Cruising for Murder #1

Death In A Deck Chair

Rate this book

Piper Monroe can’t decide which is worse—getting dumped at the altar by her louse of a fiancé, or finding out he left her for her own cousin Tammi. Humiliated and temporarily homeless, Piper goes on the cruise that was supposed to be her honeymoon. Unfortunately, it’s only after she sets sail that Piper discovers her ex-fiancé and Tammi are on board as well.

She may be on her own personal nightmare of a vacation, but at least Piper has some fascinating fellow passengers to watch while on board: namely, the pampered and pushy reality show star Bebe Bosley.

But when Bebe keels over from a fatal dose of poison, one of her flashy necklaces turns up hidden under Tammi’s mattress. While Piper may be furious over Tammi’s cheating ways, she doesn’t believe her cousin capable of murder.

A little sleuthing uncovers a surplus of suspects with plenty of reasons to off Bebe. Now it’s up to Piper and her potty-mouthed parakeet to get to the bottom of the murder before the killer goes overboard to end her meddling ways . . .

The perfect beach bag book, Death in a Deck Chair is an uproariously funny cozy murder mystery with a sassy Southern sleuth who'll have you laughing all the way up the gangplank.

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was light and fun, with a bit of love, mystery and lots of funny happenings. I actually laughed out loud a few times...been a long time since I have done that during reading! I'm not going to tell the story - I think that's left for the reader to discover. I do recommend this book for anyone that is missing cruising during COVID times, and wants to be entertained! This author is fabulous, BTW! Please, Georgia Kains - write more books!

Enjoyed this book, great summer read. Characters were interesting and fun, and I feel the book was well written. The only negative for me was I knew very early on what the main character's ending would be, but I will still read book 2 when it arrives.

Cute and fun

Man Piper had some interesting luck. The story was well written and cute. Really hoping for some romance for Piper and Silas in book 2! While there was a lot of character set up here, I felt invested by the end of the story and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I love how the author wrote humor into the main character's life. I don't think that Piper would have made it otherwise if she didn't have her sense of humor. Obviously, most of the stuff that happened to her was ridiculous and sometimes over the top but that's what makes for such a fun read and gives some good laughs. There were some good red herrings, but at the beginning I had pegged someone just for fun, and what do you know, they did it! I'll definitely borrow the next when it comes to KU.

Predictable, a couple of plot holes but a cute little escape from reality.

A fun, humorous, & entertaining Cozy Mystery

I love cruise ship mysteries and this one did not disappoint. It kept me laughing but also involved in trying to figure out who done it. After all the things that happened to Piper, it made my problems seem negligible. The Book & characters were very entertaining and it's a great summer read. If you like mysteries, especially Cruise Ship Mysteries, I highly recommend this book. I'm looking forward to more books in this series.

Great 1st in series

Great mystery; I did not guess "who did it". I loved the family owned cruise ship atmosphere. Another plus for me was Elton the parakeet. As a bird owner , I enjoyed a bird as a character. Looking forward to Book #2
