Far from home in a ravaged world, the Birthrighters struggle for survival. Raised in a new ark beneath polar ice, delivered by whales to a blighted surface, the young men and women of the Birthright Project have pledged their lives to a risky and redemptive mission--perserving God's original creation from the ravages of the Endless Wars and human depravity. They've roamed the earth tracking original species. They've successfully battled sorcerers, warlords, and armies of mutants. But now a twisted new enemy is on the march. An explosive old secret lurks beneath the glitter of a decadent city. And the mysterious darkness that swallowed a mountain spreads toward an innocent mill town. Before they can prevail, the Birthrighters must confront their most difficult overcoming their individual desires that threaten to betray the group. The adventure draws to a dramatic close in Book Two of Kathryn Mackel's imaginative and absorbing Birthright Series...a fantasy thriller with a heart of faith.

I honestly can't decide if I liked these books in the Birthright project or not. The premise was interesting, the writing was average - light: without the depth of my favorite fantasy authors, but fully acceptable. More in line with writing you would expect for a young adult target audience but the subject matter was definitely not young adult in nature. In fact I thought there were too many references to sexual themes in these books for my taste, the point could have been made more subtly. I'm not against using sexual themes to make a point - such as Francine Rivers "Redeeming Love" but I felt here that often they were only used to build the horror of the situation. - Valid - you felt horrified, but as a result I would never recommend this book to young adults. Still the concepts of faith and truth come across strongly and the plot and idea of a world destroyed by genetic engineering is fascinating. In the end, I didn't feel edified by reading these books: the horror of the situation almost outweighed the concepts of God that the Birthrighters were fighting for and that I why I am giving them a low rating.

Trackers could be the never-ending story that I would be delighted to pick up every day. In a world of wizards, birthrighters, and transmogrified beasts, its a battle of good and evil right to the edge of the cliff. But its not quite over. I would love for another sequel to follow because Kathryn Mackel's imagination is a wild and fascinating place to visit.

Kathryn has created an interesting and engaging world and characters that I care about and want to see grow and succeed. It was a good book, although it felt a little short. Clearly I will have to read the others in the series to fill out the experience :-)

This was a riveting bit of Christian fantasy, with an original idea and good execution. Having not read the first, I found myself lost a bit in the beginning, but once I got them straightened out I cared deeply for them, and the ending was satisfying.

I have liked this book series. Just an interesting take on a future world. I haven't found a book 3 yet. Don't know if it exists.
