Strategic Organizational Change, Second Edition is written by a leading organizational change consultant. Until the first edition was released in January 2003, little practical guidance was available for planning and implementing organizational change. In this book, Dr. Beitler begins by providing a systematic approach for diagnosing organizational problems. Then he offers his step-by-step approach for designing and implementing organizational change interventions. Everything is written in a practical, easy-to-follow style, with an abundance of checklists and practice tools. Every manager and change consultant will gain valuable insights and practice tools from this book. In an increasingly competitive world these insights and tools will give managers and consultants the edge they need to succeed!
Great overview, with a focus on organizational culture intervention, of different frameworks of strategic management – Levin’s forcefield analysis and stages of change, Kotter’s model of leading change, French and Raven’s bases of power, Six Target process – detailed sections on data gathering and much more
Not a bad book, it gives a nice overview to different topics in OC and OD.
You won't become a pro after reading this book, that should be clear. While I agree with previous commentaries that the book is relatively basic, but it is impossible to include in it everything one needs to gain expertise in that field.
Books of this type are nothing more than just an introduction to the field, same as books on management principles. They give an overview, but after that, you need to read specific and moire detailed books on particular topics.
Thereby, the "shallowness" of the book is not author's fault.
Not bad for a beginner delving into OD practices. This is fast food against gourmet cuisine. Does the job but can be shallow. Rather over hyped book. Wendel & French, Mouton & Blake, John Kotter or even Gary Maclean etc are much more comprehensive theory and practical books on Organizational change
