Saving Bambi

Polly and Leon live in their dream lake house - though it isn't exactly the dream they thought it would be. Still, the Book Club nights Polly hosts there are popular, and that's where she first meets Bambi, a quiet, mousy figure who clearly has issues. First calling Polly when she's lost in New York, each encounter over the years with Bambi ends in Bambi's suicide attempts, leaving Polly to consider how best to help her.

Janet Burroway is the author of plays, poetry, children’s books, and eight novels including The Buzzards, Raw Silk, Opening Nights, Cutting Stone (all Notable Books of The New York Times Book Review), and most recently Bridge of Sand. Her plays have received readings and productions in Chicago, New York, London, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Her Writing Fiction, now in its ninth edition, is the most widely used creative writing text in America, and Imaginative Writing is in its fourth edition. She is author of the memoir Losing Tim (Think Piece Press, 2014). Winner of the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award in Writing from the Florida Humanities Council, she is Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor Emerita at the Florida State University.

Her most recent plays, Medea With Child, Sweepstakes, Division of Property, and Parts of Speech, have received readings and productions in New York, London, San Francisco, Hollywood, and various regional theatres. Her Writing Fiction is the most widely used creative writing text in America, and a multi-genre textbook, Imaginative Writing, appeared in 2002. A B.A. from Barnard College and M.A. from Cambridge University, England, she was Yale School of Drama RCA-NBC Fellow 1960-61, and is Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor Emerita at the Florida State University in Tallahassee.
