Welcome to Premonition Pointe, where witches take care of their own.
Grace Valentine had the perfect marriage and a great career managing her husband’s real estate office. Or so she thought until three months ago when she was served with divorce papers. Thanks to her philandering ex, not only is she out of a husband, she’s out of a job, too.
At the age of forty-five with the help of her coven, Grace is ready to pick up the pieces and move on. But her only job prospect is at the rival real estate office, and it’s only for a trial run. She’ll need to prove that she can sell the haunted properties of Premonition Pointe before she’s hired permanently.
But who has time to deal with haunted houses when she’s testing out every anti-perspirant on the market to combat her escalating hot flashes, trying not to succumb to the advances of the hot thirty-four-year-old in her office, and ignoring the urges to hex her ex with erectile disfunction? Okay, maybe she doesn’t ignore the urges. She might be a witch, but she’s only human. Can Grace prove to herself and her new boss she has the magical touch to sell the impossible and find the courage get her groove back… even if her new love interest is a decade younger?
Deanna is a native Californian, transplanted to the slower paced lifestyle of southeastern Louisiana. When she isn't writing, she is often goofing off with her husband in New Orleans, playing with her two shih tzu dogs, making glass beads, or out hocking her wares at various bead shows across the country. Grace’s husband dumped her for a younger model, and she suddenly finds herself without a husband and a job, since she worked side-by-side with him in his realtor business.
Trying to sell haunted homes, working for the local competition and helping family are keep Grace busy. She meets Owen at her new real estate firm and he clearly has an interest in her. Can she overcome the age difference?
Her new boss hires her, but with conditions. She needs to sell one of three unsellable homes. It turns out the homes are all owned by one man and haunted. I loved this aspect of the story, from the ghostly mischief to the histories.
We also meet Grace’s niece Lex and her girlfriend. Lex is having troubles at home with Grace’s sister’s boyfriend. It was an interesting thread, and all the dishes Lex cooked made my stomach grumble.
I loved meeting Grace’s friends, the troubles Grace had with her spells, and the local happens.
However, the romance fell flat for me. I felt the chemistry between Grace and Owen, but didn’t get swept up. The romance was served as a side dish and just didn’t have enough to hook me. I am very interested in her friend’s second chance romance; which is rekindling… I hope. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
Grace finds herself divorced, without a job since she worked with her husband in his real estate business, and trying to sell a haunted home.
Witching For Grace is a cute and enjoyable read. It does focus more on the real estate side than the actual romance.
Midlife isn’t what Grace planned. Now she’s working for the competition, but it’s not a guaranteed job since she has to sell three unsellable homes. It turns out the homes are all owned by one man and haunted. I liked this aspect of the story, from the ghostly mischief to the histories. I also liked meeting Grace’s friends, the troubles Grace had with her spells, and the local happenings.
Nevertheless the romance fell flat for me. I never felt the chemistry between Grace and Owen. The romance is more a side-dish than the main-course.
Witching For Grace was a pleasant read. I really enjoyed picking up a story that featured an over 40 heroine. It’s a nice change. I’ll be checking out the next installment.
Witching for Grace by Deanna Chase Premonition Pointe series #1. Paranormal women’s fiction. Witches and ghosts. Older protagonist (45). Grace Valentine gets a temporary job at a rival real estate office after her husband and boss divorces her. Grace must sell at least one of the haunted houses on Premonition Pointe to make the job permanent. Hot flashes, an attraction to a younger man, and learning her angry diatribes results in cursing the person who angered her has Grace grateful for her friends and family. And her witch powers. Who knew her life would change so much after her cheat of an ex walked out?
A lot of world building in this first book in the series. Grace has to learn to cope with a new job, new coworkers, perimenopause, her wishes turning into curses, the hots for a younger man, and a bad back. And don’t forget the family drama. Intriguing new series in the new (at the time) paranormal women’s fiction category started by 13 female paranormal authors of a certain age. I’ll definitely read more of this witchy series.
Witching for Grace by Deanna Chase is the debut of the Premonition Pointe series. Grace Valentine is on her own after having been married for twenty years. She also ran her husband’s real estate firm, so she needs a new job. Grace interviewed with Kevin Landers at Landers Realty (her husband’s rival firm) and has a temporary position as a realtor. If Grace wants full-time employment, she must sell one of three haunted properties that no one has been able to sell. Grace, thankfully, is a witch, so she has the right skills and connections. Grace has been trying to resist the urge to hex her cheating ex-husband and the twenty something he picked over her. As if Grace does not have enough going on, her niece needs a place to stay thanks to her mother’s sleaze of a live-in boyfriend, Grace’s hot flashes are off the charts, and her roots need done (desperately). On the upside, the thirty-four years old realtor in the office has asked Grace out (now she really needs a hair appointment). Witching for Grace gives us a look at a forty-five year old woman (and witch) who is starting over. Most of the life situations are realistic with humorous and witchy twists. Grace is lucky to have two good friends in Joy and Hope plus she has her niece, Lex. I would have liked more backstory on Grace and the town. I felt that was lacking. I loved the haunted homes and how Grace went about finding new owners for them (a story just on the haunted homes would have been intriguing). I would have liked to have heard more from the spirited inhabitants. There are some good life lessons in Witching for Grace that will resonate with many people. I do want to let readers know there is foul language (quite a bit) and sexual innuendos. Grace experiences passionate kisses that have her hormones on overdrive (the thoughts alone cause her to have hot flashes—she needs to start carrying a battery operated fan in her purse). I liked how the story ended and we get a glimpse at Hope’s tale which is next in Witching for Hope. Witching for Grace is an amatory romance story with a courageous cat, a charming colleague, an insensitive sister, humdrum hair, waxing woes, and haunted houses.
Witching for Grace by Deanna Chase is part of the new paranormal womens' fiction genre that showcases heroines in the 40's or older who start a new life in a paranormal setting. Grace is the heroine in this story has her husband has just dumped for a younger model. She's a member of a small coven with her two best friends who live in a small community along the west coast that accepts witches as "normal". With laughter and tears I loved the story of how Grace came into her own independence and found a new romance along the way.
I'm guessing that when you live in a town known for supernatural leanings you need to be careful when you screw over your witchy wife. Because sometimes the urge to hex is too powerful to contain and it just slips out unintentionally.
To be fair, Grace doesn't mean to indulge in those hexes and she works on fixing them once she realizes what she's done. Really, given all that's thrown at her, her self-control is pretty awesome overall. I mean, she loses her husband and her job and she has to prove herself at her new job by selling haunted houses.
The lady has a lot on her plate and sometimes mean ideas unconsciously slip out and suddenly people are dealing with things they may or may not have had coming to them.
But this book isn't all about hexes (those are actually a pretty minor plot point, tbh). It's about finding yourself and righting old wrongs and being true to the person you are despite all the excrement flung at you. Also, it's about getting over the idea that an older woman can't score with a younger guy. *thumbs up to that, Grace!*
Absolutely everything from the stunning cover, to the final word was just magical. Grace Valentine, such a cool name and such a seriously beautiful woman, along with her besties Joy and Hope, her niece Lex and even her sister Alyssa they all made one kick-ass story come to life, in the quaint town of Premonition Point. I loved that this story made me laugh, cry, get angry and seriously wonder about the male species...lol it also made me snicker a few times at Grace’s ability to curse people...lol Now I’m counting down to Hope's story that’s how much this new series grabbed me.
At the 33% point, I just gave up. There was nothing to this story that "spoke" to me. Just another woman who had her marriage broken up by infidelity and is moving on. I can't say that there was anything particularly wrong with the writing, but I felt that there must have been a bunch of backstory that I was just missing; something to make this woman and her friends more interesting. They were just plopped down there on the paper but nothing made me care about them.
Grace Valentine had a great career and marriage-or so she thought. Her marriage ends and it turns out he wasn't such a catch after all. Grace must find a new job and pick up the pieces and carry on. But Grace is a witch and has the help of her friends and fellow witches. She applies to another real estate agency and is assigned only haunted properties that noone else can sell. Meanwhile a few accidental hexes for her annoying ex and various other obnoxious people giving her trouble. Sorry but not sorry! How about Owen, the handsome younger good-looking new agent who is interested in her? Hmmm things are looking up! Fun read about moving on and improving things in a tough situation. Entertaining!
Grace worked for her husband in his real estate office. Now, newly divorced (hec heated on her), she needs to start over. She starts a new job at the rival office and struggles at first to find her footing. She also happens to be a witch and has supportive friends. The town is also supportive of the supernatural. When all was said and done, this was entertaining and a good way to spend some time. I didn't like it enough to pick up the rest in the series. Light and didn't need to think too much.
My Amazon account has really been pushing the fantasy for middle aged ladies in my suggested books feed, so I thought I would give one a try. After all, I like fantasy and I happen to be a middle age gal.
This was a cute little book which focused on Grace, a recently divorced woman who happens to be a witch. This is a modern witch story filled with current themes like domestic violence and accepting a gay child for who they are. However, the majority of the book focuses on Grace's new career as a real estate agent in a company that is the main competition for her ex husband's real estate agency. At her new job Grace meets a younger attractive agent that is interested in dating her and that's where things start to get a little wonky.
Of course, since Grace is approaching 50 the book is filled with references to hot flashes and throwing her back out. That did not bother me so much. But the dialogue between Grace and the younger love interest was somewhat cheesy. They kept calling each other sexy. Does anyone even say things like, I think you're sexier than hell? I don't think so. And the book was filled with that word, SEXY throughout.
So I won't be returning for the sequel because of the dialogue. I know this was supposed to be a lite read, but I just can't get over all the times the word sexy was used.
I loved my first book in the new Paranormal Women's Fiction genre! I got this and two others in the genre, and I'm hooked! I've adored each and every book Deanna Chase has released in her quirky, and just plain brilliant witch series! This one is no different. At the center is a wonderfully big hearted, fierce, mid forties female witch that has just been dumped by her cheating loser of a husband. His loss! For this witch is definitely gaining her mojo back!! A great into into this witty, funny series. I can't wait for the future books in this series about our main characters BFF's. Three cheers for this amazing new genre!
This was really a waist of time. It barely had anything of interest.
We start out with this girl party, has some witchy vibes. Then we go into issues with marriage and life. And that about it. It was just boring. It was like playing dress up it wasn’t a paranormal book at all just had all the toppings but no depth.
I thought it was going to be a great read. It was just a disappointment. Ugh! Why did I actually read this book.
I love this new Paranormal Women's Fiction genre! The main character is real. She's funny, smart and real. The other characters are very well crafted and written. Some of the women come out of left field and I feel the need to high-five them. The storyline is fresh and would make a great lifetime movie. And oh.... the shoes. I can't wait to see what these folks do next.
This book is clearly not written for my age group. I'm a bit too young for it - however, as a sucker for gorgeous shoes, I had to try it out. (That cover is delicious!)
As it turned out, I was indeed a bit too young for some references. I can't 100% relate to what it's like to be a middle aged woman yet, but I recognised things my mother has always joked about, so that was fun.
This is a very light read or listen. It doesn't take itself too serious and it's not trying to be "great literature", but it tells a nice story with many points of views that seldom (or never) get any spotlight in the fantasy genre and therefore it was refreshing.
The "instant love story" is actually more like an "instant lust story" with (at least so far) close to zero millimetres of depth. I quite honestly didn't think the relationship made much sense because first the sexy Boy Toy said one thing, then another, and in the end I knew it didn't really matter at all because (obviously) he and Grace were going to end up together anyway.
The best part: A real estate agent selling haunted houses! I mean, I really, really, reeeeeeeally love that idea!
Execution of the actual story wasn't as great as the idea, but still... I will probably return for more of this series.
Grace finds herself building a new life after divorcing her husband of 20+ years. A new home, great friends and coven sisters, a niece who needs a little moral support and the hot younger man at the office, keep Grace on her toes. I enjoyed Grace’s journey into her new life. Just the right amount of humor had me giggling while rooting for Grace, her friends and family. If you enjoy a strong older heroine, a dash of magic definitely check this book out.
This is the first book that I have read by Deanna Chase, having found her through the PWF fiction group of authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a Realtor and her search for independence after splitting up with her husband. I loved her relationship with her coven friends and her niece. I particularly enjoyed Grace’s new magical developments that occurred! There was a bit less romance than I expected but that is not to say that there wasn‘t the love interest. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I love love love loved this book. Well written, witty and just a great storyline. The characters are so well written and the story ends very well with the perfect set up for book 2 in the series.
5 BIG ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a wonderful story with all the feels! An emotional rollercoaster in the best way. I can’t wait for more!! 💖 #PWF #FAB13 #amreading
This book was so great. Grace has a close nit coven. They have each other's backs at all time. If you mess with family or friend then you are in a world of hurt. This book will keep you laughing and turning pages. I recommend this book.... You'll love it.....
I enjoyed this book. It is about a women whose life has went through completely upheaval. Her husband left her for another woman, and she lost her job and has to start over. Her 2 friends help her find her way. Add in some ghosts and picky houses and you have a recipe for a good read
What a wonderful start to a new series. This book quickly drew me in and kept me turning the pages until I reached the end. It was a refreshing change to read a book with a strong, older female character. This book hits the mark with an interesting story, and intriguing characters. I look forward to reading more in this series and can't wait to see what happens next.
The beginning started out good, but this book for me became too charged up with current social hot topics and morally superior narrative. I read to get away from the current social and political climate. I just stopped reading it and wish I hadn't wasted my money on it. I'll move on to something more to my taste.
This book is part of the PWF movement. A Over 40, kick butt woman taking control of their life. This book is about Grace. She and her best friends start this story off with them doing a spell for Grace to clam her self -confidence back. She has a job interview at the local real estate office. The one that competes against her ex-husband. Yes she needs to start standing up for herself. Her friends also give her the perfect pair of shoes. Ones that say kick butt and take names.
We need to remember that this is a town based on Premonitions. That morning before the job interview Grace takes a walk on the beach to her favorite spot for some cleansing time. While there she hears some whispering words that can only be wise words she should fallow from the heart of Premonition point. One her job interview she meets Owen. The new town hotness. He also works at the office where she wants to work. He seems interested in Grace. Even though he is a few years younger. The job is going to be hers if she can sale the haunted houses that nobody else has been able to sale.
She in list her best friends in the hunt to find the perfect person for each of the houses. While trying to sale the houses. Her sister ,Alyssa, has a Jack butt boyfriend that is a butt of the worst kind. He has ran off her niece,Lex. Who moves in with Grace. You can see they are hurting for Alyssa and want to help her. She is not budging about anything.
With all this going on her ex is bumping into her everywhere. He is making sure he is being seen and heard. grace says some things while going about that seem to have come true. I think her power has increased since she has moved on and upward. She finds she has hexed a few people along the way.
Every thing turns into a poop storm towards the end. We don't know if she is going to sale the houses, get the guy, be happy for and with her sister, and be able to go about life without running into the ex-husband.
I really like how this book moved. I love all the people. I think the end was a great ending and it tied up Grace's story nicely. I look forward to reading more of this series.
This book was fine, and it had its funny moments, but it wasn’t really what I wanted to read about.
The plot seemed interesting with Grace having to sell haunted houses, but that’s not really shown. There are a few scenes where it shows that there are ghosts in the houses, but then she doesn’t really do anything about it. Joy is the one who does all the research while Grace doesn’t do anything. Also, Grace belonged to a coven which wasn’t shown at all, and the magic that happened was very small and I wanted to see more.
There were some side characters and I liked most of them, but they could have been shown more. Hope and Joy were fine, but I didn’t think that they were overly interesting. Lex supposedly lived with Grace, but you don’t really see her. Grace’s sister was rubbish so I didn’t really care that she’s not shown. Also, I would say that Owen was a side character, who was constantly in the background. You don’t actually know anything about him, apart from the fact that he’s younger and that he used to have a girlfriend who he wasn’t ready to commit to.
There wasn’t any relationship development between Grace and Owen. The few times they meet or arrange to meet, there are interruptions and they don’t really get to know each other. Also, there were huge time gaps between their almost dates, so it didn’t feel like enough.
This book was fine, but it wasn’t for me and I’m not going to continue with this series. This book is definitely what it’s advertised as being: women’s fiction with some paranormal elements.
I will never get tired of this author’s books! Despite the laughter, there are such great life lessons in there! This is what friends are all about – to be loved and cherished, because they’ll loyally stand by your side through the good and the bad. Loss of both her job managing her husband’s real estate office and her cheating husband’s delivery of divorce papers -- when you thought everything was going well -- is a real wakeup call. But Grace Valentine’s friends make sure she is equipped to face the world – in a great pair of shoes that spell SUCCESS in whatever you’re after.
Grace’s job interview at a rival real estate office is presented to her as a challenge. Grace has to sell some haunted houses at Premonition Pointe that no one before her has been able to sell. The journey to her success will have the reader in hysterical laughter as this lady goes after what she wants with a new level of confidence. Yes, there are obstacles. But her friends fill her with love and encouragement. And there’s a cutie reward back at the office if she can earn this job! Grab your copy and cheer for Grace as she doesn’t let her ex destroy her life and she faces a future that can be as beautiful as she chooses to make it! Another inspiring and excellent book to keep the reader smiling all day long!
I am so loving this new genre of paranormal women's fiction! It is so refreshing to read about women older than the traditional 20 something heroine who have a bit more going on as far as being confident in who they are. Grace is an easy character to love. She knows her own value and, even coming fresh off a divorce, she is not broken. She's moving on with her life in a very purposeful way that is so awesome to read. However, even with all this confidence and sense of self, she still has some hang-ups and insecurities that stem from societal expectations of older women and divorced women and I love that she has them! It's a character's insecurities and flaws that make them feel real and relatable! The feel of this story was a lot like the Keating Hollow books with the magical town, strong sense of family ties, and the close friendships. I love this type of story, it's very heartwarming, even when situations get a little dark for the characters. I can't wait to find out more about Grace's friends Hope and Joy when their stories come out! Much like Keating Keating Hollow, Premonition Pointe is a place I now want to live!
Witching For Grace: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (Premonition Pointe Book 1) by Deanna Chase is a Paranormal story that is fun and crazy and all it needs is one pair of shoes. Has been written by one of 13 Fabulous authors who decided to take the literary world by storm and show them that stories can be written about women who are 40 and be just as good if not better than books written for younger women. Deanna has written a wonderfully crazy magical story where Grace finds herself traded in for a younger woman and going head to head in the world of real estate. She must find a way to sell the unsellable and make a new name for herself but she must also decide if she has room for love. I loved the situations that Grace and her friends found themselves and laughed from start to finish. Never underestimate the power of besties and witches. NOW I just have to wait for the next one and I hate waiting…….
