Their first dinner conversation created such a bond that Alexis wishes she wasn't taking Sam's money and both of them can't stop thinking about each other. So why were we only shown the before and after of such an important conversation. The whole relationship builds on the first magical meeting which the author didn't deem necessary to share. After that the book is filled with childish misunderstandings and drama.

My worst fear in life is my wife or my kid dying. I don’t know how I’d survive that. So I had a hard time at first with this book. I could totally see Sam literally dying of a broken heart.
Sam’s wife Lucia died two years ago and Sam hasn’t been really living since. When her assistant suggests she spends time with an escort, Sam balks but can’t help checking the website out. One of the women, Alexis, catches her eye and Sam decides to try dinner and conversation. But there’s a lot more to Alexis than her escort persona and despite herself, Sam slowly comes back to life.
The author touches on very sensitive issues (death, abuse, prostitution) in a rather delicate manner. This is not a light read in any way but it’s very moving and doesn’t leave the reader with a heavy feeling either.

I read that others liked this book very much. Though I tried I could not like it at all. At about 40% of the book I decided I didn’t want to spend any more of my time and energy on it. It’s not badly written, but the book feels very artificial to me. Main character Sam has lost her wife, but despite the first part of the book being about her trauma, it was telling the reader about it, but not showing and letting the reader be part of the feeling too. Add to that the inexplicable, inconsistent and abrupt steps Sam takes in getting to know Luciana and the way their relationship develops after they were instantly attracted to each other. The result was that I did not enjoy this book at all and did not finish it. 2 stars.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised to see a "To Be Continued" at the end.

The reviews for this book have been all over the place. Some loved it while others thought it was a waste of time. Looks like I fall right in the middle. Story of my life as a bisexual [insert eye roll].
Sam's character arc of learning to say goodbye, letting go and finding the courage to start a new life with someone else was the best part of this book. She came a really long way from being a bitter and angry person to slowly becoming the woman she used to be who's dependable and courageous enough to become a safe haven for her girlfriend.
Sadly said girlfriend's character arc is the part of the book that's my least favorite. I really liked her character in the beginning since she never gave up on Sam and really fought to give their relationship a chance. All that went out the window however as soon as a certain ex client showed up. This normally strong character was reduced to a pile of jello!
This book had a lot of potential but the constant back and forth between the main characters became very tiresome after the first half a dozen times. Sadly the secondary characters with their hot and cold act were no help either in making this book more enjoyable.
The final thing that I don't understand is why an act of sexual and physical abuse was glossed over. That's not something you slap a bandage on and then move on like nothing happened. I hope this issue gets picked up in the second book because I am not ok with the way it was handled at all.
I'm definitely curious about the continuation of this story, let's hope the story lines are a little more straightforward than they were in this first book.

Normally I don’t write how I feel about a book and I just rate them, but this book is too amazing not to say something. It took me on a roller coaster of emotions and I couldn’t put the book down at all even if I tried. There were some spelling mishaps but I hardly noticed because I was so sucked into the story. I can’t wait for the next book!

The premise intrigued me. Widowed property developer Sam has been alone for 2 years since her wife’s death. On a whim she hires an escort for dinner and conversation. And the first 25% of the book were interesting and engaging as escort Alexis and Sam meet and hit it off.
And then it went downhill. I guess like the trifle Rachel made in Friends, with cream, custard, jam and ground beef gravy... it was all fine in the first layers, until you hit the gravy and want to spit it out.
The first taste of the beef sauce with the sweet dessert comes in the form of a minor plot twist that is so ridiculous that you couldn’t even imagine it in a soap opera. I actually exclaimed FFS at that point and then had to explain the plot twist to my poor wife. She LOVES things like Greys Anatomy and sich and even she guffawed at this. And the next 70% of your reading time will be filled with ridiculous angst, flouncing off at the slightest misunderstanding, breakups over... nothing... but strangely not over being really let down, personality changes in both MCs that are so frequent and baffling that I lost track, and some violent and coercive sex thrown in for good measure (not between the MCs and largely ‘off-camera’). Oh, and absolute instalove. Two dinners and I can’t live without you? Puulease!

1.5 stars, I really didn't like this book. This was damn near a DNF at 4 different intervals. The book seems to be a jumbled concoction of stereotypical plots & storylines, each one contributing to the overall mess that is the final product.
The main character Sam is 37, & had a wife named Lucia who passed away in a tragic accident 2 years ago. Distraught with grief, she's abandoned their home & has taken up residence in an apartment in the city. She is a workaholic who hides from the world. Her secretary Cheryl suggests she needs human companionship & she should hire an escort. She debates this as she's still pining for her dead wife. Enter "Alexis" the escort she hires (who is 25) but doesn't want to be with, partly due to their age difference. Sam is rude & tells her she's married. Over a few dates, they start to like each other, Alexis quits the escort service & works only at her real job at the firehouse. They date until Alexis tells her, her real name is Luciana. How convenient it uses nearly identical to dead wife. Sam can't take it,enter angst, breakups, etc.. Que external motivation, an old patron contacts Alexis & hurts her (BDSM & choking (obviously😉). This patron is a business associate of Sam. Sam threatens her, ie dashing savior complex. More family angst, a trip to Sam's original home , happy ending, etc. end of book. I've wasted my time, so please don't waste yours. Sorry to be so harsh in the review.

Do I love to read about adults? No.
Do I like big age gap? Absolutely not.
Did I know they will be adult adults? No.
Have I regretted reading it? Also no.
It was refreshing to see two mature-thinking person solving their issues, and I particulary liked the grieving part, the fact that Alexis accepted without question that Sam will always love her wife and that rather than obeying the parents like all the books out there, they said fuck no, we are adults, you can't tell us what to do.
If the 'falling in love with an escort' premise interests anyone, I recommend Love Starved, too. That one was written in a more emotional way in my opinion.

One interesting read! Alexis working as a high-class social escort is one that she kept on a side; an avenue for her to meet ladies, wined & dined, get laid and paid at the end of it - now who is to say she can’t have her cake and eat it too! And that is how she met Sam, lonely high-powered business femme. You wouldn’t have guessed that Alexis career is that of a firefighter! Mixed these 2 and Hotness is what you get! Just when all is well, book throws you a curveball in the form of an ex-client of Alexis who can’t take No as an answer and seem to have control over her. Book ends with a ‘TBC’....and I look forward to the continuation of Sam and Alexis’ story!

Two very insecure women, with a ton 'o baggage between them, meet under less than ideal circumstances. Insert a long list of stumbling blocks to their future as a couple. I liked the book and will be very interested in the next installment. An excellent lesbian romance clock full of feelings and an unusual pathway to the biggest or scariest emotion of them all.

September 23, 2022Oi, I tried real hard on this audiobook but just could not get past the flat, robotic narrator, or the childish miscommunications, nor the incredible coincidences that were way overdone. Maybe I could have finished it if I didn't choose the audiobook, but it still would not have changed the story. I managed to get through just over half before giving up, as I can see where this is going and it's unfortunate the characters, nor the plot, just didn't hold my interest. Too bad!

DNF. I was hesitant to read this book due to the mixed reviews but then the audio version was on scribd, so I figured why not? It was interesting enough to keep me engaged at first. Unfortunately, around the 35% mark the constant back-and-forth - stay, no go, NO STAY! - behavior from the mains started to get tiresome. And then came a left-field “plot twist” of a very one-dimensional villain showing up out of nowhere and turning the sassy “Alexis” into a quaking victim. There had been no buildup or indication that she’d ever undergone any sort of abuse, and the story that eventually gets told of her history with her abuser is a little thin. Then an unnecessary assault follows that is absolutely horrific. But overall it’s treated alarmingly casually.
That’s where I just had to stop listening. I am so tired of rape being used as a plot device in fiction. Like, SO. TIRED. It’s one of the greatest violations that can happen to someone; not a “plot twist” that should be used to serve no other purpose than to ratchet up the drama or give one character an excuse to be a White Knight; please, writers of the world - find other ways to tell your stories! 😩

A rich businesswoman mourning the loss of the love of her life has become something of a social recluse. An escort who unexpectedly burrows deeper into the ‘dead’ heart. Not exactly a ground-breaking premise. But oh-so-well-told!

This book frustrated me. It has so much potential, the author is a good writer, and I really wanted to love this. I had a lot of empathy for Sam, especially at the beginning, and at first Alexis/Luciana was really fun. The first frustration came in the back and forth for both of them. With Sam it was more understandable, but her quick flash mood changes got really frustrating. Go away, Alexis, come back Alexis, why did you come back go away again, no wait come back, stay forever except GO AWAY. I felt like I was getting whiplash. Then 'Alexis' started doing the same damn thing and I wanted to scream. Then all the sudden PermaMoodSwing Sam took over and all the sudden she was all in, totally committed and it was too sudden without a real event to prompt such a shift. I started to not believe it and that's not fun when you're reading a romance novel.
Then the horror, the freaking horror of Janet. God, I hate Janet. I hate what she did but I also hate that she's a cartoonish villain who feels like she was introduced to only put a wedge in between 'Alexis' and Sam. And ugh - SPOILER ALERT SPOILERY SPOILERS COMING - I HATE HATE HATE rape being used as a plot device. And it was straight up violent rape no matter how the main characters themselves tried to downplay it. It could have been done so differently. Life as an escort is scary and dangerous. The whole Janet thing could have really illustrated that but instead it felt like a thing that happened to make us see 'Alexis' as a victim and allow Sam her White Knight moment. Also I hated the way that 'Alexis's whole personality changed with Janet. Yes, you're going to act different with your long time abuser then you are with other people but that's not what this felt like. It felt forced and not real. And I'll pretty much bet you that Janet is coming back in book two to once again endanger 'Alexis' and Sam once again has to play hero (and who wants to bet that weak little Alexis finally stands up to her Big Bad?)
I'm gritting my teeth; I'm that frustrated. Yes, it's a trope. But who cares if we're reading a trope that has been done over and over if it's done well? And it's just not here and I'm mad about it because I can see this author's talent and I want to see her raise this bar.

From escort to happily together
As an escort, she's Alexis, as a fire fighter, she's Luciana. Sam met Alexis and wanted dinner and conversation. Luciana wanted to be with Sam. Knowing she had to make changes for that to happen, she was more than ready. As they both had histories that needed to evolve, they found out that together, anything was possible. Sam and Luciana are a beautiful couple, 13 years different is just a number. Daily stresses help them navigate their lives. Melissa Tereze created heartfelt characters that give this relationship a chance. I love the out of mold romance story, where the angst is in the beginning and initial part of the relationship not something that happens later in the book, causing a separation. So happy there is a sequel. Can't get enough of Luciana and Sam.

As I might have said here before, with only three books of hers I read, she's become one of my four top favourite authors. Seeing and hearing her on the GCLS Vroom event also helped a lot.
The arrangement is playing a reasonably common trope, but so far I have read only one other novel, that rivals all I find here, too, a highly inventive plot, fantastic writing, incredibly well worked characters who are almost instantly lovable, an age difference that doesn't matter to either of both women and neither does the fact, that they meet through one being an escort at the time of their first encounter. The other book I am talking about is in French called "Escorte Moi". Both are slow moving delicate romances with meddling friends and former lovers and in both cases it is the maturity of the ladies involved, that helps them finding one another in the end.
I had not even the slightest doubt in both cases to happily click the five stars. "The Arrangement" definitively is an absolute must read in my opinion. If you actually read French, don't miss "Escorte Moi" either.

This was an interesting and unusual read.
Sort of a dark "Pretty Woman".
You have a grief stricken widow, a professional escort/fire fighter, a violent S&M client, ex-addict sister, unpleasant mother and a pleasant mother.
All this mixed into a slow burn love and an awakening heart and ends as you might expect....happily.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator, Cat Gould, was very good, with one exception. The 2 MC's were 37 and 25 but the narration made them sound much older. Sort of in their 50's.

After reading 'Before you go' by the same Author, I was curious to know Sam's story and checked out blurbs of the Author's books to find out if any book had her story... luckily I didn't have to search long.
This story is about loss and the perhaps fated instances that life gives if we only take action. It was a sweet tale that impressed on me and i was left wondering if Sam is this way on her second chance how was she in her first one...Any story on that?
On a confusing note for me is my perception of Sam and Luciana in 'Before you go' and in this book...they seem different. I imagined Sam being more butch and Luciana pretty femme but in this book it seems Sam is the femme and Luciana more or less both... Also I kinda wondered if Sam was obsessed with her first wife having her second wife namesake, glad in this book that reason was shared.
In all an enjoyable read. It so happens this a series, so their story seems to continue in another book.

Hmmmmm.
I really wanted to like this one. With all the positive reviews I couldn’t wait to read this but.. I felt I couldn’t connect with the characters. They’re too fickle and too annoying.
With Sam I really wanted to understand that she lost her wife.. but half of the story I felt like her wife(Lucia) is still there. She compares everything to her that’s why I can’t feel her chemistry with Alexis/Luciana.
There’s too much push and pull that I was already started to get annoyed.
I wanted to DNF this but I just can’t give up.

This was my first book from this author and I don't regret reading it at all, it should come with warnings though cause there are some heavy topics mentioned. Both MCs were well written and it's easy to let yourself get sucked in especially with the kind of emotions felt in this book.
Can't wait to read what's gonna happen next in this story. I'd read it again even with the hard stuff and all cause in the end both characters grew stronger together. I recommend this book
Can't wait to read what's gonna happen next in this story. I'd read it again even with the hard stuff and all cause in the end both characters grew stronger together. I recommend this book

An Emotional but beautiful ride!
A great book that I enjoyed getting lost in. I am excited about the sequel, 'The Call' to be released in a few months because I just need more from Sam and Alexis.

By far one of the best books i have read so far. The minute i started reading it, i could not put it down. It sucked me in and i finally fished it within a days time. I was so captured by it i was reading the book while "working" but no one needs to know that. Can not wait for the next book :)

Confusing writing style, I really loved the story and characters but there was too many things left in the air I think...but there will be a sequel so maybe then.

The first half of this book was pretty decent, but the MCs' push-and-pull got old early. Idk what happened in the second half, because OMG the dialogues turned corny when they became vocal about their feelings... even during sex!
Eww.. who talks like that?
At one point, Alexis got uncharacteristically submissive. Idk where that came from and I don't understand it. I really don't.
Oh, and I should probably warn you... a sexual assault happened. Why didn't this book come with a warning about that? Well, it was masked as BDSM. Trust me. It wasn't BDSM. The perpetrator was even described as "demanding." F that. She was ABUSIVE.
Also, Alexis’ reaction for not being invited to lunch with Sam’s mom was juvenile. Uhm, hello?! You guys have only been dating for roughly two weeks!
In one scene, Alexis cursed under her breath right in front of Sam's family. *LOL* Classy.
Anyway, I still can't get over the dialogues in the second half. Idk what prompted me to finish this.

As this was my first of Melissa's work I read I went in very open, not certain of what kind of story to expect. Maybe a sexy age gap romance with a hint of depth? But what I found was a beautiful and moving story with so much heart.
Sam and Alexis' lives mirrored one another's in what they wanted and expected at the time they met, but in finding each other they began to question those expectations completely.
This is a beautiful story of love at any stage of life and if finding confidence in oneself and comfort in another.

I love romances with age gap but this one just didn't do it for me. The author didn't spent a lot of time developing the romance. The main characters barely talked but we're instantly in love. And then we were flooded with constant problems standing in the way of their relationship. Not my kind of story.

Loved this book! I couldn’t put it down! There was lots of baggage and emotions involved. I always say people come into your life for a reason. This book has that and more. I can’t wait to see where this goes!
