Benedict's Challenge

Rate this book
Benedict’s Challenge (Regency Club Venus 3) is the 3rd book in Amazon #1 & USA Today Bestselling Author, Carole Mortimer’s, hot new historical romance series, Regency Club Venus.

Lord Benedict Winter knows what those in Society think of him. Of their disapproval of his having studied and become a physician. They are even more shocked that he uses his skill, not just to treat the poor but also to care for the ladies of Club Venus, a house of ill-repute owned by one of his closest friends. Not disapproving enough to ban him from entering their homes of course, because he is, after all, one of the wealthiest gentleman in England.

Having shunned all attempts to entice him into the Marriage Mart, many in Society also believe Benedict to be a cold and arrogant man, with no emotion to give.

His close friends know better.

As they also know of the secret he has kept for so long…

In the circumstances, the very last thing Benedict needs or wants is to meet and instantly be attracted to Chloe, a young woman he discovers residing in another man’s home.

Chloe has lost everyone dear to her. Her parents. The brother she adored. All gone. And in their place she now lives in the home of a man who despises her and takes every opportunity to make those feelings known to her.

Lord Benedict Winter sweeps in like a breath of fresh air into the stultifying life Chloe is now forced to lead. But he blows hot and cold, one moment making his desire for her known and the next putting her at arms’ length and insisting he is not the man for her to build her dreams upon.

But dreams, Chloe quickly discovers, have a will and determination of their own.

As does she…

I love reading this author. Enjoyable story, but it didn't quite make my fave of the series - so far. I felt a bit uncomfortable at the domestic violence done to Chloe. Apart from that, I did enjoy reading it. 4☆

Benedict’s Challenge, Book 3 of the Regency Club Venus series, was about Doctor Lord Benedict Winter, and Miss Chloe (last name not given till later in the story, so I won't divulge it here), a young lady Benedict found residing in another man's house.
As Benedict, being a doctor, was checking on one of his patients who had been assaulted, he noticed a young woman who seemed to be in need. However, having been told by the patient there was no such lady, that it was probably a maid he had seen, Benedict did not follow through on learning more about her.
A week after seeing Chloe for the first time, Benedict was surprised to find her collapsed on his doorstep. After attending to her needs, he removed her from London in order to keep her safe while he looked into her background to see how he could help her further.
There isn't much to tell about this story without going into great detail. So what I will do is just critique it. The characters were a bit stilted and wishy-washy, especially Benedict. He tended to go from one extreme to another with the blink of an eye. Even his reasons for not marrying didn't make a lick of sense, other than a bit of self-pity.
Chloe was a bit odd for the most part. She tended to hide her history from everyone, almost as if she were either ashamed of it or as if there were secrets she wanted to keep to herself. While only 19 years of age, she was portrayed to have much older characteristics, although not always as she was a bit of a mutton head when it came to her own safety.
The storyline was a bit weak but still a good one. It did have a good amount of drama and angst, with a smidgeon of humor laced into it. Still, it wasn't quite up to a five-star rating.

Enjoyable Romance Book

Benedict and Chloe's story is well written. Fans of Carole Mortimer's main stream romances are sure to enjoy it. I found it lacking in the love scenes and chemistry. Regency Club Venus is supposed to be a much more steamy series and although there are a few good love scenes I was disappointed not to read about them fully consummating their relationship. I enjoyed the Jimmy/Beatrix subplot and I hope they get their own book. I felt Benedict's reasons for not wanting to be close to anyone a little flimsy. I felt he could have easily hidden the issue given the distance between London and Surrey and still had a full social life and even marriage.

He's Met His Match!
Benedict has met his match! Such a beautiful story where I watched the hard as nails Benedict melt and show a softer, very caring and amorous man.
The lady is Chloe. She has no one who cares for her wellbeing besides a lady who is supposed to look after her.
What is the mystery behind her forced incarceration and will Benedict be able to find a solution?
This is a fast paced story of romance, intrigue and mystery that I just couldn't put down and so I am very happy to recommend it!

Benedict spots Chloe creepin when he makes a house call. When he asks about her is suspiciously shut down. A week later she shows up at his house malnourished, sick, and beaten. Benedict takes her and his patient Jimmy to his estate to watch over them while he handles personal matters.
When he says she’s mine the first time I had chills. BUT Jimmy is actually who I fell in love with in this book. I really liked him into the previous one but we got even more of him here.
Overall Book ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A facade

Uncle plays one, Benedict, Chloe, and even Jimmy. What???? Ms. Mortimer's clever and talented story will reveal all. Overall quality of writing was really good. Light steamy intimacy scenes, no cliffhanger or cheating and you get a happy ever after. Enjoy 🤓
