This was a lot better than the movie. I actually really liked the extra scenes and the extra insight into different characters that were all cut out in the movie. I especially like that Cable is given more agency in the book, and her treatment as a sex object is more villainous than in the movie.
This book was adapted from the screenplay for the classic 1980’s monster movie title Swamp Thing, which in turn was adapted from the DC comic book series. I watched the movie. Loved it. I read the book and, though it had some issues, I loved it too. This book was fast paced, almost too much so. Insta-love between Cable (the main girl) and Alec (man turned monster). They knew each other less then 24 hours and yet they were madly in love. The characters were very much tropes that one would except from an 80s movie/superhero movie. The heroine is more then meets the eye who’s not afraid to pick up a gun and defend her life Even though she’s never had to shoot a gun her entire life with brains that match the beauty. The main guy has a wonderful mind that gets trapped in a beastly body. The bad guy is an evil genius with a love of drama and flare. Even if I had never seen the movie or knew what Swamp Thing was about I could’ve told you the plot of this book without even cracking the spine; hook, line, and sinker. But even with the tropes, the grammatical errors, the much-too-fast-paced movement I can’t deny that this was a fantastic book. It’s got action, drama, science, explosions; the whole package. I’m glad I have it in my collection. I’ll probably read it again at some point.
What a hilarious book! Loved the 80's sci-fi, but it was written so horribly it was difficult to read. Way too many adjectives. Spent more time trying to make the images in my mind match the words on paper. What a hindrance. I was getting bored because of it, but determined to finish it I skipped the descriptive parts and battle scenes. For what it is, I did enjoy it. However, I was more excited about the concept. Lots of versions out there. Won't try another one. Swamp Thing character is D.C. Comics. Here's the song my brain inadvertently wrote. Cmon cmon cmon swamp thang. You make my heart sang. You make evvverythang mudaaay. 😁

Years ago I saw the movie, a few years later I came across this book based off of the screenplay.
I truly enjoy this book. The author took a rather substandard screenplay and made it decent. I won't say that this is a perfect book by any means. But it does use the characters offered in an effective manner, drawing you into each persons personality by their actions and speech patterns.
For fans of Swamp Thing I highly recommend it, for others I am not so sure honestly. This is most assuredly a niche piece however, so take this review with a grain of salt.
Despite my ambivalent description I enjoy this book every time I read it, the short page count allows me to bus through this book quickly and have a blast doing so, or at least keeps me entertained till I finish it out.
