Jordan Elizabeth’s HILLSIDE is a quick read, dark, edgy and filled with a cast of characters that range from the innocent to the deadly, the deceivers and the forgiveness that only those who love deeply can achieve.
There is far too much going on here for the number of pages. I think I needed more depth for the gravity of this tale. Still, this is a good read when time is at a premium.
I received a complimentary copy from Jordan Elizabeth! This is my honest and voluntary review.

I love that Jordan Elizabeth mixes historical truth with her imagination in her stories and this book was no different. Once again a great read that can be, and most probably will be, read in one sitting.
Based on a real place and a real period of history, Jordan Elizabeth imagines fictional characters living in the settlement of Hillside, New York in the 1890s. The main character, Viola, is a young school teacher at a one-roomed school where nothing out of the ordinary happens. That is until she learns her dying Aunt Helen is harbouring a huge secret.
Aunt Helen revealed she abandoned a daughter and Viola decides to surprise her by finding her long lost daughter, Bessie. But in finding Bessie, Viola discovers the reason Aunt Helen ran away from home, putting everyone who lives in Hillside in grave danger.
Although short, Jordan Elizabeth packs in romance, family, murder and historical fiction into her novella Hillside, the second instalment of the Echoes of New York series. The story does not follow on from the previous book, however, it is set in the same area. The amount of research the author has done to create an accurate setting is clear from the authenticity of the story.
A tiny element of the supernatural appears in Hillside, although not as much as in the previous book in the series. This is by no means a bad thing, however, since it does not detract from the storyline and historical accuracy.
Personally, I did not think Hillside was one of Jordan Elizabeth's best books but it is a good story to read when you need something to pass a short time.
Beautiful and dark. What a beautiful and dark piece with a young woman setting out to bring some joy to an aunt she cares about. Good intentions but will lead to something unexpected. What I liked so much was how accurate the setting it was in a real place described brilliantly. I also liked that touch of magic in the tale it helps to set this piece apart from your run of the mill tale. I enjoyed the book and I am happy to recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I'm quite a fan of Jordan Elizabeth's work, and as usual, Hillside, did not disappoint. A dark story but written with a light touch, once again we're thrown into the writer's incredible imagination of vivid landscapes, strong female characters, and stories that come alive, and always with a resolution at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hillside and witnessing the clever Viola as she navigated each "predicament" she faced with a level head and cool logic. As always, I look forward to reading more books from Jordan Elizabeth.
i received a free ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. the book was an easy read! it was so captivating that i held my full attention throughout the pages. i would love so much to learn more about the the magic & spirits. but the story itself was satisfying enough on its own.
I wish I had just a small portion of the imagination that this author has. This is not a long book, but it is full of so much to keep you entertained. I love it.
Hillside: Echoes of New York Book Two is by Jordan Elizabeth. This book is very easy to read and can easily be read in one sitting. It is fiction with the setting being real. It is fun to read and try to figure out what the answer is. Although the characters are fiction, they definitely come across as real. Viola just wanted to be alone to read so she had come out into the woods. She thought her cousin Maudie had found her; but it was just a boy from the Hollow. He was cute and caught her attention. Although he was from the Hollow, he seemed nice enough. She knew she shouldn’t talk to him; but it would be rude not to. Viola learned her aunt had a baby after Viola herself had been born. Aunt Helen had left her daughter alone thinking her mother and grandmother would care for her. However, it was essential that Helen leave. Now that she was dying, she thought of her daughter more often. After leaving her grandmother, Viola went to Rome and found Bessie. Bessie came to Hillside the next day to see her mother. The next morning Viola went home and Bessie came with her. A gang led by Bill Parker was coming to finish off Hillside Violet decided to try to finish the gang off once and for all.
