Many of these poems reflect life in Orkney, where he spends part of every year. New Zealand, Glencoe winter climbing, Padua and Glasgow also feature, as do Jimmy Shand, Kandinsky and Val McDiarmid's tropical shirt. Like his widely enjoyed memoir At the Loch of the Green Corrie, these poems celebrate places of awakening, friends living and dead, and embrace life lived later in the day.

It is a poetry of celebration, of loss honoured, and above all of gratitude.

Andrew Greig is a Scottish writer who grew up in Anstruther, Fife. He studied philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and is a former Glasgow University Writing Fellow and Scottish Arts Council Scottish/Canadian Exchange Fellow. He lives in Orkney and Edinburgh and is married to author Lesley Glaister.

Eine Sammlung mit Gedichten des schottischen Schriftstellers, Poeten, begeistertem Golfspieler und Gelegenheitsmusiker Andrew Greig. Dieses Mal verlässt er seine Heimat und hat mich mit nach Neuseeland und Italien genommen. Für mich war das ungewohnt, denn die auch die meisten seiner Bücher spielen in Schottland und es fällt mir schwer, ihn mir irgendwo anders vorzustellen.

Aber egal, wo er gerade ist: seine Gedichte bringen es für mich immer auf den Punkt. Er schreibt über Kleinigkeiten: über Freunde, über seinen Hund, seine beiden Heimatorte Edinburgh und Orkney. Die Gedichte, die er seine Frau gewidmet hat, fand ich ganz besonders. "You're the one I want to die before" ist eine einmalige Liebeserklärung ;)

Sicherlich ist die Poesie von Andrew Greig nichts für jeden. Manchmal kam mir das Buch mehr vor wie eine Sammlung von Zitaten. Aber ich erkenne vieles von ihm wieder, was ihn für mich ausmacht.

Like all Andrew Grieg's poetry, I spread the reading of by re-reading those of especial note before I move on. This had many such, and I shall return to begin again. Of especial delight was 'The day of the double duvet' - brought back memories of my youngest son, age ~5, climbing inside his single one to accomplish the task.
