This book gives extensive explanations of euchre strategies. It is organized as a reference document for easy topical access. The emphasis of the book is to explain optimal tactics for any situation. The book includes examples and the ideas have been verified using a specially written computer simulator to records thousands of hands for given scenarios and tabulate results to draw conclusions. Interactive software that uses and teaches the subject matter in this text is available through download.com. The title of that software is Euchre Challenge and Teacher.
I'm shelving this book before finishing it. I appreciate the intellectual effort that went into it but the writing is just so bad (apparently self-published without any help from a competent editor).
Many of the ideas would be easily digested if they weren't obscured by sloppy writing and disorderly arrangement.
I downloaded the freeware version of his tutorial software and the information in the help is much more instructional and clear than what's in this book. Why didn't he turn that into a Flowchart of Optimal Euchre Play? That would've imposed a rational structure upon his writing and he clearly understands how to write blurbs for "help" in a computer program.
A few weeks ago I began a search for a book on advanced euchre strategies with a mathematical/game theory approach. Euchre Strategies proved to be just what I wanted. It is very analytical and doesn't shy away from the harder to answer questions. I was very happy with the content. That being said, it was horrendously edited and formatted. Typos ran wild, text was inconsistently formatted (bolded, capitalized) and editor's notes remained in spots ("**fragment**"). But if you can get past that, you will learn a lot and probably significantly improve your game.
