Eva Thompson has just started her freshman year of college, and things are looking up.
Then, of course, she barrels into Benedict (emphasis on dick) Chauncer on her first day and opens her snarky mouth without knowing just who he is.
But she soon finds out Benedict is the king of this school, and no one talks back to the king.
Now Eva’s trapped between a rock and a hard place, in more ways than one, and if she wants to remain at this university (that Benedict’s parents own), and if she wants her parents to keep their jobs at the school library (so they aren’t homeless), she’ll have to submit to Benedict’s every command (AKA- be his slave).
But Benedict is about to learn that Eva isn’t a pushover, no matter what the stakes are.
A gorgeous little read. Not my usual erotica. However this book and its characters grow on you. Eva and Benedict. Lovers at first sight but with everything against them. A beautiful little plot. Excellent character development. Some delicious sex. A really hot wet read. Five shooting stars.
Is it a sick joke? What freaking hea could happen after this blurb? Does Becca hate women? Is it a revenge book? Why such plots are even read by female readers?!
This is literally one of the most ridiculous, senseless, laughable books I have ever read. I have signed up for Goodreads just to leave this review and warn people not to waste even one minute on this book, if you can even call it that. Trust me, life is too short for this. I wish someone warned me.
I am not joking, my 5-year old cousin would have written a better, more coherent plot.
I don't even know where to start. Characters are so flat, their dialogue so plastic that the cartoon Dora the Explorer is like Shakespeare to this. At some point the Hero has sex with another woman in front if the Heroine. The Heroine did not give her consent for that mind you. And yet, she finds his sweaty abs attractive while he is in bed, mocking her shock at having to watch him with another woman. The scene was so ridiculous I had to laugh out loud while reading it. And it wasn't written in a funny way.
Who is writing this stuff?? Dear author please, whoever you are, please find something else. Maybe your local Starbucks is looking to hire people, or maybe McDonald's. Those are really good jobs. Anything is more dignified than this s...t you wrote. Please spare us and find another career!!
I really didn't want this book to end. From the first line to the last it just sucked you in and didn't let go until the last word. We are introduced to the main people in the book and there character. Like Benedict is a playboy who thinks the world is beneath him because he is Rich.I thought I was going to hate Benedict but he turned out to be a book boyfriend material. And Eva is a feisty girl who had the opposite life and had to work for everything she has and is what every college girl should be. Benedict was used to girls falling all over him so when the little not so pretty but pretty girl called him out he decided he wanted a challenge. Found some info out about her to make her bend to his will but Eva wasn't having it. Along the way they had some back and forth events, some revenge some excitement, laughs and even some tears but over all they end up falling for each other and ultimately make it happily ever after ending. I really loved this book so to get an earlier copy was an honor. This book hooked me from the beginning. Sometimes I'm not going to lie the main girl can be a little annoying at times. but not in this book it flowed perfectly that by the time I was finished I forgot where I was. She was relatable and you can see yourself in her and that is rare to find in a book. Benedict had you look over at your man like why he can't be more like that 😂. Overall I would recommend this book to many people and I can't wait for more. I hope we get a part 2 to this I would love to see the wedding and what his parents think of her.
The book is told from dual points of view but the author also repeats the same scene with each character's pov, which I found repetitive and unnecessary.
Benedict🐺Chauncer is the BDOC. He is from a wealthy family with monetary ties to the college. Eva💃 is the unruly, poor, messy but brilliant girl on a scholarship. Eva💃 calls out Benedict for what he is on their first day of class. She doesn't know he's the Beast, and the heir.
Eva💃 also has a job at a ☕coffee shop which students frequent. Benedict🐺 wants to humble her for taking him to task in public, so he coerces her into a date with him. If she refuses, Eva💃 loses her scholarship. His idea is to embarrass her back by being with another girl when Eva💃 arrives for her date. So childish.....
ARC Received from the Author 📚. I also got this book with KU.
It's a college romance. What can i say?! Not my usual read. I thought it was going to be sci-fi. Maybe it is, because No guy🐺 in college was ever this confident or ever this big of a player.
I received an ARC copy of this book. It was my first read from this author and I was quite impressed with her writing style. I started out absolutely hating Benedict Chauncer and his pompous behavior toward the entirety of the student body at the University both he and Eva Thompson attended. He never quite redeemed himself completely in my eyes, but he definitely came a long way from The Beast of Chauncer Hall that he once was prior to Eva. I loved Eva's roommate, Amy. She seemed like a kind hearted, no BS type of girl who would be fun to hang out with. I felt a little like Benedict was similar to the character Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl in the way he carried himself and acted like his name could explain everything, including using it as both an excuse for his behavior as well as a bargaining chip to get what he wanted. I loved Eva's spitfire nature and felt it probably had a lot to do with what she endured growing up in regard to her brother and her parents' reaction to that. Overall, a fun enemies to lovers read.
Dnf 26% I read the first chapter and knew that this would be nonsense but I still skimmed for a bit to see if it would get marginally better. It did not. First, the formatting is weird. Second, both characters are annoying with zero redeemable qualities that can be detected within the first few chapters. Benedict is an ass who thinks he can essentially blackmail girls into having sex with him in addition to the other “bimbos” he gets on a regular basis due to “owning” the school. Then there’s Eva who has the audacity to walk into a class 40 minutes late when typical college classes are either 50-75 minutes depending on credit hours and frequency throughout the week. I get being a couple minutes late on the first day at a new school if you get lost, but 40 is unacceptable and pointless.
From what I did see, the book is not worth the hour or two it would take to read and do not recommend
Once you get passed the early chapters where you want to smack Benedict and Eva upside the head a few hundred times, the story gets good. Author Becca Bell includes some very real-life scenarios, including some that many women are sensitive to, but she does it tactfully.
I reviewed an advanced copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’ve read so many reviews where the book is slammed for reading like a Wattpad story.
Now, I gotta admit…I’ve never read any Wattpad…too old to bother with that circle of literary hell. Tho, one of my kids is wildly popular on AO3 for their JoJo’s shipping. That I understand wtf that means proves I’m not so fucking ancient after all.
But I digress ;)
I now know what Wattpad fic must read like cuz I’ve never understood that level of wtf until now.
This is the 1st book I have read by Becca and I really enjoyed the storyline and characters. You get the POV from each Eva and Benedict. On the 1st day of college for Eva she is running 45 minutes late for class and is spoken down by the professor in class and a class mate gives her a hard time. After class Eva gives it to him only to find out later it was The Beast! Eva knows she is going to pay some how and waits to see what he’ll do. Benedict’s family is very wealthy and the dorm, Chauncey Hall he lives in has his Family name and years ago he was deeply hurt by a woman he loved so ever since he has become the campus womanizer, he is with them once and done! Eva’s family does not have a lot and her parents work in the library and she is on a scholarship so once Benedict finds out he puts her in his cage to use how he sees fit. I loved how Eva gives it back to Benedict just as much as he pulls her out of her shell. At one point their relationship becomes more but Eva being a stubborn woman makes a deal with the devil and almost pays for it. Benedict knows in his heart that Eva belongs with him so when she is with another man he is very jealous but carefully waits to use his power for the good of others. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
What Happens When a Beast Plays With a Firecracker? FIREWORKS!!!
This fun read is full of highs and lows as the school bad boy, Benedict Chauncer, decides to have his own brand of fun with a woman who appears to be a meek little wallflower. Yeah, he chose the wrong girl when he decided to pick on Eva Thompson. She may be diminutive and fairly quiet, but she's a fiesty fire brand who takes nobody's cr@p.
Benedict is easy to hate: arrogant, narcissistic, a bully and a man-whore. He really doesn't display any attributes worth writing home about. Eva's definitely not in Benedict's social orbit. She's not the beauty queen type, doesn't care much for make up or dressing up, and has a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor. Not really Junior League material there.
When Benedict's game with Eva gets no love, he's entered new territory, and he's intrigued by the little firecracker. That's when the sparks begin to fly. This becomes more than just a silly game, and the fireworks show begins...
This story has very enjoyable characters, a plot line that flows nicely with a good range of emotions, and lots of great of great fun. Basically, it's a great read.
Benjamin is the alpha at school. His father is the Dean, he lives in a dorm that has his last name and even the teachers don’t dare to cross him. He is arrogant, self serving and goes out of his way to hurt those around him. I spent a good 70% of this book hating him.
Eva is late for her first class of the semester and when Benjamin starts belittling her she stands up for herself. She didn’t know who he was but soon finds out. Eva is a little scattered at times. She got into the school on a scholarship and both her parents work in the library. So Benjamin has the perfect chips to play to cage the only person who’s ever stood up to him. When Eva flips the roles we get to see just who tames who.
This is not a typical HEA story. I would post a small warning that there is a scene that may trigger a few people about rape.
I received an advanced copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
Eva has just started her freshman year at collage and it isn't going so well. Eva wakes up late to her first class and then she has this pompous ass annoying her. Eva is the type to not back down. So when class lets out she confronts this oh high oh mighty jerk. Benedict believes himself to king of well everything since his father is the dean after all. Until a spit fire brunette shows up to class 45 minutes late. Then she has the balls to bitch him out in the hall wall after class was over. So Benedict decided to play a game with Eva for her out burst in the hall. Eva can't believe that Benedict was blackmailing her and she felt trapped until she figures that she would play his game right back at him. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the storyline and plot. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of
Benedict starts out being one of those heroes that you love to hate and that you hope gets theirs by the end of the book. Only Ms. Bell fixed it to where the comeuppance you start hoping that he receives in the beginning is not the result that you are looking for by the end. Eva is a small spitfire who inadvertently takes on the "Beast of Chauncer Hall" and gets blackmailed into a date with him and boy, does the snarkiness fly. Add in a few misunderstandings, dysfunctional families, and another bad boy and you will have to read to find out if Benedict and Eva can take a bad beginning and turn it into a HEA. I also really enjoyed Eva's roommate Amy and I hope she gets her own story.
I received an ARC copy of this book and in turn, I am leaving my honest and freely given opinion.
Before I get into a review of this I thought it’d be fair to say that this book does have a rape scene and I know that people could be triggered by this.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written and well paced out. Wasn’t so sure at the start as Benedict seemed to use his privilege and father’s position to his advantage but I warmed up to him. The POV changed from Eva to Benedict with some of the chapters being repeated as the other character.
In the first instance I would have thought it would have a sci-fi feel due to the name but I understand the meaning behind it not too far into it.
This is the first book by this author that I've read. Eva wakes up and is going to be late for her first class of college and quickly gets ready, running into the class just as the prof is about to start class. She gets called out in front of everyone. completely embarrassing her in the process. There's a jerk in the class who thinks his $#it doesn't stink, she tells him off in front of a bunch of other students, little does she know exactly who she just waged war with. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, you should give it a shot too. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Eva feels the weight of the world on her shoulder and doesn't realize she almost throws it all into chaos when she runs into him, Benedict, not knowing who he is, and lets her mouth get carried away. But Benedict will realize the woman is not the "roll over and cower" type. There's more to her than that and he's about to learn how much.
Becca Bell does an excellent job putting us there, our freshman year of college and realizing you may have just ruined not only your life but your parents' as well. Grab this and join us in feeling the feels.
DNF at 84%—I know I know I was sooo close so why couldn’t I finish this?!? It was FUCKING painful that’s why—I just couldn’t anymore! Insta-love at its finest with no communication really between the characters except small amounts of hate back and forth they know nothing about each other...I just didn’t get it..why do they love each other...I have no clue they slur hate at each other and had a five second fuck then bam—love haha 🤷🏻♀️ I honestly didn’t like any character in this book... hated them all...
When Eva shows up 45 minutes late to her first college class, she immediately gets on the wrong side of the campus Beast. Things go downhill quickly for her. It's an endearing story of middle class girl standing up to super rich, entitled bad boy. After a few plot twists, things work out in the end. Well written with a not-so-subtle message that women NEVER owe men sexual favors. I look forward to reading Becca's next book.
I liked the concept of this book and even the characters first interactions were drama ridden with great potential for a challenging tale. But then it all went down hill. I'm not sure how she fell in love with him in all of 5 minutes when he literally was nothing but mean to her. She slept with him in a heartbeat, against his reputation and her better judgement. Then the ridiculous lack of communication and jealousy game that ensued was just downright cringeworthy.
I read the first and second chapter of the book in an email and got hooked. Thankfully I got an opportunity to be a BETA reader for Becca Bell!
At first I didn't like Benny because he pretty much was a d**k. After meeting Eva he changed. It was an entitled rich boy meets his match kind of thing with a hint of revenge. Overall, it was a good book. I can't wait to read more of Becca Bells books!
This is an incredibly HOT, sexy, modern take on Beauty and the Beast. At first, I really couldn’t stand the thoroughly detestable “Beast,” but as the novel progressed, he grew on me just as he did our heroine. In fact, he actually turns out to be quite the hero . . .
I had such high hopes at the start of the book. Then it fell flat. Everything happened at light speed. Maybe a month? It was like everything was rushed to fit in the story. Could have been good if it was spread out but I found myself not wanting to finish reading.
Loved it !! So cute and it made me laugh and cry and get seriously pissed off ! The only thing I would change is I wish I was longer I couldn’t get enough ! Especially of Benedict 🤤! Worth the read ! Can’t wait to read more from this author !
