She'll travel to Mars to become a savage alien's mate, and in exchange for her sacrifice, all her family's debt will be forgiven. She prays she'll find some semblance of happiness on Mars and hopes her future husband treats her with kindness. But she's stunned to discover the muscle-bound blue alien she's been matched with is Prince Vaath, a fearsome alien who once led a deadly battle against Earth. How can she willingly give herself to an alien who killed so many of her people?

Prince Vaath is aware many of his followers are hesitant to mate with humans, but after losing most of their females, it's necessary that they claim as many human females as possible in order to procreate and strengthen their numbers. He's shocked by the possessiveness he feels when he first looks upon golden-haired Esmay, and long-buried instincts soon rise to the surface as he claims his new princess time and time again. He knows she's afraid of him and believes him to be a savage, but he can't get enough of the little human who incites his desires, and he is determined to one day win her heart. But dark forces are gathering, and it will take all his power to keep Esmay safe from harm.

Her parents are facing debtor's prison, so she does what she hoped to never do and signs to be a mail order bride for one of the aliens who conquered earth.

Wanted way more sizzle and spark between the MCs and for some reason the plot just didn't pull me in like I thought it would. Story needed to be more developed.

I don’t want to come across as rude but I sort of judged this book by the cover, but I was most pleasantly surprised upon reading this. The characters were very well written, as well as the supporting cast. The author’s writing makes the story flow very nicely, I passed a few enjoyable hours reading this.

The Martians have taken over the earth, Esmay’s parents are in debt so to save them from prison she signs up to be a bride to a martain, he turns out to be a royal prince.

Honestly, I’ve read better, more well developed alien-takes-a-human-bride stories. This one stayed pretty superficial. Sorry.

I don't really know what to rate this because it was not good but it also wasn't bad. Just very in the middle and I found myself wanting more from it. When I read these kinds of books (specifically very smutty romance) I prefer for it to be in first person dual perspective, I just feel like you get to know the characters a little more. I wasn't really connected to any of the characters in this book and the spice scenes were mid at best. I also wanted there to be a little bit more of world building. The world building we did get was really good and interesting. I feel like these alien romance novels always have really good world building but they do not really seem to do a lot with it.

*spoilers* Esmay tries to save her family from financial ruin and imprisonment. Volunteering to be an aliens mail order bride is the only thing she can think of to earn her family money. Meeting Prince Vaath, who has killed many humans was not what she expected. While leering of humans, Prince Vaath knows he must have this female as his own. But a resistance may have other plans! I love how dedicated and possessive he is of Esmay.

So formulaic that it could almost have been written by AI. She's young and virginal and gasps when he touches her hand and pretends she doesn't want to have sex with him. He makes a bunch of nonsense similes about her beauty that could have been copy and pasted. The dialogue is clunky, the characters are flat, and the premise is poorly executed.

DNF.

If i ever met an alien with extended horns that curved all the way down his back, I think I might turn to petrified stone. The story was like any average alien romance, it was insta-love and the characters were pretty cardboard following a template. There was no original personality to them and don't even get me started with their chemistry.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this outstanding Sci-Fi mail-order bride alien romance with an “enemies to lovers” undertone & it can be read as a standalone. I found the plot to be well-paced with good world building & fascinating to read with excellent, vivid descriptions of the Martian cultures & technologies. The characters are well-developed with individual personalities & portray realistic emotional feelings according to the current situation they find themselves in. There is good support from the secondary characters.
There is: a young woman (Esmay) decides to become a mail-order bride in order to save her parents & siblings only to discover she is matched to a deadly blue-skinned warrior (Prince Vaarth) who led the battle against earth & the cause of her problems in the meanwhile Prince Vaarth is determined to win her heart but there is trouble on the horizon, humans, aliens, alien fertility issues, anti-human brides resistance/terrorists, action, adventure, drama, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, deceit, betrayal, hatred, enemies, danger, threats, attacks, violence, conflict, discovery, distrust, emotional turmoil, friendship, loyalty, steamy scenes, contentment, love & a well-deserved satisfying conclusion. I would recommend this Sci-Fi alien romance & look forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation.

It was sweet.

Too sweet for a series with the word ‘savage’ in the title. I liked the world building. I liked the levelheadedness of all the characters. I liked the storyline. But it lacked heat. It was all too pat a story. Everything was predictable.

I expected more passion and (maybe I’m jaded) definitely more dirty naughtiness. Again, the word ‘savage’ in the title implied as much. Still, I am looking forward to the next book with Rem and I will read more of this authors works, but now I know what to expect. A tame sci-fi mildly predictable romance with average world building.

Enjoy.

This novel was well written and edited, with few if any typos that I caught in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building was excellent in this novel. I must admit, when I thought that the alien hero was going to be a Martian from Mars, I almost didn't read the novel, even though I really like this author. I was so relieved that the aliens were not originally from Mars but simply terraformed it and adjusted the gravity when their own home world died. Therefore, I was able to relax and enjoy the story. Apparently, I can believe in interspecies fertility without issue in a sci-fi romance, but aliens from Mars is too unscientific for me to be able to let go and enjoy! Funny, huh? The characterization of these two characters was excellent, with both of them being vibrant, sympathetic individuals. The development of the romantic relationship was fairly natural and organic, considering everything that was going on in the plot. The plot and pacing was exciting, with me rapidly turning the pages wanting to know what would happen next with the anti-human bride terrorists. There was some angst on the heroine's part about her attraction to and growing affection for the hero, which was totally understandable with how the Martians were abusing their Earthling subjects. The stakes were high throughout the novel too, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel uses the Mail Order Bride trope and the Enemies to Lovers trope. The world building, plot, and pacing rated four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship rated four stars. That means that the combined score for this novel was four stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this story. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sci-fi romance novels with alien heroes. I may buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

Let's face it: what woman would willingly marry an alien?
Esmay found herself in a desperate situation.
Her parents were deep in debt, despite working hard multiple shifts. So when she overheard their conversation in the kitchen that they might go to prison (and her father suggested they get a divorce so he could take care of the debt alone, while his wife and Esmay would work to take care of the 9-year-old twins), Esmay made the decision.
Being selected as a mate, the women would not only receive a large sum of money, but also any debt the family owed would be forgiven.
She went of her own free will to the Martian Affairs building and signed up for the Alien Mail Bride program.
Before long she was selected and transported to Mars.

She didn't know which alien had been chosen for her to be mate.
And only when she arrives there, Esmay learns that her future husband is Prince Vaath, the warrior responsible for the invasion of Earth and for killing many humans, twenty years ago.

Unlike his father, Prince Vaath welcomed the union between Martians and human women. As the king's sole heir, he had big plans for changes so that the people could be happy on the planet.
As the female were poisoned by the water by the Xieandans, the men of Mars were still suspicious of the union of a couple from different planets.
In addition, there was an anti-Earthers rebel group that had been attacking the mix couples.

Both Esmay and Vaath would need to get to know each other as they were bound by marriage.
There was a physical attraction, but mistrust and fear (on her part) made it difficult for the couple to harmonize in the first few days.

With the help of Jav - Vaath's friend and a genetically enhanced warrior of the Vash'arr Order - Vaath manages to discover the rebels' cell and challenges them in Voogg (arena fight to the death).

Yes. The drakks are coming! Esmay is a human female. She kind of has like a sick sense of what people are feeling and feels peoples goodness or evil. She knew something was wrong with her parents whispering in the middle of the night. Taxes and jail. The threat of being a present. So she takes it upon herself to leave her family to sign up as a mail order bride for the Martians. Excuse me, Marttiaxoxalians. They are in alien species of various color with different to dial growth horns on her head. It just so happened that her mail order husband is the Prince Vaath, warrior. And of course it seems like the history of how war began between this new alien species that are compatible with as humans was wrong. The problem is there is always some type of threat focused on Esmay. I don’t get me wrong the prince is also in with the mishaps and I do exaggerate on the light word of mishaps that puts Esmay in danger. Along with those who have a mail order bride. There is a villain among us. The drafts or a group who are against the mAting and procreations that will taint the blood of the Marttiaxoxalians. Prince Vaath Will stop at nothing to keep his mate safe. No cliffhanger. Just a new soldier will needs a mater... hopefully

What a total inspired read filled with love, traitors and murder……
Esmay had left her parents and her sisters and had put herself up as a mail order bride to save her parents having to go to prison, the girls would have been put into a state home until their debt had been paid off, it was so unfair as they worked so hard and it was the constant raising of taxes that had caused this situation to arise.
When she reached her new home on Mars the man that had come to meet her was over seven foot tall and had hors and was muscular, they are different from each other as “Chalk and Cheese” and yet their mating was professed to be the start of great change between both of their people and their worlds.
This story is filled with action, killing and traitors far closer to home that anyone could ever have expected and as they nearly succeed in killing both Esme and Vaath it becomes apparent hat he needs to step up to the plate and protect his mate and his people and also the people of earth.
It would appear that the prophecy the holy man spoke of may come to pass?

I had to say this book was quite okay in my list though I still miss a bit of spark and smuttiness; I guessed my smuttiness standard was quite high. So, here're few things that I like from the book (1) the plot flow was well completed with thorough character building, both MCs and supporting one (2) the plot not only involving the romance between MCs but also politics and what actually happened in this story's universe. I had to say it was quite intense (3) I just simply liked the idea of one mating-for-life idea. It's a romantic concept, don't you think?!

On the contrary, there were also a few things amiss in the story (1) I was not buying into this mail-order-bride-turned-love-in-the-1st-sight thing. I mean I totally get both concepts, separately; but not combined. I mean really though? Those concepts plus mating for life? Nope, didn't feel right, but I still gave it a go (2) Didn't get the chemistry/spark between MCs. I just didn't.

Virgin h, (not sure on H, assumed not virgin)
No contraception
Mail-order bride, mating for life
Ordinary human h, alien prince H
Politics and struggle was 60% of the book
HEA, No drama/angst
No OW/OM
Overall score: 3 interspecies love stars

Author Sue Mercury has her craft down pat. She is consistent in what she writes. Her books are like comfort food. I know what I’m going to get—a huge protective alien paired with a young, inexperienced heroine forced by circumstances to marry him.

Royal Alien Mate follows that formula. Prices and taxes are high on Earth, and to get the money to save her parents from debtors’ prison, Esmay agrees to become a mail order bride to a “Martian,” i.e. a Marttiaxoxalian whose king conquered Earth and terraformed and settled on neighboring Mars.

But Esmay doesn’t get any old Martian, but the ruler’s son, Prince Vaath. Although he’s immediately attracted to her, she has reservations. Vaath is kind to Esmay, but what about the rest of her people? Earth has been suffering under draconian Martian rule. And there’s a radical group of Martians who oppose the mail order bride program and will go to any lengths to stop it.

I really appreciated how much Vaath did care for Esmay, and I liked her quiet strength. The romance was believable and well-paced, as was the overall story. The world-building was especially well done with just the right amount of description to paint a vivid picture of an alien world without overloading the story with too much detail.

If you want a quick, steamy, romantic sci-fi romance read, snap this one up. 4.5 stars.

“Royal Alien Mate” is the first story in this new series “Savage Martians” and a wonderful start to a fantastic series! The story grabs your imagination and keeps you turning pages from page one which is filled with suspense, thrilling action and mesmerizing characters.
Esmay signs up to be a mail order bride to save her family from debtors prison. She learns that her mate is Prince Vaath, a fearsome warrior who once led a deadly battle against Earth. How can she live with someone who has killed so many humans? Can she expect him to be sweet and caring after what he has done? Prince Vaath knows many of his warriors are reluctant to take a human as a mate but they have lost most of their females and it’s necessary that they claim human females, in order to procreate and strengthen their numbers. When, he meets Esmay, the chemistry between them is electric and he develops feelings for this sweet human.
The story is a beautiful, exciting, erotic love story with plenty of surprises and twists and turns. Thank you, Sue Mercury.

This is an enjoyable alien story.

Esmay is brave enough to become a bride to save her famiily. Vaath is compassionate/understanding enough to take a human bride to help ease relations. Vaath and Esmay did not expect to have such feelings for each other. But there is trouble on beautiful terraformed Mars and Esmay and Vaath are at the very epicenter, but loyal guards/friends are there to lend a hand.

The characters are given some fleshing out and Esmay is given most background/personality. The headbutting aliens are fairly unique with their fighting styles and physical attributes. As with all wars, each side has a different version to the conflict and with the Big Bad being who he is - I am still not sure exactly who's version of the conquest to believe.

Conclusion - entertaining story with a touch of family drama, a dose of intrigue/danger, and a happy epilogue that give the story that perfect conclusion.

Sue has nailed it again. I just love her books, she does an absolutely wonderful job with story lines and her characters are lovely . I loved this Princes character, he definately wasnt like his father whats so ever. He has morals and code like his Grandfather.

Esmay overheard her parents talking one late night, and decided that she was going to sign up to be a Martians Bride. So stealing away that night she leaves a note, and signs up. A few hours later she is on the ship destined to Mars to meet her husband to be. One look at the man and Esmay finds herself attracted to him... His name.... Vaath. With this blue alien she speaks her mind, then she discovers who he truely is. But all is not good on Mars they have humans rebelling against them, trying to kill them, but theres a twist.....

im not going to spoil to much more but this is a realy good book and its a must read.....so looking forward to the next one..

In order to pay off her parents debts and prevent their going to prison, Esmay signs up to be an alien mail order bride on Mars. By accepting one of the savage alien as her mate, her family's debt will be wiped out. All she hopes for now is that her alien mate will be kind.

Esmay is alarmed to find that she has been matched with Prince Vaath, a powerful warrior who battled against Earth. And yet, he acts so differently with her, protective and desiring her constantly. He is aware she fears him, but all he wants is to win her love. Can he show her that she never has to fear him? That his own heart already belongs to her?

I enjoyed this book, even though this theme is very repetitive lately. Prince Vaath’s followers have lost most of their females, and whether they want to or not, they need to claim human females as their mates. But danger is coming, and they will have to keep their females safe. Grab your copy of this start to a new series.

Wow! Just wow! I've just started reading scifi romance again, and I'm loving it. This is a very intriguing book. Lots of actions, lots of imaginative details, and plenty of love! I loved all the descriptions of Martian culture, the explanations of their society, the technology they possess. Wonderfully vivid! Esmay is exceedingly well-written - you feel her despair at her parents plight, her wonder of the new world she finds herself in, and her confusion over her growing feeling for her new mate. Prince Vaath is a fascinating character. He tries so hard to understand his delicate, beautiful mate. And the way he plans for the future, for when he'll be King is wonderfully expressed. I loved reading this book, and I'm very much looking forward to the next story in this series!

🌟🌟🌟✨ 3.5/5
