The best things in life are free… Secrets kept for years are revealed, but what will Jill do now she knows the truth? And where have all the penguins gone? …so why aren't custard creams?
One might think that after 30 books in this series, it might be relative and boring. While certainly predictable on many levels, Abbott continues to come up with multiple schemes to keep interest going. Multiple cases, witch intrigue and puns worthy of your dad all combine like a lovely custard cream.
There's a very major, very serious problem with a part of this book. Jill's grandmother says that's she's so powerful the retrievers can't touch her.
This is basically as low as she can get. Her grandmother has abused her magical abilities over and over and is now basically bragging that she can do whatever she wants and get away with it. This is the attitude of corrupt politicians and others of that ilk.
It's an unforgivable position to take and is against almost everything most people believe as far as proper behavior. It's arrogance on a massive scale. This stands out very strongly when weighted against Jill's attempt to solve crimes and help people as much as she can. (Yes, she gets paid for it but her immediate inclination is to help others by solving their crimes and problems. She also tries to tow the line about things a sup is supposed to do and not do.)
There are missing parents, missing penguin toys, a disco dancing dog, a missing guy, a task for the Queen of Dandelions, a synchronized flying troupe, ghost traffiking, an evil someone that is dead (or maybe not dead?), WOW, a ghost kidnapper, a special television show that is to be done and her grandma breaks yet another rule about the use of magical creatures.
A fairly good story except for Jill's criminal grandmother.
entertaining paranormal urban fantasy/cozy mystery series
This is an entertaining paranormal urban fantasy/cozy mystery series. If I can cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Jill Gooder Maxwell is a witch. She also happens to be a private investigator in the human world. She splits her time between the human world in the supernatural world where her family or at least her biological family lives. Her adopted sister lives in the human world with her husband and kids and Jill was married to a human place detective. Jill investigates crimes of all types in human world and also investigates crimes in the paranormal world. She must cautiously straddle the line and not let her magic be seen by the human or she could be in trouble and forced to go back to the paranormal world and remain without her husband and adopted family. The series is a fun and entertaining series and get serious at times but also has a bit of Snark and wet to it as Jill talks to the reader on occasion and has a unique sense of humor that her family and friends do not get half the time. There’s a very entertaining and fun to read series. Check it out
Absolutely wonderful characters that interact with each other . Fabulous plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
I really enjoyed this book with its usual mysteries and zaniness. It has all the usual suspects and it was fun getting introduced to some new paranormals. It ended on a real cliffhanger so I can’t wait to read the next book.
Abbott Abbess #39 Witch PI #33 Another great yarn in the series, with a surprise reveal in the closing scenes, and many open threads lingering in the background. Chasing down #34 soon!
And here comes the wrench in Jill's life, Watch out! Whew, just missed. Can't wait for the upcoming books revealing this next Wow in her life. Always a fun and quirky read. Love the characters and look forward to all their antics as the books progress.
I really enjoyed this book just like all the other 32 I have completed. It's like an addiction. Once you have read a few of these books, it's like you just have to move onto the next to see what is going to happen. I do have to say that Jill works on a lot of cased that she never gets paid for, but then she does get favors from a lot that she helps. I just wish she could stand up to her Grandmother better since she is taken advantage of by her so much. I do love how Jill and Jack are getting along so well since they got married. Such a surprise to find out that Jill has a brother, and can't wait to see how that plays out.
Jill doesn't seem to get in as much trouble with this episode yet still manages to get a few problems solved. Her love of family shows through as she spends more time with her sister as well as the kids. New creatures are revealed and one heck of a plot twist at the end, CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!
She is looking for a couple who disappeared a year ago, some stolen toy penguins and ghosts who have gone missing. Not to mention, helping the Dandelion fairies.
Winky's aunt comes to visit, and she's a real pill.
So, Jill helped to save the bells plus a bunch more exciting things took place and a surprise ending is coming that q I can't wait to see. Hurry up next book!
