Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
I thought it was all wonderful, educational, and adorable. I've always loved the berenstain Bears. They've been my favorite book characters since I was very young. Even though I'm an adult, the berenstain Bears are still my favorite. I was really glad to see that the book was in perfect condition. I can also tell you that this will not be the last Berenstain Bears book I'll be buying.
The story was about nature. My favorite part was the part that said, "if an animal eat leaves, the name for it is herbivore. If an animal eats meat, the name for it, is carnivore. If an animal eats anything the name for it is omnivore." Cowbirds aren't very good mothers because they lay their eggs in the nests of others. An ostrich is eight feet tall with no feathers so maybe that's the reason why it cannot fly. A plant can do something that you can't do; you can visit your friends and watch tv; a plant can't. You can jump a puddle and climb a tree, a plant can't; you can read or write, a plant can't. When water runs through your yard in rainy weather, in the places where there is grass it holds the soil together, but in places where you have no lawn, you may find the soil is gone. I liked how the book told all about nature.
The Bear family goes on a long nature walk and they learn facts about animals, plants, and the earth itself. This book is humorous and informative. The illustrations are very memorable; this was a favorite of mine as a child and even after decades I could remember the cave illustration and some of the other pages. It’s an interesting mix of fiction and non-fiction.
I grew up with this book and was so happy to add it to our collection for our own children. My two boys love this book as much as I do. The like to show me their " camping spots" on the nature map pages.
We love the Berenstain Bears, and this is particularly fun because there is so much to learn about (and a lot sticks with kids, rhyming and fun with words). Great book! Great way to introduce nature vocabulary to very young ones.
