The way in to Murder Creek is a snaky two-lane blacktop with double yellow lines and hairpin curves so dangerous some say you can see the back of your own head when you make a turn. This is where Alonzo Harris, a tour guide and avid hiker, went fishing that summer with Chris "Smithy" Smith, his lawyer friend and fishing buddy. They were hoping to catch a few large mouthed bass or some catfish, but instead caught something else. Something else entirely.
Raised in a military family, Laura Long has enjoyed living all over the United States with her last stop being in the mountains of East Tennessee. Her horror short story, "Brutal," appears in the Knoxville Writers Guild Anthology "A Tapestry of Voices: An East Tennessee Anthology," edited by Kay Newton and Doris Ivie, 2011. Her short story "Air Conditioned For Your Comfort" appears in the famed Halloween card gallery for horror artist Deena Warner (2014). For over 20 years as a non-fiction writer and radio host, she has interviewed hundreds of music and entertainment celebrities (Adrian Belew, Jay Leno, Dweezil Zappa, Henry Rollins) for Nashville's WKDF-FM radio and for publications such as The Nashville Scene and Starlog Magazine. Her first fiction writing paycheck ($20) was for a horror story titled "Craving," which appeared in an online publication called The Late Late Show.
Fun fact: She appears as an extra in the film "At Close Range" starring Sean Penn and Christopher Walken.
