as well, and the English translation felt a lot cleaner for that LN. I still enjoyed the story and would definitely like to read more like it. I also incidentally ended up reading the bit about the concert on the metro while I was headed to a concert which made me smile.

I think this book showed the side of Sasuke who still trying to protect the village from the outside just like how he dreamt to be a member of Konoha’s Police Officers years ago. He also showed to be a pretty much capable teacher, well may be he’s has his own method to teach since he’s the type that grasp everything easily. He shows that he still can be a caring father in his own way. He’s not really good at putting it though. I also liked how the dynamics between Sasuke and Boruto formed.

“He couldn’t help remembering his own training back when he was still a genin, those long days alongside Naruto and Sakura under Kakashi’s tutelage. He’d only been attached to Team Seven briefly, and he’d wanted to become a ninja for different reasons from the rest of them. Even so, that brief period had laid deep roots inside of Sasuke, roots that held fast even now. With a wry smile, he realized he was, of all things, waxing nostalgic, which was very unlike him.”

Nice but it features little of Sasuke and much more about other characters. This is supposed a Sasuke story and a Naruto light novel however it's everything but a Sasuke story and it's more like a Boruto light novel which is kind of disappointing.

I always love reading these light novels about Sasuke because we get to see his softer side pop out here and there. Also the special shout out and recognition
to Itachi had my eyes watering a little 🥹 10/10

Over all enjoyable for what it is. Objectively speaking most of the Naruto lightnovels aren't going to win any litterature prices, that said, most of them do bring that nostalgia and humour the original series had making most of them worth a read for fans.

This one has a similar problem to Naruto’s story: Family Day in that it just isn’t good, which is a shame b/c the other Sasuke’s Story (Sunrise) is really good. (At least from what I remember)

I liked this book.

This follows Sasuke as he is given the task of leading Baruto's team. When they take on a mission with a pop star things don't seem to go the way Baruto and his team think it is to go.

I loved being in this world and these characters. Even though Sasuke was helping this team he still had his other obligations as well. But it was still interesting to see Sasuke try to be in a teaching role.

It was a fun read and really am looking forward to reading anymore that come out.
