John Brown

This book examines the vastly contrasting views held on the controversial anti-slavery campaigner, John Brown, who famously led the unsuccessful raid on the federal armoury at Harper's Ferry. Many regard him as a heroic martyr and visionary, while others see him as a madman and American terrorist.

The theme of Leaders: Civil War Era, John Brown hit me as a book about trials and tribulations and overcoming challenges life throws at you no matter how many times you may fail. This book is about John Brown an Activist trying to put some change in place regarding slavery. Many people don’t know about him because this was pre Civil War and Lincoln regarded him as crazy.
I really liked how the book included newspaper articles and photos to kind of take you back and give you an idea of the time. I would recommend this to anyone interested in history and I thought it was a great book that helped me to learn about new things and important figures that changed history.
