Motherless at 10. Sexually exploited at 15. Drug dealer at 17. Gang raped at 18. Drawing herself up by her bootstraps was her only option. Kimberly Miles worked her way up the ladder of corporate sales only to discover another male supervisors stalking female underlings. Living the Me Too movement before it had a name, she was determined to do more than stand by. Now, as the owner of her own company which bills millions annually, she's set up the B.E.A.S.H.E.R.O Foundation, which seeks to help sexually-exploited teenage girls get off the streets of Las Vegas, teach them a viable skill and see they become independent members of society. Here is her story on how she went from a zero to a SHERO!
I absolutely loved this book and I share it with the families and teens I work with, who are in similar situations as the author describes in her memoir. The inspiration comes flowing thru right as you being the first chapter. Kimberley has an amazing story, one that must be shared and one that can definitely be learned from and used to help others. I think this is a book for every woman and teen! To all of your success Kimberly Miles! Thank you for writing this to taking the time to help and heal others!
A third of the way through the book, I lowered my head and sobbed. No child should ever have to endure this. How does a family unit fall apart to produce this kind of dynamic? I knew this woman! I have known Kimberly from the business world when she approached me for my payroll business almost 20 years ago. She was confident, assertive, had a Joie de vivre attitude about life. We became friends and had some fun times outside of business. How would I have ever known the horrors she endured? She never gave a hint. Now I can see how it all drove her to become the best she could be. And most importantly, how she took the horrendous experiences she learned through it all and used them to help other young women now with her nonprofit. I would encourage this book to be shared with all young women. To read about her experiences and learn the definition of strength, integrity, survival, being assertive, using your voice! Everywhere we are turning we are reading about sexual exploitation of our young women. Like the birds and the bees talk, we need to talk about this with our children. It is not to be shoved under the carpet! Kimberly did so in a very raw, unadulterated way. I recommend this book. I recommend you read it and I recommend you pass it on to any young girl you know that can benefit from hearing that life does have its dark corners but that you have the strength and means in you to find the light!
This book is an easy read. From the very first page, you are quickly drawn into the trials and triumphs of the author's life. But the subject matter itself is not so easy to read. The author takes us from her abusive childhood, to sexual exploitation as a teen, and later, to sexual assault and harassment in the workplace as an adult. Miles does not shy away from the graphic nature of the most heartbreaking, horrifying moments of her life, nor should she. There are lessons to be learned here, revelations to be discovered. Find out how Miles takes the reigns over her life, to kick some ass, become a "BossLady" and to ultimately create the SHERO Foundation, helping combat sex trafficking/exploitation of young women and girls. This book will inspire readers as well. Not only that they, too, can overcome life's hardships, but can become stronger, more empowered, and be their own "Shero" in their life.
Wow! This book was eye opening and inspiring on many levels. There are journeys of self-discovery for many, hurdles to overcome and even combat zones to survive and this book takes us through one woman’s tour of all of them. But, the level that touched me the most was on a personal one. Having known the author from when she moved to Trenton and graduating with her in HS, I had no idea of what she endured up until even that point in her life; the most poignant being the loss of her mother. We went our separate ways and through modern social media reconnected and I can say even louder WOW! I am very proud of Kim for having the courage to put her story to paper in a very forthright and unabashed manner. If you’re a person looking for a story of success you’ll find it here; if you’re a woman looking for a book of inspiration to persevere this book should be in your hands being read now! The Boss Lady has landed and Be a SHERO!
Reading this broke my heart into pieces before filling it up with happiness for a woman who found her way of dealing with trauma and finding her true self. I highly recommend this book especially for women/young ladies who have found themselves in traumatic situations. Kimberly's journey teaches us all that we are worthy of a better life and true happiness.
