-Tanner- She was beautiful. Loved. Strong. After hiding away for six months with just my dog to keep me company, I was forced out of the shadows only to end up in the arms of an enemy. Beatrix Lister saved my life. I had been taking care of myself for so long, I didn’t know how to ask for help, but she refused to go down without a fight. She was warm where I was frigid. She was kind and caring where I was a cold-blooded monster. I did things to survive. I battled the evils of the world to live. I didn’t deserve her heart but fell in love with her anyway. As much as I wanted to be with her, I needed answers and I would do anything to get them. Even if it meant breaking the heart of the only woman I had ever loved. ~ -Bee- He was lonely. Intense. Brave. Tanner Horsch came into my life unexpectedly. He was like a tornado, ripping up everything in its path. There was something about him that I craved. His touch. His words. His need to survive. But as we were getting to know each other, he still had walls up. He refused to let me in knowing my family didn’t approve of him. I refused to let him go. After being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he escaped and eventually he ran right into my arms. He was the villain of someone else’s story, but he was the hero of mine. I just prayed that he could see that not all monsters are truly evil. Before it was too late, and he gave himself to the enemy. My family.
J.M. Walker, a Canadian author, is an Amazon bestseller who also hit USA Today with Wanted: An Outlaw Anthology. She loves all things books, pigs and lip gloss. She is happily married to the man who inspires all of her Heroes and continues to make her weak in the knees every single day.
"Above all, be the HEROINE of your own life..." ~ Nora Ephron
Well we all (who've been reading this series) know how Tanner was portrayed before, and I admit I fell for it. But here in his own story, the script is flipped. Suddenly I'm seeing him in a whole new light. Bee, the darling of the MC, will be the one to see the real man inside the darkness. But the question is, will they make it through to the other side? Or will outside forces have their way with them?
My God, but I was sooooo upset at about 12% of Being Us!! But in true J.M. style, she wrote her way out of the rabbit hole, and I wasn't mad at her anymore by the end. I can't give away too much about Tanner and Bee, so I'll just say that their story is signature J.M. - dark and gritty, fast-paced, sexy, with a whole hell of a lot going on, but though the tone was heavy, it was never so dark I felt that it was hopeless. I love how we got to see the real Tanner, that he was actually an interesting, layered, likable man, and how well Bee, sheltered, lovely Bee, was his perfect complement.
Every book JM writes is better than the last. I’m serious. She has a way of sucking you into a story that you can’t help but get lost in. I’m not talking about just a story, the characters she writes are so well developed, so detailed, so emotional, you also can’t help but feel everything they feel. Whether it’s pain, anger, love, it’s all there.
As I patiently waited for Being Us to hit my kindle, I was mentally preparing myself for Tanner. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that his story was going to be an emotional one. I was warned beforehand, but it wasn’t enough to prepare me for the emotional turmoil JM’s words would put me through.
All her books, especially her MC books, keep you so close to the edge of your seat, it’s a wonder you don’t fall off constantly. Her worlds fill you with anxiety on what’s going to happen next, but you keep reading because you can’t stop. There’s nothing else worth doing in your life until you find out whether someone lives or dies. Fictionally speaking, of course.
I don’t know what else to say except, if you’re reading this review, chances are you’ve read the other books before this one. Do not miss this one at all. Tanner is beautifully broken, deliciously damaged, yet someone you just can’t help but fall in love with as soon as you read the first page.
When the villain becomes the hero. When he’s tortured but redeemable. When he’s cruel but honorable. When he’s cold but warm with her. When she sees through his darkness. When she learns her strength. When she stands tall. When she grows her wings and flies straight for him. When they find each other. When they search for the truth. When they fight for each other. When they love. That is Being Us.
I hated Tanner after Sonny, Shade, and Meadow's book and I don't think I'm alone in that. Tanner seemed to be the villain but in this book we find out Tanner is more than he seems. He has been on the run and injured, when he stumbles into Bee's backyard.
From the first time they set eyes on one another their chemistry burned hot and they were drawn to each other. Bee was his protector and because of her he survived.
Tanner's human side really came out during this book with both Bee and the way he treated Trigger. I loved seeing that Tanner wasn't all evil and had some humanity left in him. Also Bee didn't try to change him. She loved and accepted him for who he was.
We got to see several of the characters from the first gen books. I loved seeing how protective they were of Bee and honestly I was shocked at how openly they allowed Tanner into Bee's life.
In this installment you will be in tears by chapter 3 but by the end this will all be worth it. This author has a twisted , evil genius of a mind that is addictive once you give her a chance.
Fast pace, mild angst with heartbroken moments and lots of cursing the author cause how can she be??!!! I mean, I'm afraid of dogs but even I can't imagine the evil of people doing that to dog! Gaaah! This author is an a-hole for making me cry in that particular scene.
Anyway.... Being Us is Tanner and Bee's story. Busy, as Tanner call her is a biker princess. The only girl and the youngest family member, she's protected. Sheltered. Sweet and innocent. Virgin. While Tanner. He's the evil everyone know. His reputation preceded him. But no body question who is the man before the evil was born. Until Busy touch the little boy in him and love the man for who he is.
Fast pace, it only take days for them to fall in love hard. I can feel Tanner pain of all that ever happened in his life. The abuse. The pain for Trigger, his dog. The loneliness in his soul. His story makes me angry and sad. Applause for the author magic way of writing. The steamy scenes? I may or may not rub one or two for Tanner is dirty and Busy is...busy lol And for the dark and gory of MC life? Yep, Tanner definitly prove how he got the reputation.
As you may have surmised, I did not read the first series, nor the other books in this spin-off. Do I think it impacts the way I view this book? Yes, it totally does, if I have to go by the rest of the glowing reviews. So if you are a fan of the series and its storylines, my review is not for you.
So, this is a slow burn romance. And I have to disagree with the many reviews that talk about fast paced as that was not my impression. The start of the book was great. And then this weird almost unbelievable co-incidence with Tanner stumbling into the backyard of Bee's parents' house - and everyone is connected - so many people and connections! An it is here in the middle of the book that everything got SLOW! Slow building of heat, molasses slow movement on the action/suspension element. I lost all respect for Tanner's supposed alpha/badboy persona here. He acted like a scared 15 year old.
So in all a technically well written book, with a great start and premise but lacking something that could make the story zing.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Being Us by J.M.Walker I Give this book a 3-3.5/5, Listing as 3. HEA(?): Yes. Relationship Type: MF Drama: This book is a lot more ‘sweeter’ type of note than I was expecting, I was expecting more conflict/drama. 3.5/5 Suspense: 3.5-4/5 Pacing: I have to say this book is remarkably fast paced, I really wished it wasn’t, it definitely too away from the story, at least for me. Fast Paced Romance(?): I would classify it as that, yes. I didn’t really feel anything between them for a large percent of the book. Yes, I could clearly read/see it, But in all honesty the interest kinda felt forced (to me) most of the time. Heat: 3/5 Dark(?): Dark-Lite, 2-2.5/5
Oh my. What a rollercoaster ride that was. Tanner and Busy were meant to be together, but there is so much against them. From their first meeting, and the lead up to it, we were given a glimpse of how difficult it was going to be.
I was in tears by the end of chapter 3, and never really stopped again til the end.
So much happened in this story and many questions from the previous book were answered, which hopefully helped Meadow.
I cant say enough about this book, other than grab a bottle, get settled in and enjoy the ride.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Intense Emotional Beautiful
Those are just a few words that come to mind when thinking about this book. I've always been a fan of redeeming a villain from a previous story but this...this was something all together different. Is he really a villain or is he just misunderstood?
Tanner is a serious bada$$. He is tortured and broken and has had to fight his entire life. After reading With Us and experiencing that.....situation.....I was hesitant to actually like Tanner but I've always felt like there was something he wasn't sharing or something we didn't know about. JM does an amazing job peeling back all his layers and revealing what's really important.
Bee is such a beautiful character. She is sheltered and slightly naïve but she isn't stupid or weak. When she has something to fight for her strength is unparalleled and she will fight for those that she loves and considers family.
This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster but like all JM books, she manages to tell their story flawlessly. It's not always pretty but it's honest and real and exactly what they need.
From the first time I heard about Tanner I was determined to hate him, but JM managed to make me love him. He rescues dogs and gives to the homeless, and he loves with his whole being. I loathed what I thought he did but after learning the truth I couldn’t wait for his revenge. Bee is just the women to bring him to his knees often!! Two thumbs way up!!!!
I absolutely loved this book, if i could give it more than 5 stars i would! A few chapters in and i was already in tears omg! These days a slow burn story is rare, but finding a slow burn story that is not boring and has you so into it that you dont realize your 60% into it before they have sex is even harder to find. It was amazing and i will add it to my top favorites for sure
Good Lord Almighty does this woman know how to rip your soul to shreds and put it back together again...... SLOWLY!!!!! I know I have probably stated that I LOVE JM Walker and her stories before but its worth repeating over and over again, she give us broken alpha men that we want to put in our back pocket and protect them, AND OMG..... Tanner is the epitome of an alpha male something inside of him has been damaged for so long he isn't sure it can be repaired, that is until he literally stumbles into Bea and we are transported on an emotional roller coaster to top ALL roller coasters. These stories can be read as a standalone, but I HIGHLY suggest reading King's Harlots and Hell's Harlem series!!! Seeing all of these characters children all grown is like we all had a front row seat to them throughout their entire life and It is amazing to see the characters we came to love in the other series! And talk about crossovers O.M.G I love love LOVE when authors have cameos of characters from other stories but ya don't know until it slams ya in the face and it is the BEST feeling ever!!! Ok I digress, Being Us is slow burn emotionally charged story that kick you on your tush, leave ya panting and POSSIBLY cussing out the author because you are in tears and just threw you kindle across the room, nevertheless, Being Us is totally worth every emotion that Mrs. Walker drags out of us and she always leaves you yearning for more!!
Tanner had me intrigued since first being introduced to him. So getting all his story had me thrilled. Jeez and what a story he has! Being Us absolutely shredded me. I was an emotional mess while reading it. There is so much more to Tanner than what he portrays. The cocky arrogant tough guy. Is just a fraction of his persona. Underneath all that confidence lies fractures a mile wide. Bee is freaking awesome! I loved her! She’s kind and compassionate. Yet brave and courageous. Growing up around bikers she’s sheltered and watched over constantly. But she knows what she wants and doesn’t let anyone intimidate her. Most of all her biker family. Now Tanner and Bee together are an explosive duo! Their chemistry, their bond and their powerful connection can be felt immediately. Wow it was all consuming and electrifying! The lust between them is sizzling hot. But beyond the lust the magnetic force that they have for one another is incredible! It just comes to life and vibrants off the pages. Ms. Walker has outdone herself with Being Us. I’ll probably say the same thing again with the next book I read by her. She is just incredible with her storytelling. When an author can take a character that seems such a villain and turn him into someone you fall in love with, well that’s pure talent! That is a testament to her writing and to her talent. This book was so emotional. It was gut wrenching and put me through the wringer. But when I got to “The End” I was happy and content.
Trigger warning- rape of a teenage boy & murdered pet dog.
We know Tanner from Shade/Sunny & Meadows story, he was the one harassing Meadow. We we’ll be getting his side of the events that took Sunny out. His reputation is 90% made up but he did do things that he ‘should’ be in prison for, hint; it involves his rape as a 15 year old in his Aunt & Uncle’s house. In my opinion he wouldn’t be seeing hard time just some juvie for the hell he was put through. Anyways after Sunny’s death, he hid since his so called club turned against him and wanted him taken out. While in hiding he rescued a elderly shepard he named Trigger. Trigger was murdered right in front of Tanner while he himself was stabbed also, by members of his old club. That became the catalyst of how he walked for hours into a backyard of of Tray Lister while Bee was brewing in anger because of her twin cousins. When Tanner was Bee and when Bee saw Tanner they would become inseparable. But will her uncles of 2 different clubs, Mayhem’s Revenge & Hell’s Harlem plus her over protective father including every member of the clubs protect her from Tanner’s darkness or will they allow Tanner into their fold to get the answers he’s been seeking to clear the air and to give people the closure of the pain the he accidentally brought into their lives??.
I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.
I have read a few of J.M. Walker's books like the Hell's Harem series. This is the first book in the Next Generation series so I had no preconceived notion of Tanner. He initially does come off as a bad boy villain of sorts. However once I read about Trigger, his dog I knew he couldn't be all bad.
Trigger warnings for violence against humans and pets and abuse. In J.M. Walker's books I have learned that she doesn't hold back. She pulls every emotion out of her readers. This story is no exception.
Bee definitely comes across as younger than she is. It's probably because she is so sheltered by everyone. Tanner is the first one who sees her as a woman with opinions of her own that he will listen to. She sees Tanner as someone worthy of love.
The story has a few slow spots but overall it moves at a good pace. It kept my attention and had me hoping for a happily ever after. It does. I enjoyed (that just doesn't sound right considering the heavy topics at play) the book and would recommend it.
This is the first book by JM Walker that I have read and after reading Being Us I have gone back and purchased the first three books in the series. This is a standalone and is listed as both book 4 in Hells Harlem and book 1 in the Next Generation, I don't think the first three are necessary to understand the family dynamic. This story is about Bee (Busy), the daughter of Tray and Zillah - Book 2, she is an MC princess who has been sheltered from her family's business and protected by all the men around her. Tanner has been beaten down by life and is the president of a rival MC when he is ousted by another member and is hiding in order to try to figure out what has happened. Busy and eventually her family end up helping him out. This was a a bit of an insta-love situation but due to Busy's nativity and innocence the build-up to the steam in the book is a slow burn. The chemistry between the two is off the charts, your heart breaks for Tanner when you learn his story and you are rooting for him throughout the book to overcome his past. Well done.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was so excited when I found out that JM walker was writing Tanner's book. I wanted to know more as soon as he was introduced in With Us. With a father like his, you know his past won't be pretty.
I absolutely loved Tanner and Bee's story. They were perfect for each other. She brought the light to his dark world.
Bee is the youngest of the Hell's Harlem kids, and the only girl. Even though she is the youngest, she isn't afraid to stand up to anyone. I absolutely loved her.
Tanner feels like he is a monster, and doesn't deserve her. He has a tragic past, and it's caused him not to trust anyone. He only trusts animals because they are the only ones that have never hurt him.
Their chemistry was everything. This is definitely a slowburn, but it was perfect for their relationship.
This was my favorite of the series so far. I cannot wait for more. Cryus and Sammy really have me intrigued. I cannot wait for their stories.
I definitely recommend this book and this series!!!

Beatrix or Bee or Johnny and now Busy, brought up by an over protective group of people, that are her fathers friends, never can catch a break! After her cousins drag her out of bar, while she's having a night out with her girls and drop her off at home, well what's a girl to do? Save a guy in her backyard, whose been stabbed? Sure why not! Tanner is in hiding, because he saw something, he shouldn't have. As the leader of a rival Biker club, he knew he was setup for a fall! So after his dog was stabbed and killed he had to run again. Tanner doesn't no where to turn, so he went to the rival club, big risk or salvation? But for Busy, he'd do anything! She's the only one who has ever made him feel this way, ways he's never thought he could! While the story is a stand alone, I loved how it tied up loose ends for another couple, Tanner had a horrible past, that he finally had someone he could trust enough to share with, no judgement, not pity. just there for him! A must read story, by a must read Author J.M Walker!
I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. My first book with this series was With Us and it tore my heart out of my chest and left me a bawling mess. Tanner was not a likable character at all the first time I met him. We learned snippets of his story but not enough for him to be a redeeming at the time. In this book he and Bee give us their love story. She is the light to his dark, the good to his bad. She sees him as her perfect man because she sees him and accepts him with his flaws. He knows that he does not deserve her but he sure does love how she makes him feel. When push comes to shove she will do everything she can to save him from himself and the real monsters. I am glad I continued with reading this series. This story was again very well written. I will continue reading books by this author because she can create a world that will pull every emotion from you.

WARNING: Please be advised that there are scenes in this book that mention past child abuse and trauma. If you have triggers, please read with caution.
I am really never mentally prepared to read a J.M. Walker story…and Being Us….WOW! Once again Ms. Walker grabbed my heart and didn’t let it go until the last page.
This story of Beatrix (Bee/Busy) Lister and Tanner Horsch pulled every emotion right out of me. When Trigger died (and this just proves that no one is safe in Ms. Walkers stories) I was bawling. Why? Why Trigger?….ugh.
You would think that Tanner and Bea are an unlikely couple, but they are one of the best couples out there! He is dark to her light…. He is a loner to her life filled with family/friends…. He is hard around the edges…she is soft around hers, but both could and did stand strong for one another! Their chemistry is fantastic!
In Tanner’s quest to find answers and with his bad boy background I was expecting a little more drama and/or conflict, but glad things turned out like they did!
I swear the books in this series just keep getting better and better. Tanner was the villain that everyone hated in the last book but by the end of this book you can’t help but love him. With most everyone around him he is cold and uncaring but he takes the time to rescue dogs and give dispense justice to those who hurt them. When the unimaginable happens to his dog and Tanner is hurt, he stumbles into Bee’s backyard. There is just something about him that calls to her so she agrees to patch him up. From there it takes you on a journey to get the answers you were looking for from the previous book while Tanner shows Bee the softer side of himself and helps he learn to be strong and stand up for what she believes in. I love the fact that so much of the stories with the kids also involve the parents so we get a glimpse of some of our favorites form the original series as well. I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us.
ok stop here if you haven't read the first 3 books in the next generation series go back start again.... your going to really want to they all have something in them to add to the story as the time line moves on.
now saying that I hope you have kleenex on hand your going to need it. yes JM has put the feels and then some in the book. though I don't recommend throwing your book or e reader because you know your going to want to at some point. I know I did.
but really this book is a Rollercoaster of feeling and well activity as well. tanner and bee's story is something that you would never expect but the way they fall in love with each other is worth reading. your going to get some answers if you read the other books but your also going to have more questions too but that's the good thing because your going to have a heck of a ride reading this one. I can't wait to see what comes up next in this series
I am So honored to read BEING US. Tanner is the kind of man that wants your anger and dislike but I can't. He's too good under that brokenness. His heart is pure yet others are not allowed to see it.
Busy aka Bee has absolutely no idea that helping a stranger is the smartest move she ever did. Oh my heart still can't get over this book. I love these characters. Their love despite it moving fast, is authentic and real. It calls to true romance fans that feel everything moves to put the pieces needed in your life on your plate. It takes two to make the pieces work.
If you love the kind of characters who will tear you up and stay with you hours after reading that you need Tanner and Bee in your reader.
Form an opinion on Tanner and he'll surprise you in the most unexpected ways. Bee is the right woman for him because she gets to see the real man not an illusion. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
This is another fantastic story that will tug on your emotions, shock you at times with certain revelations, and keep you utterly captivated that you will immerse yourself into the story forgetting that it is not real.
Tanner and Bee’s story is gritty, raw and heartfelt. Tanner has a dark past and lots of demons he is running from. He has never found that one person who gets him and can calm his anxiety, that is until he meets Bee. The first time that Tanner and Bee see each other it was like their souls were crying out to their other half (finally). They have this unexplainable pull towards one another that is undeniable. Bee has the uncanny ability to know exactly what Tanner needs just by looking at him. Their story was a beautiful thing to read.
With action, suspense, thrills, a little romance and some murder and mayhem, this story will keep you captivated and highly entertained right to the very beautiful and amazing ending.
Tanner has always been seen as the bad guy and that was fine with him. But now he's found someone that makes him want to be better. Can he find a way to be better? Bee has always been sheltered. Being the baby, growing up in a biker family has left her a bit naive. But when a bleeding man ends up begging for help she can't say no. And now against all her family's objections she's falling for the bad guy. Can they find a future?
Another wonderfully exciting book by J.M. Walker. There are always surprises you never saw coming. And occasionally a time or two you want to kill the author. But you always see how it couldn't be any other way. This series has me so evolved with the characters. I laugh with them, cry with them, and celebrate with them. I cant wait to see what comes out of J.M. Walkers mind next.
Wow, after reading this I definitely need to go back and catch up from the very beginning with the parents' stories! What an intense story with Tanner and Busy/Bea. You wouldn't think these two would go together, with Tanner being so emotionally closed off and not trusting anyone due to his childhood history and Bea growing up in a family that kept her sheltered from anything bad or unpleasant. Even though the male members of her family tried to keep her protected like that, she was a pretty strong young lady and once she set her mind on something, she wasn't going to be deterred. When Bea decided Tanner was it for her, she was going to do everything she could to help him. I can't wait to read the rest in this series!

JM always sucks you in from the very first page and keeps you glued to the last. Being Us was such a powerful read! It showed how a person does what he needs, in order to survive and how stories and rumors can take a shape of there own and turn a person into more of a monster than they really are, because most of the time the things that were done were for survival and after awhile they start to feel undeserving of anything or anyone good in their life, until someone crosses paths with them and turns their world upside down and starts to show them they are deserving of friendship, kindness and the stability of love and they can be that person's monster in a good way. This book has some sensitive topics, so be aware.
Let's start with saying I truly do love JM Walker and I truly love her books, ALL of them. That being said, she just about completely killed me with this one. The Next Generation series is really a beautiful series but Being Us has been the most emotional so far I think. This is Bee and Tanner's story and I don't get too far in before I was furious and heartbroken over Trigger. Then we go further into their journey and oh my gosh, Tanner is so utterly beautiful, tragic, broken and damaged. This story absolutely deserves more than 5 stars and it's definitely a journey you don't want to miss. Hats off to JM Walker for yet another exceptionally beautiful read.
I am shredded! Tanner and Bea really made my heart cry and my soul soar! These two have been searching for so long! This is one AMAZING book and the fact that this crossover has been in the making for so long! I cried happy tears at the end! Yes! It is not shameful for me to admit that I have waited for this story! I cried and I know you will come to love these characters as I have! Get this book but I warn you your heart will never be the same! I highly recommend this! Everything will come and you will be left satisfied.
