I absolutely couldn’t put this down. Aaron and Alene’s story got ahold of my heart and didn’t let go. Their progression from kids to adults in love was fraught with beautiful moments, joy, conflict, heartbreak, and misguided selflessness.

“You’ve tortured me for almost two years, and now you won’t let me play?”

Their decisions were made with the other in mind and as a result, their journey took the long road home but there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that they would end up where they were meant to be.

It’s my first book by Gabrielle and I will definitely be picking up her future releases. She has a very distinct approach to writing and her talent compelled me to go to work on only 2 hours of sleep.

“And whatever happens, you’ll always be mine, Aaron.”

How to begin 🤔 Oh, I know...
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! 😍🥰❤
I'm really and truly in love with it 😭.
This book has all what I love in a romance.
Heartbreak, drama, emotional breakdown, unbelievable gripping love story and is hot as hell
🔥🔥🔥
Damn, the chemistry between them is just OMG!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Alane's and Aaron's book is an unbelievable emotional and gripping story. It's a rollercoaster of hurt feelings and dramatic journey through memories and regrets in an incredible heartbreaking love story 😭😍.
❤ Do you remember your first love?
❤ Do you think about the what if sometimes?
❤ Do you believe in soul mates and first and only love?
This beautiful story is all about these ifs and the one and only real love, but also about second chances and forgiving at the right time.
An amazing, swoony and sweet love story with so many obstacles and complications that it took 27 years to clear up all of them.
What began with 15 year old girl and boy and led to a disaster and a broken heart, indeed never really ended.
When it's the one, you can't just forget.
When it's the one, you will always think about those ifs and maybes.
When it's the one, it'll haunt you your whole life.
OMG! I love this book so much
❤❤❤
I'm emotional wrecked, my emotions are all over the place and I'm in love with the characters. And not only the main characters 😍
Ok, I think that's enough of the spoilers.
This book is a stand alone, but you should read the other books by Gabrielle.
You'll recognize a lot of the characters in this one from her previous books.
I recommend this book to everyone and not only the romance and HEA lovers.
Read it, enjoy it and let me know what you think about it 😘

Bittersweet second chance romance that will give you all the feels! I freaking LOVED this book!!!

Gabrielle G. has written a captivating story with such great characters you feel like you can relate to them and their issues. Their love, their what-ifs and what-nows, just radiated off the pages. Alane Smith and Aaron Gritt journey is truly bittersweet. My emotions were all over the place with this book and I could not turn the pages fast enough.

This is one of the author's best work thus far! I can't wait to read what she comes out with next, especially from the Gritt Family series. Give me some more of Barnabas!!! Heartbroken by Gabrielle G is a hands down EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

I just finished this book tonight so I'm really raw with it. All I can say is that this is a top read of 2020 for me and I don't think anything will surpass it. This book was amazing! Gritty and real and raw and full of so much love and loss and yes, heartbreak. Gabrielle G. spins a story so consuming it's nearly impossible to put down until you've gotten to the end and taken in every last perfect word. I LOVED this book and it is an absolute MUST READ!

Gabrielle G writes such a heartbreakingly beautiful second chance romance book with Heartbroken. Aaron and Alane had me all up in my feels. My emotions were running all over the place as I followed their journey through all the ups and downs, the memories of what once was to the present. The author will have your heart pounding as she did mine from start to finish. Gabrielle G has totally outdone herself with Heartbroken as I feel this is her best book to date! This is a breathtaking must read, deserve all the stars heartfelt story!

Where do you even start to talk about this book and the rollercoaster of emotional extremes it took me on?? I’m still thinking about it weeks later. This has been one of my favs for the year! If you love a second chance you need this!

27 years!! How do you lose a love and find your way home after 27 years? How can you still be that same girl who had this huge love in your heart when it’s beyond shattered and tangled in this mess of secrets.

Starting this book I know the Gritt family a little bit and I know that Gabrielle writes these beautiful flawed and broken characters. Who sometimes I want to strangle and just hug them sometimes both simultaneously. So I felt like I was ready. I was not prepared to fall so in love with the Gritt family. Every damn one of them!

This story has a really wild POV and time frame flow. You get to see them each as these young hearts finding that great love. Then present day full of hurt and turmoil. It’s almost like coming from the beginning and the end at the same time as you uncover secrets and helplessness. You have this good idea who should be asking for forgiveness and it’s completely blown apart. You won’t be able to guess who’s had a hand in their falling apart or staying apart.

Then you will just boo hoo your heart out as a love as deep as Aaron and Alane’s can find their fight to make it after all that’s happened.

There were multiple times throughout this book I was just mad at certain characters and had to have a heart to heart about what were their options as kids, without guidance, without the truth? They both did what they thought was best to save each other from hurt and both ended up heartbroken.

What can i say?... Another brilliant story by Gabrielle G.
Aaron Gritt & Alane Smith are childhood sweethearts but no one said the path to true love would be easy. Plenty of laugh out loud moments, love and heartbreak and some steamy scenes that are 🔥
You'll fall in love with this story and the family ❤

DNF at pg. 120.
I didn't expect to like this book, but was loving it. There were some comments made about religion that made me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if that was ever address or came full circle, but that's not the only reason why I am DNF-ing the book. A trope that I really don't like is hinted at so I read spoilers and it is that trope.

Heartbroken had me hooked from the first few pages. I love this couple and I love this family. This book is Alane and Aaron's story, but it is so much more. The Gritt family as a whole are absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to have more of them!

This book, spanning several decades, is one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Alane and Aaron were supposed to be each other's forever. They were supposed to experience all their firsts together. But when Aaron is given a timeline by Alan's pastor father, Aaron simply thinks he'll figure it out. He has time. Until he doesn't.

The storyline instantly grabbed me and I struggled to put this book down. When I wasn't reading I found myself thinking about Alane and Aaron. I needed to know. I needed wrongs to be righted. I needed to not be heartbroken over their story.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best books I've read this year. I can't wait to read more from Gabrielle G.

One of the best books I've read this year. I was dying for a good contemporary book so I reached out to Gabrielle G. because I knew I needed one of her books to read! Her writing is medicine and therapy to my soul. Aaron and Alane, just like many other characters Gabrielle created in the past, are perfect together. Their chemistry is insane and most importantly, the message behind this book is amazing. A must read. Do not miss this book!

"To those who believe it ain’t over ‘til it’s over."

So....I kept this book in my TBR list from a long time and was waiting for "Forsaken" to release BUT I was done with waiting and opened it finally to read it. And boy, this is nothing what I had gathered from the blurb.

"But that’s all he’ll be, a what-if, a fantasy I could never have, a boy who changed the path of my life forever, who crushed my dream and shaped me into who I am today."

I don't really like to read older romances BUT when I started reading this- I kept reading and reading until it was finished with the cutest epilogue ever. The blurb didn't do justice to the amazing power-pact the whole story was. It was not cliche, it was not weird- it was almost natural and I felt that- you know?

"Everything I do at practice seems to be taken as a challenge to do better, and she does better every time. If she wanted, she could choke better than I’m doing right now."

The characters and everyone along the ride was impact and made the story what it was. No extra character which wan't significant was there and I was glad for it. There was no cliche drama and there was this simple love which makes me sign in wonder and those the pact that the MC, Aaron kept- swooning.

I didn't thought that I would like this story when I was in the earlier chapters- for starter, it had Then and Now chapters going back and forth to past and present and I don't actually enjoy that BUT then their love story "story" was worth reading. It was a older people romance like 40s BUT then their love story "story" was worth reading. It had a play of fate in which the fate kept on delaying then BUT then their love story "story" was worth reading.

This is my 3rd book from the author and it certainly it won't be the last.

I’ve sat on this review for a bit. I have so many thoughts and emotions swarming through me that I’m not exactly sure how to put them into the perfect words to explain how visceral this story truly is. Aaron and Alane’s story captured me right away. I needed to know what was going to happen, what had already happened. The conflicting emotions were like butterflies in my stomach that were trying to escape. The heartbreak, the betrayals, the loss...the love (and sexy times!), the connections, the friendships. I loved every word from beginning to end, even if some of the things that happened and were said caused me extreme anxiety! I also need to mention how excited I was to have more Luke and Dex because I absolutely love them. Actually I’ve become quite attached to the Gritt family and can’t wait to read more!

This is my first Gabrielle G. book and I can’t wait to read more. I love this second chance story...and not just second chance 5-10 years later. We are talking about 27 years later!!!!!! Aaron and Alane were in their teens and the next time they encountered each other they were in their 40s. I loved this storyline. It’s interesting how much they changed, or didn’t change. There is a little twist to it that at first I didn’t see coming but little hints were dropped until I finally realized what was happening. The different family dynamics was interesting between Alane’s and Aaron’s upbringings. They were forced into such a difficult position when they were so young and they made the decision that they felt was best for each other, both of them being totally selfless. I definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you like older characters! I liked how each chapter switched between then and now and between Aaron and Alane. I am definitely looking forward to read more books by Gabrielle G! I already bought Dex and Luke’s book!

This book title is perfect for this book. We get dual POV's in this story of Aaron Gritt and Alane. The story goes from past to present time. They fell hopelessly in love in high school, made plans, but plans always change. Aaron is Luke's brother from 'Often & Suddenly'. An illness in her family has brought her back to her hometown. Years have passed since his first love have been around each other. I felt the devastation, the heartbreak of Aaron and Alane's relationship in the beginning and when they finally see each other again. They loved each other soo deeply and to have broken up the way they did, their future happiness planned and the inner battles Alane's dealt with, pretty sad.

This was such an agonizing, broken, but beautiful second chance romance, once we got over the mess, the happiness exploded. The supporting characters were a great, fun addition to the story. Ms. G, cleared up any questions and concerns I had, and it gave me the happy ever after with a smile. Alane and Aaron's story was written really well. If an author can make me feel certain emotions, that is a huge plus for me. Definitely recommend.

Why I haven’t read this author before??
My all-time favourite tropes are second chance romance and this book ticks all the boxes in my perfect romance story.
Beautifully written story with flawed reliable characters and a life full of decisions that many times weren’t upon them to take but love will always make its way into their lives and will bring back together two souls that were meant to be forever.

This author was new to me, so I started this book with no expectations at all. What I got was a well-written, sweet, angsty, thought provoking story. One of my criteria for judging a good read is if I care about what happens to the characters. And I did care, because this author created an interesting story around these fallible and relatable people.

Aaron loved Alane and Alane loved him back, but family intervention and misunderstandings drove them apart. Now, separated for almost three decades, they meet again. From the first reuniting, anger, frustration and emotional pain come flooding back, and we are taken on a journey of acceptance and healing.

This was an interesting story about good and decent people who live through and survive the traumatic times that life often brings. I started the book and finished it in one sitting. It held my attention; I enjoyed this very much. I recommend this book if you’re looking for a very satisfying read.

Five amazing, flashing stars for this book!!

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is raw, emotional, frustrating, totally steamy and worth every minute you read it for. This author is one I now read with every release, and this book, with all of its craziness and twists was AMAZING!!

The world Gabrielle G has created is big and beautiful. Her previous books gives you insight into the past and what has happened. The characters tug at my heart with everything I have. These characters are one that could be your neighbor next door or the person you pass in the store. She knows how to write real, raw people and keep you enthralled from the first word to the last beautiful word.

Alane and Aaron came alive in the book. Their story is one of being influenced and moving on, even though you never forget your first love. This story will hit you to the core with all these 2 characters have been through, along with the rest of the family. Sometimes we see things how we want to, and not how they are actually done. The mixture and support of the family is one reason Gabrielle G amazes me. She can bring laughter, emotion, tears and love all in one page.

Alane and Aaron are two people who have made mistakes. They are forced back together and the sparks are still flying. They have so much baggage and insecurities, they have quite the twisted road ahead of them. Together, they navigate the road. It is not pretty and perfect, but they navigate it together. By the end, you might be ready to cuss the author. But, you will fall in love with her characters and their amazing, heartfelt story.

A read that deserves more than 5 stars!!!

I read Heart Broken a while ago and completely got overwhelmed with everything going on but I wanted to get my review up now. This story is a super angsty second chance romance that deals with first love, parental pressure, mistakes, lost love, heartache, divorce, and forgiveness while also navigating careers, children and even some issues of mental health. It is dramatic and so heartbreakingly tragic what Alane and Aaron had to deal with from their teens until they meet again so many years later as adults who realize they made such life-altering mistakes that changed the course of their lives in ways they never even thought possible. You will go on the roller coaster with them as they try to see if their all encompassing love has a chance again. I was sad, shocked, angry and laughing through tears. This book wrecked havoc on my emotions but I love that it made me feel ALL the feels. I didn’t like both Alane or Aaron at some points because I was just so mad at them for their secrets and mistakes but I was always rooting for them. Heart Broken is such a departure read for me and I am so glad I took a chance on this book. I can’t wait to read more from this series! I highly recommend this book!!⁣

This was my first book by this author (I know, shame on me!) but definitely not my last!!!

This story starts about Alane & Aaron falling in love in high school. Slowly but steadily. Unfortunately she’s the pastors daughter, so it’s not as easy as one would think. A lot of restrictions surround these two, but they make do anyway. Their love is deep, and they have their lives planned out. But hardly ever anything goes according the way you planned right??

Almost thirty years later Alane returns to her hometown due to a family illness.
What happens when she sees Aaron again for the first time after these long agonizing years??

Such a beautiful heartbreaking second chance story. I loved how the author brought all the feelings to life. So vividly. I was hurting for them while reading. And me feeing for the characters is what’s making it a great story for me!!

I loved this story. It was addictive, heartbreaking and beautiful. Second chance at it's best. Alane and Aaron - their young love was powerful but not strong enough to fight for when they were young and didn't know better. After everything that happened in 30 years they were apart they almost missed their second chance at love again but this time they were adults (most of the time) about it and they got HEA that was waaaay over due.

Absolutely perfect ❤️

I loved this story. The characters are so human and messed up that I couldn’t help but hurt with them. There was plenty of anxiety and definitely lots of heartbreak in this story. The plot was fantastic and had me wanting to read more about this family.

Aaron is a moody and brooding teenager and just as moody when he is a forty year old man. So much happened that could have been different if only there had been some honesty and the spiteful people had been thwarted.... but then there wouldn’t be a story.

Alane is the kinky pastor's daughter, now a grown woman in her forties, who has had her heart broken for decades. Her story is one of hope but with a dash of despair and such heartfelt emotions. I love the Gritt family.

The story was easily followed but I’m not a huge fan of then and now, back and forth timelines in a story. I would have preferred a straight timeline but I still loved the end result.

Wow...bookhangover... my first by this author but damn. All. The. Feels. Alane vs. the Gritt family. The story flits back and forth through past and present revealing a heart breaking story of a once in a lifetime love. I loved it. I laughed, and I was heart broken.

What did I like? Second chance romances always get to me because they always have such a loss of time. Time is precious and we only get a certain amount. I just loved the flit from past to present and it just shakes you to know things could have been different. Love the siblings....I laughed to hard at the younger brother....wow.

Would I recommend or buy? Yes.yes.yes... This was great. I recommend, and I encourage you to buy. This was so good. I can’t think of the last time a second chance book got five stars. I loved this book.

Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your new release! Five huge stars of entertainment! I am hugely impressed. Love new authors!

Gabrielle really knows how to write characters that feel real—that feel like people you know, or want to know.
I appreciated how much Aaron tried keeping his word with Alane’s dad, and loved how she was the one who wanted to move things forward quicker. I instantly loved Luke and the entire Gritt family. Gabrielle pulled me in and had me wanting to move onto the farm and never leave this amazing group of people.
This is a phenomenal second chance romance!

Who thought that a book with a few ratings could be so good. I was expecting a cringe story but never underestimate a book by the cover.
I will probably give it 4.5☆. There are little things i didn't quite like. I have a problem with the 2 narative plans, present and past. I can't focus well on both, but it was needes to show us what the two characters went through. And the second this is that i wish Aaron fought a lot more for Alane and their love. I know he was young and maybe naive, manipulated by Alane's father, but he shouldn't have slept with Jessica if he loved Alane. But they were both young.

So let's start with the past.
Alane and Aaron are both in highschool, playing hockey. She is the captain of the team, so good at this sport. Very perseverent and working hard. They like each other, but don't know that. Alane thinks he is too cold and doesn't talk much with her, but the truth is that Aaron can't think straight when he is near her. Words can't come out his mouth and he blushes.
Luke is Aaron's brother. He is such a good friend and he helped them to be together. He watched Alane everyday playing and she thought that maybe he likes her. But he stayed there for his brother, analysing her, to see if she is a good match for him. At the end he tricked her so Aaron could practice with her. The couch was their dad and this is kind of a punishment for Aaron bc he got into a fight with a boy, bc Luke is gay and protected him. So it wasn't actualy a punishment to spend time with her.
" As usual, when my eyes meet hers, I’m transfixed.
My heart pounds, and the world disappears."
-He feels the same as her

Luke forgot his drawing notebook on the bench on purpose. So Alane went to their house to give it back. Aaron loves her breast and so does his little brother 5 years old, Barnabas. He kept saying he would marry her one day, he was so cute. He was jealous bc he wanted Alane to smile at him not Luke.
They got together quickly. But her father was the problem. He was a pastor and respected God will and protected his daughter's virginity. Wtf man you split them apart. Aaron even went to him to ask for permision to date Alane. He agreed in the beginning, but made him promise to not have sex with her.
Alane wasn't shy at all, especially around Aaron. She wanted to fuck him so bad. He was the one in control all the time and said no. They did other things, Alane was the one initiating. One day they were in his truck, in front of her house. The kisses got hot and she wanted Aaron to make her cum so she was in his lap, him hard. This girl had skills at dirty talk. They did it but her father wasn't stupid. He knew what they did. So he talked with Aaron. He had time until the end of the year to break uo with her and leave her live her dream.
Another thing they did was at the ball, they went to the bathroom and Alane wanted to try something new on Aaron. They went down on each other. Aaron was funny, he said that she is not the only one watching porn, he wasn't inoccent but tried to control. One day at his house things got hard. Both naked, he came on her but then she rubbed his cum inside her. Even if they havent had sex, she got pregnant in that moment.
Patricia, the bitch fake friend. She liked Luke but he was gay. All the time she was jealous seeing Alane and Aaron. Aaron told Alane to not tell her about them making out but she did it. And Patricia lied her father and Aaron was forced to break up with her. He had to leave for Seattle or she would be sent to her aunt. As i said, he gave up too easily. Alane was heartbroken, alone and pregnant. Her aunt took her and left together. No one knew about this baby. She tried to tell Aaron about the baby, but the fate was against her. Bc after 2 months she saw Aaron kissing Jessica at a meet book amd when Adam was born, she called him but Jess replied and told her she is the fiancee. Alane thought Aaron forgot her and he had a happy life. She didn't want to trap him.

So after 27 years, yesss that long. I didn't like that they were 44 years old, like not my thing, but i was surprised again, it wasn't awkward at all and just hot.
Alane was married and divorced Mark. Their sex life was kinky, bdsm and other stuff, but she got anxiety attacks and couldn't calm down.
On the other hand was Aaron, divorces as well with 2 kids, Hailey and Lawson. Jess was always gone and Aaron was the one taking care of the kids. He became a chef with a restaurant and Alane a teacher. Both of them in their marriage were thinking what-if they didn't break up and they would have been happy.
So back in town, Alane met Luke after a long time. They haven't talked at all bc she felt she couldn't hide Adam fron him without Aaron finding out. Luke has a boyfriend, Dex, a cool guy.
Alane was teaching where Aaron's kids were. And when Hailey lied about things Aaron came to talk with the teacher. He didn't recognize her at first but then he saw the star mark on the breast.
They were adults and things worked out. They talked and finally Alane found out the truth and why he left her.
Before that she was drunk at a bar and they had sex, first time ever on the table. It's still sad you know, bc Aaron gave his virginity to Jess after a short time when Alane begged him for months to fuck her.
Anyways they fucked a lot and Alane was teasing him with Barnabas, who grew up as well and was a charmant guy.
But the secret with Adam came out when her mother was at the hospital and Adam came too. He is the spliting image of his father. In that moment Luke, Aaron's parents started screaming and Alane was cornered. I appreciate that Aaron took Alane outside to talk but he couldn't forgive her. Adam is a good kid, really.
Well Aaron didn't talk with Alane again for a few months but Salome, who i thought was a spoiled brat, made him understand Alane and her decisions. All the time i hated Salome bc she wanted all.the attention being the only sister in the family and was soo attached to Aaron until he left for Seattle. She was silent and watched them all from the back,.but she always knew how bad they loved each other.

"She had let me have my dream while not following hers, except she had made one mistake.
My dream was a life with her, not becoming a chef."

“Alane, it’s on this rink exactly thirty years ago that I fell in love with you. You were lying down on the bench, raised on your elbows with your head tilted back, your hair falling like a golden waterfall."
At this point i started crying bc i couldn't hold it inside me. They went through lot of things and after 27 years their true love remained intact. It wasn't fair but that made them who they are in the present.

Now the sequel is about Salome and Christ. And hmm i think he is bi bc when they were teenagers he fucked around with Luke. And Salome had always a crush on him.
