Few religions have grown more rapidly in recent years or attracted as much notice as the Mormon Church. Yet despite the growth and attention, most people know little about that church, and misinformation about its beliefs abounds. What Do Mormons Believe? succinctly introduces The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rex E. Lee, formerly president of Brigham Young University and Solicitor General of the United States, explains what members believe and why, from the viewpoint of a believer.
I appreciate the reasoning for writing this book - the author said his purpose was not to convert or convince people re: LDS but simply to convey what Mormons believe.
While I find the study of religions to be enjoyable and important, I had a more personal reason for reading this as my fiance was raised a Mormon. I wanted to read it to better understand his upbringing and actively practicing Mormon relatives. This book was easy to read and very short. I definitely learned from it, but I’m walking away with even more questions.
Regardless, a good start. I wish every religion had a handy dandy book like this.
Rex E. Lee was a brilliant lawyer, US Solicitor General, and President of Brigham Young University before dying of cancer. He was also a Student Body President while I attended Brigham Young University. This book is his witness and testimony that Jesus Christ has restored His Church to the earth and that it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I really like Rex Lee. Or maybe I'm supposed to call him "Rex E. Lee". I don't really remember. I wasn't paying attention to much when he was alive because I was in Jr High and was busy checking out my hair a lot.
I really liked this book. It is an LDS' perspective on the church and what they believe. It answered a lot of questions very clearly. I enjoyed this book.
Rex E. Lee is a wonderful writer, both on Church-related matters and on the law. Like any good advocate, he has a passion that comes through regardless of the medium. The book was very quick to read.
