REBEL GHOST

Rate this book
Something was wrong -- very wrong. A faint alarm arose within the Ranger. Major John Mosby, commander of the 43rd Battalion of Confederate Rangers, knew the Yankee soldiers usually tied their horses with a slipknot for quick release. He pulled the rope again, and again he failed to free it. He started to turn to whisper a warning when suddenly he heard a voice from the shadows. Mosby's hands reached for a gun, but before he could grip his weapon he felt the muzzle of a musket jammed into his spine. And in a flash, there was a ring of Yankees surrounding him.

Virginia, summer 1864, Mosby must cross Yankee lines to get message to Rebel army in the west, but he is immediately captured by Yankees. He escapes with help of other Rebel prisoners and makes it to next town where he is captured again. He escapes again and finds Rebel sympathizer in next town but is betrayed; he narrowly escapes again and makes it to next town. Here he destroys a Yankee ammo dump and frees 2000 Rebel prisoners. After harrowing chase by Yankees he finally reaches Rebel lines and gets the message through.

Major John Mosby actually existed, but this is total fiction dependent upon luck, coincidence, and good fortune at every turn, thus unbelievable and unrealistic. Reads like history for juveniles.
