Rate this book
Internationally acclaimed medium Gordon Smith has been studying the world of spirit for many years. In this extraordinary book, he takes a close look at the subjects that have fascinated and amazed people for centuries: life after death, reincarnation, the afterlife, and experiences of heaven and hell. Using the special inner sight with which he was born, Gordon takes the reader on a journey through the spirit world and into the cycles of life and death. In his quest to find the truth and be able to answer the many questions that people ask him at his talks and seminars, Gordon has conducted interviews with scientists, Tibetan lamas, healers, and other gifted mediums. He combines this research with his own remarkable experiences of encounters with the spirit world. The contents of this book will challenge our view of reality. In his clear and down-to-earth style, Gordon approaches his subject head-on. He cuts through the illusion and fakery to get to the core of the truth about the spirit world and the continuing existence of human consciousness.

Hailed as “Britain’s most accurate medium” Gordon has been featured in numerous television documentaries including the BBC’s Everyman, "Mediums: Talking With the Dead" 3 part series as well as appearing as an expert guest on various shows such as This Morning, Richard and Judy and the BBC's Heaven and Earth. Gordon has also presented one of the nation's favourite paranormal shows, Living TV's 'Most Haunted', as well as his own series on the Biography Channel. He even managed to find the time to squeeze in a cameo in a Jacki Collins movie, Paris Connections!

He has travelled to many parts of the world to appear before audiences, read for many celebrities, and written numerous books, including Spirit Messenger and The Unbelievable Truth, which have been published to critical acclaim. Gordon has written regular columns for newspapers such as the Daily Record, Take A Break magazine and Best magazine.

From early childhood Gordon had the ability to see, sense and hear spirit people. As a young boy his ability often unnerved those around him and so he learned to close his mind to these experiences.

Through his teenage years he pushed his abilities into the background of his awareness and lived a very average teenage life. He pursued his passion for gymnastics until he was 19. He was good enough to be selected for the Scottish Commonwealth Games squad. It wasn’t until he was 24, when a friend’s brother appeared at his bedside in the middle of the night that these gifts were re-awakened. He later learned that the brother had died that night in a tragic fire. Gordon went with his friend to a spiritualist church, during the service he was told that he would one day be speaking from the ‘platform’. This was the start of over 15 years of study and practice as Gordon went on to develop his outstanding abilities as a medium or messenger from the spirit world under the tutelage of some of the great legends of the spiritualist church. He developed in a mediumship circle run by the extraordinary Mrs. Primrose, an inspirational figure in Scottish spiritualism and became a close friend of the legendary Albert Best, who is widely acknowledged as one of be best mediums of the last century.

Many years on Gordon Smith is now one of the world’s top psychic mediums and spiritual teachers in the UK. Having spent 15 years balancing his work as an internationally renowned medium with his day job, as a barber in his native Glasgow, Gordon now conducts mediumship workshops and events around the world. Gordon’s Celtic charm and lively demonstrations provide his audience with a rare opportunity to experience the fascinating phenomenon of mediumship, which he delivers to his audience with a mix of his distinctive style of humour, pure passion, and empathy to others.

"I know I am more than this. I know that though my physical body will die one day, I will not. I know that my spirit will learn from all that I have experienced in this life as Gordon Smith and will add that program to the memory of my spiritual databank. My next program might run in a more subtle spirit world of light or it may run back here on earth. I don't have the words to describe the stage I will go through after death, but one thing I can say is that I am conscious of living now, and that is most important." - Gordon Smith

I chose this quote because I feel it sums up what Smith's book The Unbelievable Truth is all about. Smith is a proclaimed psychic medium from the UK, but as he makes clear in this book, he was not always as such. It wasn't until the death of a friend that the intuition and premonition he'd had growing up became something more, and he began to develop his Mediumship.

This book is a journey of sorts, through all the things Smith has discovered and the lessons he's learnt about life and death over the course of his lifetime. He doesn't pretend to have all the answers. His views are primarily Spiritualist (that is, influenced greatly by the Spiritualist Church), but that doesn't mean they're not relatable. I'd not heard of Smith (or seen his TV show) prior to reading this book, and I particularly enjoyed the chapters on reincarnation and consciousness.

Very easy, light reading. Recommended to people with an interest in the topic.

I just finished reading The Unbelievable Truth by Gordon Smith, Hay House, 2015. It was a “Don't put it down” sort of book. I was sorry when I finished. He is regarded as one of Britain's most accurate mediums. He explains clearly the difference between the terms medium, seer, ghosts, poltergeists, spirits and all things in between. It was engaging, funny from time to time, and always sensible. He believes that a lot of these experiences originate with the people involved and their imaginations. Some times the experiences are inexplicable and don't arise from the imagination of the experiencer. They defy common sense. These stories enter entered the realm of strange events. He gives examples throughout. This is a book that will demand a rereading or two.

Another good book by Gordon Smith. More about questions people want to ask psychics but using some of his experiences to demonstrate or answer these questions
