A handy book containing highly valuable quotes based on Christian literature. They have bearing on Self Development and day-to-day life.

For the immediate reference of my readers, I give below select quotations from this book.

Choice, not chance determines human destiny. (I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. – Deuteronomy 30:19)

To be upset over what you don’t have is to waste what you do have. (Because the Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need. – Psalm 23:1 TLB)

Laughter is the web that sweeps away the cobwebs of the heart. (A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. – Proverbs 17:22 AMP)

Character is not made in crisis, it is only exhibited. (I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. – Psalm 16:8)

Depend on it; God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supplies. (If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. – Isaiah 1:19 NIV)

It is not how many hours you put in but how much you put into the hours. (Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men…. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. – Colossians 3:23, 24 NIV)

The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism. (If you profit from constructive criticism you will be elected to the wise men’s hall of fame. But to reject criticism is to harm yourself and your own best interests. – Proverbs 15:31, 32 TLB)

A professional is someone who can do his best work when he doesn’t feel like it. (To win the contest you must deny yourselves many things that would keep you from doing your best. - 1 Corinthians 9:25a TLB)

People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing. (The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. – Proverbs 19:11)

The right train of thought can take you to a better station in life. (For as he thinks within himself, so he is. – Proverbs 23.7a NAS)

Smart people speak from experience – smarter people from experience, don’t speak. (… He who restrains his lips is wise. – Proverbs 10:19 NAS)

The price of greatness is responsibility. (But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. – Matthew 23:11)

A diamond is a chunk of coal that made good under pressure.

The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention. (Let us not love in theory or in speech but in deed and in Truth – in practice and sincerity. – 1 John 3:18 AMP)

I have suffered a great many catastrophes in my life. Most of them never happened. (For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7)

One reason the dog has so many friends; he wags his tail instead of his tongue. (An evil man sows a strife; gossip separates the best of friends. – Proverbs 16:28 TLB)

People with tact have less to retract.

Life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be enjoyed. (This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24 NIV)

Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy. (Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. – Proverbs 12:18 NIV)

It is impossible for a man to despair who remembers that his Helper is omnipotent.

Silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute. (Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soul from troubles. – Proverbs 21-23)

Pray as everything depended on God and work as if everything depended upon man. (… faith without works is dead … - James 2:26)

Faults are thick where love is thin.

The only way to have a friend is to be one. (A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly… - Proverbs 18:24)

Do not in the darkness of night, what you’d shun in broad daylight.

The past should be a springboard not a hammock.

Our faith should be our steering wheel not our spare tire. (… but the righteous will live by his faith. – Habakkuk 2:4 NIV)

This book is not for one that wants a deep lesson in various books of the bible. However, this may be a book for a time in your life where you are under stress and/or you can't concentrate It has some solid reminders of the key scripture voices that are actually mini-instructions on how to run your life.

Here are two that I picked out that may be helpful

FEAR:
I've suffered a great many catastrophes in life. Most of them never happened.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7

LOVE:

In Love, we may find it better to make allowances, rather than make points.

Above all, Love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of ins. - 1 Peter 4:8

If I just live my life with those two pairs of verses and sayings, I will live a rich and good life.

Recommend for light reading.

A cute idea for a book; therefore the one star. Match a "famous" quote with a bible passage. I love reading quotes; collecting them when I find them inspirational. However none of the quotes in this book really touched me. I am going to give the book away because maybe someone else will find it to be a good read.

Received this book as a high school graduation gift. I like to grab it and thumb through it every now and again, it's a palate cleanser when I'm between books.

Okay, this is a descent little book, full of cookie-cutter wisdom that fits well on a fortune cookie or a greeting card. My problem is that it seems to shoehorn several of the Bible verses to fit. It's full of vague connections, some work, some don't.

Also, not a fan of how down they appear to be on atheists. A man who isn't ready to accept the existence of God is not a fool, is not immoral; he is merely of a different opinion.

Garage sale special. Bothers me slightly that it is in the same format as those bathroom joke books. My favorite: "Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest" followed by a quote from Psalm 90.
