When news anchor Marina Moore’s well-structured life blows up on national television, she seeks refuge at the family beach house. Built on the shores of Summer Beach, the Coral Cottage was a wedding gift to her grandmother. Single by choice at forty, Marina is intrigued by her grandmother's gutsy advice to life. Soon Marina’s younger sisters arrive with challenges of their own, and they discover a secret that’s bound to change their family forever.

As Seabreeze Inn visitor Jack Ventana is preparing to leave Summer Beach, his beloved Labrador retriever goes missing, and he won’t leave until he finds her.

What began as a short, reclusive holiday will change the course of Marina’s life, especially when a disheveled dog appears shivering on her doorstep. And its owner's connection to the Coral Cottage is an ill-timed revelation.

From the author of the bestselling Seabreeze Inn at Summer Beach series, The Coral Cottage is a new chapter on the sunny coastline.

Marina's career was sabotaged, she is now being sued because her former employer says she ruined the TV ratings, and she runs back to her favorite place....Summer Beach.

Marina needed the warmth and wise advice of her grandmother, but Ginger wasn't there when she arrived. She was devastated, but she was happy to meet her old friends Ivy and Shelley at their bed and breakfast.

I was thrilled to see Ivy and Shelly again too because their story is wonderful and one not to miss in SEABREEZE INN.

Marina stays at Seabreeze Inn until her grandmother returns and then her sister arrives. The Moore sisters are the best of friends, and it is comforting to be back together again.

CORAL COTTAGE is charming and cozy and filled with love, family, secrets, and life changes.

Ms. Moran's books always brighten my day because of the uplifting story line and the delightful characters.

You are happy for the characters, and the setting makes you feel as though you are on vacation and wishing you were spending time with the characters.

Put CORAL COTTAGE on your summer reading list, and virtually enjoy being with these women in a lovely cottage by the ocean, basking in their positivity and their happiness, and their delicious food. 5/5

This was such a fun Summer beach read and the funny thing is I was at the beach reading it this past week as well.
What I loved about this book is it's real honestly, the characters could be your neighbors or even yourself.
I could definitely see these situations happening in real life and the character interaction was so charming.
I'd really love to go visit Summer Beach in Ginger's beach house and stay for awhile.
The main character has an unfortunate event happen to her and she's publicly humiliated.
The book has such a positive vibe to it though. We as women take care of others needs all the time and put ourselves last, thinking oh someday we'll get to what makes us happy.
Bad luck turns into a positive thing as our main character has a career change she had been thinking of but had put off with the busyness of life.
I love seeing strong, positive women. Very uplifting, positive and charming. A fun and entertaining book.
Can't wait to read the next in the series!

What a joy to return to Seabreeze Inn and catch up with Ivy, Shelley, and Poppy!

This story takes us to another house in SoCal, the Coral Cottage with Ginger, Marina, and Kai. It was a joy to read about Marina and Jack. The characters and story were well developed by Marina coming to terms with her fading career and Jack getting the surprise of his life that uproots everything for him.

These two work together and give each other strength through the many hurdles thrown at them.

"Jack had never imagined this summer unfolding quite the way it was. And in the recesses of his mind was the notion that nothing would ever be quite the same again."

Marina Moore is the meme of the moment as she escapes to her grandmother Ginger's home in Summer Beach to figure out just where she goes from here. Jack Ventana, slightly burned out bachelor is taking a sabbatical from his life as a journalist as he and his new furiend Scout settle into Summer Beach while he works on a book. Then, a phone call from an old friend changes everything.

Life can change when you go from a job to work at something you're passionate about. Look at the Bay family over at the SeaBreeze Inn. Is this the chance Marina and Kai get to change their futures? And what's all this fuss about Ginger's past? How will Jack's life shake out? And why does Scout dig the way he does?

Make another trip to Summer Beach and meet and greet even more residents as Jan Moran shares her passion for life with her readers. Believe me, your life might be changed too. Highly recommended 5/5

Marina Moore lands in Summer Beach after her life falls apart live on TV and social media.
Martina was a news anchor for 20 years and hated it. But it paid the bills.
She lands in Summer Beach at her grandmother's cottage and decides to re-invent herself.
Her grandmother was a code breaker during the cold war and a famous one at that.
So she has a very go getter attitude which Marina could use about now.
Meanwhile, the guest cottage is being rented by Jack Ventana who is also at a crossroads in his life and would like to be able to stop running around the world chasing the news.
Summer Beach is a good place to re-invent yourself, slow down and find what makes you happy!

Marina is a news reporter who suffers the ultimate humiliation when her co-presenter reveals her partner’s infidelity live on air. After an unsurprisingly emotional reaction she is treated like a pariah…so heads to her grandmother’s home to lick her wounds.
What she finds there is a relaxed beachside vibe, ideas for a new career and a new love interest.
It doesn’t happen quite that smoothly, but you know where it’s headed.
A great summer read.

This is book one of the Coral Cottage at Summer Beach series. The main character, Marina Moore, has escaped her broken life in San Francisco, to her Grandmother Ginger’s beach cottage in Summer Beach, southern California. She had ended up as being the story herself, on the morning news show she was delivering on a TV station, KSFB. Her much younger, co-anchor Babe, was reporting on a gossip story about a young pop star’s new song and it link to a local architect to the stars. Only problem was, this was a bit too close to Marina’s real life and ended up with her losing her fiancé and her job! She has grown up children and was back in the dating game, but this latest news left her running for some comfort from family. Coming up to the cottage unexpectedly, she finds her gran is away and ends up staying with sisters Ivy and Shelly at the Seabreeze Inn.

She realises that she knows Ivy Bay, one of the sisters running the Inn, from her days surfing with other teens, whilst staying with her two sisters at their grandmothers. Now she has a huge choice to make. What should she do with her life? She has been told by her agent that she won’t get a job for at least six months or more, but with her twins both in college, she needs a good income and within a few months at most. She had thought of leaving her news anchor job to open a restaurant when with her fiancé, so she needs to rethink what she can do on her own now. While waiting for her gran’s return, she met one of the other guests at the Inn, Jack Ventana, an investigative reporter, who is somewhat secretive on what he is working on.

Jack has worked and lived alone for some two decades and now wants to put down some roots and Summer Beach might be the place! He has picked up a Labrador puppy and named him Scout, but now has a challenging dilemma which may change his life forever, after a call from an old colleague. He should be trying to get some ideas written down for some possible books, but he can’t think about that now. Marina has other matters to consider as her younger sister Kai suddenly arrives at the cottage as well, with some news of her own. In this book, they all have life decisions to make and the magic of Summer Beach is there to help them all. What might have been just a short holiday to get away, turns out for much longer and a bit of romance gets added in as well. The usual magic of Summer Beach and its residents, gets to work on everyone. Another fantastic read in the Summer Beach series and a great addition with its own linked series, I look forward to reading the next book, Coral Café. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Unfortunately I didn't like this book very much. It's not overly long but there's so much happening at the same time, so many characters, that it's easy to get lost. Ginger ends up being the most interesting character of all, but even then she seems way too perfect, way too much to be true.

I also couldn’t connect with Marina, and I disliked her right from the start. She’s a 45 year old woman that has to be chastised by her grandmother for being rude to a guest - what more can I say? She spends half the book being rude - or at least unfriendly- to a lot of people, some of them just trying to help or be friendly. She only manages to start her business because her sister steps in - otherwise no matter how good has food was, no one would try it in the first place. Even to her own children she's brusque and unsupportive. Later she apologises, only to repeat the pattern again. She's a journalist with zero people skills and it sort of explained why she lost her job in the first place...

Marina and Jack's romantic involvement is a mystery to me. Jack starts to wonder if she's the one who he will spend the rest of his life with after they talked about half a dozen times - and in most of those times Marina was being - yes, you guessed - rude. No idea how that came to be love.

I liked the small beach town vibe of the book, though, so maybe I will give the next book in the series a try, but I don't actively recommend Coral Cottage

Sometimes you just need to get away to rediscover yourself

Summer Beach: Coral Cottage is the first book in this series and is the story of Marina Moore and Jack Ventana. Both have found themselves in Summer Beach for different reasons but also closely the same. Marina is a woman who is at a precipice in her life and retreating to her grandmother's cottage in Summer Beach is just the place she needs to rediscover herself. Let's just say that her grandmother Ginger is more than fun and willing to kick some butt when needed. Jack has ended up in Summer Beach as his travels around the country, wandering anywhere the road takes him. This summer has the beginnings of some major life changes for both of them. Whether they do that together or not we will have to see.
BTW - Scout, Jack's sweet and adorably cute dog steals the scenes when he shows up. You just have to love a cute pup who does the cutest things.
I enjoyed Coral Cottage and the fact that some of the Summer Beach series characters are crossing over. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Coral Cafe.

I enjoyed the author’s Seabreeze series and this feels like a continuation of those books. It is a light and fun beach read but has enough action to keep you interested. The new characters have some depth to them and the storyline also has a few interesting twists. The author blends the Seabreeze Inn characters seamlessly with new characters. I particularly enjoyed Ginger, the spunky grandmother with secrets in her background. I look forward to the next book!

Its always an interesting premise, to watch someone regroup after their life blows up in a spectacularly public fashion, but here I had a hard time caring too much about the main character succeeding, and I was just confused by the setting - it was this weird mish-mash of the East and West coasts and just ended up being this odd never-never land of a beach town.

I’m so happy to be back in Summer Beach, and delighted to get to see the characters from that series make appearances. But this is a new series, and I found it and its characters equally enjoyable. You don’t need to have read the earlier Seabreeze Inn series to read this one. It can stand on its own.

Marina has just lost her job as a television news anchor in a most unceremonious manner. She’s upset and worried, and decides to head straight from the set to her grandmother’s, Ginger’s, house in Summer Beach, Coral Cottage. It’s named for its coral colored exterior. Her bad luck remains as she finds Ginger away from home, doesn’t have her key, and then sprains her ankle. Luckily, a good neighbor steps in and sends her off to the Seabreeze Inn, where Ivy, Shelly, and Poppy take excellent care of her. While there, she meets Jack, a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter. Marina isn’t impressed by his demeanor, and doesn’t yet know his background.

Things start to change when he rents Ginger’s guest cottage that lies behind the main house. While Jack tries to come up with a subject for a book he intends to write while on sabbatical, Marina must figure out what to do with her life. She thinks she has a plan, and she begins taking steps to make it a reality. She has to do something to help pay college tuition for her twin children.

In the midst of her turmoil, Jack discovers some surprise from his past that will impact on his future. And more surprises come to the forefront about Ginger’s past, and maybe present. And even more when Marina’s sister, Kai, turns up suddenly, recently engaged, but uncertain about whether she should go through with it.

Like the Seabreeze Inn books, this book will draw you in and keep you reading. The characters are lovely, and the setting is a delight. I did feel that things developed a bit too quickly and, sometimes, conveniently, but overall, I thought this was an enjoyable and delightful read. It’s perfect for beach reading, or with Coronavirus, backyard reading. It’s light, with just the right amount of seriousness to make it an interesting read.

Do know that there is a sad aspect to this book concerning one of the characters having a terminal illness. Nothing bad happens to her in this book, but if you are easily disturbed by such things, just know that it is there.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

Jan’s books never disappoint me. When I pick one up, I know it will be a fun read with wonderful characters. The women will be intelligent businesswomen and loyal to their families and friends. There will be sweet romances. The perfect beach or weekend read.

I always love the characters in Jan’s books and am sad when a series ends. But one of the things I really love with her books is that I do not have to say goodbye to my “new friends”. When I started reading the Seabreeze Inn at Summer beach series, I was thrilled when characters from her Love, California series made appearances. And now in her new Coral Cottage at Summer Beach series, I nearly cried when the beloved characters from Seabreeze Inn welcomed the new Coral Cottage characters to Summer Beach. (Note: Each series can be read on their own, but why not read them all for the full “experience”?)

It is refreshing to have a series in which not all the central characters are “Barbie doll” types in their 20s. In Coral Cottage, Marina Moore is 40ish while delightful, yet mysterious Ginger is nearly 80. The storyline was engaging and perfectly paced. In the first installment of the series, Marina seeks comfort from her grandmother Ginger after her news anchor career collapses on her. And investigative reporter Jack Ventana has some major changes in his lifestyle so comes to Summer Beach to sort out his life. There are some beautifully written moments of tenderness with Jack at the core. Marina’s sister Kai, an entertainer, seeks solace at Coral Cottage as she reassesses her relationship with a Broadway producer. But her life gets even more complicated when she finds herself attracted to a local contractor. Then there is Scout…I could just see the overeager, overgrown pup with his silly grin and wagging tail.

Settle in for an unforgettable summer with your new friends at Summer Beach.

I received this book as a gift from the author. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Marina Moore’s news anchor life goes sideways after an on-air ploy to destroy her, so she runs to the only safe place she knows, her grandmother Gingers Coral Cottage tucked on the shore of Summer Beach. Marina with the sound advice of Ginger soon discovers that maybe it is time to reinvent herself and do something she has always loved to do, now that her two children are away at college. Before long Marian’s younger sister Kai comes to visit and together, they decide to embark on a new adventure, one that may keep Marin in Summer Beach longer than she expected.

Jack Ventana is a journalist who needs a break and decides to try his hand at a novel, so he buys a VW van and starts his new adventure along with his new dog Scout in tow. He takes a turn and ends up in Summer Beach and decides this is just the place he needs to be to write his book. Jack ends up renting a small cottage behind Ginger’s home that she rents for the summers. Little did he know, the woman he ran into and seemed to disappear is also living in the main house. When Jack is contacted by a long-lost friend for help, will he also make Summer Beach his home?

I absolutely adored this novel by Jan Moran. After reading the first three novels in the Summer Beach series, I was excited for a new addition to the series. This can be read as a stand-a-lone novel, as Ms. Moran does an excellent job of filling in the back stories of the supporting characters, but you will want to go back and read the rest of the books, trust me on this! This is a story of family, friendship, loss and second chances, and you are enraptured right from the first pages. I cannot wait to see how the story evolves in the second book in the series.

Thank you so much to the author Jan Moran for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.

I initially was wary of reading this book because I really enjoyed the Summer Beach books and thought that this would be a mere shadow of them. Instead, I like this a bit more. I got hooked on Marina as she is unexpectedly setup and then quits. She is in her mid-40s and now needs to reinvent her life by figuring out what she really wants to do. Her grandmother, Ginger, is not at home when she arrives, but we soon meet Ginger, her enigmatic grandmother. Is Jack right about Ginger?

In the previous books, the mystery surrounded a deceased woman. This time, Ginger is alive, in her 70s, and full of life. She has been fascinating Marina and her sisters with stories from her youth that kept them guessing. This kept that storyline interesting and with a twist.

Marina was trying to launch her new business, fight an attraction to Jack (also in his 40s), and provide for her kids in college. Then comes the announcement she was not expecting. I like how she handled it and how it affected the both young adults. The whole family ended up looking for new ways to be that matched who they really are.

The attraction between Marina and Jack starts off a bit antagonistic, but becomes an undeniable attraction. This is a sweet romance... so far. I cannot wait for more. Her two sisters arrive and add layers to the story. More romance to come.

Note: I received an advance reader copy; this is my honest review. I have purchased and read other books by this author.

This is my first time reading something by this author and I really enjoyed it. Marina is having problems with her job and she decides to escape for a while to her grandmother's house in Summer Beach to figure things out. Jack is also taking a time out from his life and settling in Summer Beach fo a while. Many factors play into their lives. Family is also an integral part of this story .The book has a strong storyline and wonderful characters with such personality and depth that give them an authentic quality. You can't help but fall in love with them. The story draws you in from the first page and does not let you go until you are done. A truly heartwarming story, and I highly recommend you pick this one up!

The main characters in this book are all looking for changes in their lives doesn´t matter if they are 30, 40 or 80 and it´s so easy to relate to them cause in real life that how things are as well. We end parts of our lives and have to start over, hopefully being able to do things that we love and not things that we need in order to survive. The location is beautiful and the descriptions are so acurate that you can almost see the see, the cottage and beautiful sunrises and sundowns. It also is a huge story about friendship, family, partnerships and obviously love in all its shades and colours. I believe, as with the characters in this book, I also have a spring in my pace after reading this most enjoyable story. Looks of food for thought in my next steps !

I can't think of any book that I've read that is more formulaic than this one. It's like the author had a "Romance novel" checklist and just had to check off every single thing! Is there a word that means more cliche than cliche? Gah!!!!!!!!

This was my first book in a long time, it was a very easy read. A light romantic story. I had a really good picture of the characters in my head. I believe there is a second book that continues the story oh, I would like to read the next back. I especially liked towards the end of the book where the story changes to suspense.

This was a great read, I just love the characters Marina is having to reassess her life, her sister Kai is having a love crisis and her their grandmother Ginger is a hoot and very mysterious in what she does, while Jack is looking for a new direction in life after a bombshell revelation, thankfully he has Scout the most ridiculously lovable dog ever. Everyone's individual story flows through the others making this a thoroughly addictive read where you laugh, cry, roll your eyes and chew your lip as you see new relationships grow, self discovery happen, surprise revelations and old friends are found. I can not wait for the next book to see what happens next for the Coral Cottage and those who live there!!!

If you loved read the Seabreeze Inn
series, you will love this new series!
It's a feel-good & moving romance.
Marina, was completely humiliated
live on air durning the news. She has
had enough. Summer Beach & her grandma, Ginger, is what she needs.
Jack, is a journalist. He taking a break
from his job & traveling the word.
It's a summer they both will never forget.
Great characters & small town charm make it the perfect summer read.
