Gold. It can make a man do awful things. Awful, killing things. Best friends Brad and Louis find out what rules they are willing to break to get the gold they both so desperately need. Breaking those moral rules is forced upon them when they stumble across a community that’s been shut off from the world for hundreds of years, on Vancouver Island. In that time, the community’s moral compass has shifted into a dark, depraved direction. There’s a chance of getting out with a fortune in gold, but not all who try to escape will make it. The two men go on a tortuous journey that will change both their lives forever.

Loved his book. Louis and Brad were working their gold claim in Canada. Each of them had a dire need for finding a boat load of gold. Brad to pay off all of his debts, which includes a loan shark who going to kill his family if he isn't repaid and Louis to get is his wife a kidney transplant.

They live in a cave while not panning for gold during the day. At the back of the cave they discover a fissure that they are able to fit thru and find a trail they are able to hike all the way to the bottom. There they find a group of men performing a sacrifice. One of the attendees, a young girl, discovers them. She tells them of a great store room full of gold which Louis and Brad want. She will bring them some of the gold if they will take her sister away from there. They of course agree, but the obstacles become almost insurmountable.

Due to an earthquake they are unable to get back into the cave the way they got out, Brad is captured by the men of the underground dwellers so they can sacrifice him to stop the earthquakes and the only way out is the rapids at the end of the River of Life which runs thru their underground community.

I do not want to say any more because then there would be no point in reading the book. It is a real thriller tough,

A 3.5 star review. Rounded up as it kept me fascinated enough to finish in a day!

Very different from Fred Alvrez' other books. I love that I've now read three books by him, and they literally couldn't be more different from one another! Just goes to show that no author needs to feel stuck in one genre.

The first few chapters made me google images of Vancouver Island... Oh, my goodness! I want to go there now! Definitely a new spot to add to my bucket list - it looks absolutely gorgeous!

The story itself is every bit as engaging as I have come to expect from Fred Alvrez. I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout the journey (trying not to give too much away here) and absolutely adored Maya.

This is my first exposure to this author and indeed it didn’t disappoint. Claimed is a wonderfully crafted action-packed story with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat right to the last page. The two protagonists, Brad and Louis, are burdened with debt and hoping to strike it rich on their gold claim on northern Vancouver Island. It is interesting to watch as the thoughts of incredible amounts of gold blind them to what is most important, their friendship. With the help of two beautiful souls, Maya and Candice, Louis overcomes almost insurmountable odds to reach safety. I definitely look forward to reading more by this author.

Thank you to the author who provided me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I think Science Fiction with a twist of Mystery best describes this book. When the book comes out in March 2019, you can always get your copy, read it, and make your own decision.

Parental note: There is violence as well as adult language.

Two men, best friends, have made an annual event out of panning for gold. Their latest visit comes after some violent earthquakes hit the area. They don't allow this to stop them as they urgently need to bring home gold. Will they be able to make this happen or will unexpected events put them in harm's way?

To me, this is one of those books that grows on you as you get to understand the characters and see what they are going through.

Nice Action Story

Great Plot. The author did a great job of character development; along with the building of their back stories. I found faults with the location and logistics; but nothing I couldn’t get past, to enjoy the story. The things that pulled my attention from the novel was the British slang and colloquialisms. I would like to have had a longer expanded ending/finish to get a glimpse of Maya’s and her sister’s lives.
