I love reading the books in this series. They are aimed at YA and while they are fiction, they always tackle social issues.

They are also very short, which makes it challenging for an author I am sure.

This one looks at gambling addiction from a young girl's point of view.

Overall, the story is good, until the last two chapters.

Normally I complain that parents are not present enough in books discussing serious issues like abortion or addiction. But in this one, the parents are way too everything nice with sprinkles on top. The author took every cliche when it comes to the "perfect" and ran with it. It really took away from an otherwise pretty good plot.

Shame.

This is my second read of this book and I did not read my previous review on purpose.

I loved the writing style, down to earth and the engaging.

Addiction to gambling, this is a subject that engrosses me.

So why only 3 stars?

1) you really need to suspend your disbelief.

2) Things themselves beautifully with a big bow.

3) The love couple is just not realistic, ditto for the parents reactions.
