There are notes for the caregiver at the beginning that include talking about the five stages of grief, and struggling with sadness and having conversations about how to feel better. Personally, it felt like this was reinforcing the idea that it’s not OK to be sad and that sadness isn’t a natural expression at the loss of a loved one. The art consisted of all photos of real people, I did like the racial diversity presented though I was surprised that there were no people of different abilities, nor were there any people of various body sizes. There were only descriptions of funerals, memorials, and wakes as ways to honor a loved one who has passed. There are notes in the back and a glossary. This was just fine not particularly great.
