Rose and her men are under attack and on the run. As she discovers more about her place in the Phósopoi and bonds with her Kladi she becomes stronger.

I really enjoy this series. Its uniqueness is proven once again with all of the new details that emerge. The world-building is exceptional and the characters are fully developed. The story is compelling and well thought out. The relationships are starting to deepen beyond the automatic bond of the Omas. My only complaint is the lack of downtime. When there are such tension and constant danger there is not enough time fo relationships and the development of their gifts. It took days to get to a safe place to even be able to discuss major and vital developments. It's exhausting. I'm hopeful that they can find a secure spot to safely stay for more than a few days. I want Rose to be able to fully bond with all of her men, for everyone to discover their new and heightened gifts and to master them. To decide their best plan of action on the many fronts. So much discussion needs to take place, so many decisions made. The fate of their Omas, the fate of the Phósopoi all depends on Rose and her Kladi and those yet to be. They need a moment.

Omg what a freaking amazing book! This will not be a very long review because I have no other words than this: one of the best books I’ve read in a long time! It’s totally worth it!

This book drove me a bit nuts. I was torn about finishing it. So many things annoyed me about it. Like how we don’t see the characters grow together and form relationships. We are just told they love each other, but never see any moments to show why. There was exactly one date over the course of two books. Even the conversations they have are primarily about the Phosopoi, not about who they are as people.

And the first intimacy scene had me extremely annoyed. It was forced, cold and unnatural. Almost like the author didn’t know how to make her character take the next physical step because of her past, so just added a random growl noise that suddenly meant they had to have sex, even though she was not emotionally ready. With her abusive past, and all this talk of not pressuring her, it felt absolutely awful to put her in a situation where she had no choice. It felt like taking away her consent.

Basically no time is spent delving into characters. They have a brief intro of their looks and one character trait, and that is what they are stuck with for the entire book.

She also constantly thinks up questions or issues, but rather than thinking them through or dealing with them she pushes them to the back of her mind for later. But later never comes. It feels like her whole life is one big game of avoidance. If it is too hard, or the wrong time, makes her feel too much - push it back. Seriously, how much room does she have in her brain???

Travelling The World

As Sebastian lies in his coma, Rose joins Phosopolis University and makes some new friends. At the same time her Kladi are trying to find out who attacked him. When attacks against Rose and her Kladi intensify they decide they must go on the run and end up travelling all over the world.

During the course of their travels they fight the enemy, make new friends and allies and Rose finally learns about her heritage, as well as that of the entire Phosopoi race. It turns out that their Omas has a very big fight on their hands.

Though I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t quite as engaging as the first in the series. I felt that some of the characters were created purely as plot devices and then set aside. There wasn’t enough real emotion attached to them. I also felt that the characters were being moved around a game board and there was much less chance for character development and the bonding was a bit rushed and skipped over, when I felt it would have been a lot more involved emotionally, especially with Rose’s past.

I felt that maybe the author got really excited about the plot and wanted to move them here so that could happen and there so that could happen, without taking the time to slow down a bit and work out what was happening inside the characters and their connections to each other. I understand it, but I felt it let down the book a little, when the first book really paid attention to the emotions of the characters.

I’ll probably read the next book when it comes out as the plot and world building is really interesting, and hope that the author realises that sometimes taking a bit of time away from the plot can be a good thing.

Rushed, luke warm, good storyline, but meh

There are so many holes in the story. You are rushed through each part, there is no time to delve into the stories of each new character...One minute there is a supposedly strong phosopoi named Birdie and the next minute she's dead.... why even introduce her character? There are 4 friends from school that are helping her evade capture... 1 died suddenly, 1 is a traitor...then kills himself... no reasoning or lead up ,1 disappears after friend died and blamed Rose, no back story no nothing, not even a confrontation, just gone and the last is valid and completely unaffected by death of said friend, but then disappears...?!?! Why were they introduced?
Finally the sex scenes have about as much steam as a tepid bath. Blah..
I felt like this book was written by a 14 year old with a decent imagination but no life experience.

A messy but earnest sequel, Sheltered Roots failed to draw me in as the first of the series did.

The pacing and progressions in this book were problematic for me. Maybe it's because I'm struggling to connect to any of the characters, or the host of minor inconsistencies and grammar issues. To me, the entire book felt like an unstable staircase - more attempts at plot depth and character progression only resulted in a shaky story.

I appreciate the effort put in to create a unique dynamic and fantastical world, but it feels stretched and shallow for my preference of slow building. Regardless, a more casual reader would probably enjoy this.

Very well written book. I started this on a website before and I am pleasantly surprised how this book comes along! Well done Jeanne. The story of Rose and her men continues and we learn more about them in this book. There is more action and romance. Always a good thing in these times. I like there is more back story here but sometimes it feels like there should be a little bit more. Very good read though.

Captivating

I loved this story, the wait was so worth it, I couldn't put it down. Rose learns some unexpected things yet she still manages to be strong. Her interactions with her guys brings them closer, you also get more background on Rose and her guys. Although it doesn't end in a cliffhangeras such, more like a little hill, I really do hope the next book will be out soon.

Sheltered Roots picks up shortly after 6 Branches. Sebastian is in a coma and Rose is still adjusting to her new role. There is more intrigue, action, and things get steamy. I liked the we learn more about Rose’s history and get to see her making some friends. The guys are protective, but not over bearing. I’m excited to see what happens next in this series!

I loved the first in this series, and the sequel doesn't disappoint. In this second installment we get more action, more character growth, relationship development, oh and a whole lot of mysteries solved and created. I loved seeing more if this secret society, and getting to know the guys better. So worth the wait.

I liked book 2 of this series. We got to see alot of plot progression. I would love to see this book written more like an epic fantasy. I think the plot and world building has the potential to be amazing and would love to read a 500 page novel with all the details of it. I look forward to seeing how this story play out as it goes forward.

Where is the ending?

The book it self is a good story. The imagination and outline of what is in the book is good. The problem is that I’m two books in and there is nothing but cliffhangers. It says that it is a two book series but by the end of the second book it just stops so you don’t have and ending.

Keeping me hanging and ready to preorder the next book

The second book in the series was even better than the first. I couldn’t put it down and wish
I didn’t read it so fast. Great plot twists and character development abounds. This is a must read by all RH fantasy fans!!!!

The story just gets better.

There was a lot of action and more romance in this book. The romance is not very descriptive, more fade to black kind of romance. There was a few twist I didn't see coming. I can't wait for the next book.

couldn’t finish

So the blurb made it seem so much more enticing and there would be spicy scenes but it was basically fade to black. A lot of rushing things. Kinda wish I didn’t spend my money now.

Not as advertised

Advertised as book 2 of 2. Ends on a cliffhanger. No more in the series? What a disappointment. Not sure I would buy again.

Amazed

I'm an avid reader, but, these books take me into the realm of her thoughts. I'm amazed that all of the different names and places fall into order quickly . Most other books I find myself looking for the names or places often, not these books!! They are so planned out, I'm in another world and enjoying it.
Thank you for writing!!--Jody
