Published: a guide to literature review, outlining, experimenting, visualization, writing, editing, and peer review for your first scientific journal article
From research topic to journal article in seven clear steps Are you feeling frustrated with your research? While many books teach only individual research skills, Published provides the breadth to guide you through your research journey from start to finish. This book organizes the research process into seven clear phases. And it walks you through each phase with step-by-step instruction. Published offers the clarity, direction, and encouragement you need to drive your project all the way to publication.
If you’re new to publishing or you advise and teach graduate students, this book is a pretty incredible resource.
The information is helpful and broken down in a way that makes old advice seem pretty actionable. For example, I really loved that the author took a craftsmanship mindset, but was able to write this book in such a way that seems so much more accessible to a wider audience.
The only thing I would say is that while this book is super helpful overall, it lacks nuance. There are some situations where discipline norms supersede some of the generic publishing advice and although this book never claims to cover all bases, I think that could have been made clearer from the beginning.
