Different Hearts #3

Serving Mr. Chamberlain

Rate this book
An MM Service-Oriented BDSM Romance

It was so cliché it hurt.

Quentin Davis never expected to crush on his new boss, his new straight boss. It was just that Mr. Chamberlain was everything he’d ever wanted in a man. He was handsome with a quick wit, a dominant attitude, and piercing, gray eyes that could cut you with a look. What wasn’t there to like?

It would never work.

Nolan Chamberlain finds his new secretary a little too tempting. Sometimes, Quentin is all he can think about. With one best friend heavily entrenched in the BDSM lifestyle and the other recently finding happiness in an alternative relationship, Nolan decides it’s his turn—which means leaving his painfully polite, vanilla, sexy secretary alone.

An accidental encounter.

During his first night out with his friends at the local BDSM club, Nolan locks eyes with the impossible. Quentin dressed in nothing but a few scraps of lace, combat boots, and gold highlighter serving the crowded room. And not because he works there, but because he likes it. Maybe Quentin isn’t so off-limits after all.

WARNING: This book is intended for Adult (18+) readers. This book features service-oriented BDSM. I understand this kind of content is not for everyone. If this is not your cup of tea, feel free to skip this book. I try to write all the books so that they can be read and understood as stand-alone stories. However, reading them all together will create a more complete and rich experience as past characters can and will make surprise appearances.

In the end notes by the author:
“I’ve always had this assumption that most people don’t view BDSM relationships in a romantic light, and I wanted to smash that assumption to pieces.”
Izaia Winter has certainly done that.

If you are one of those who run for the hills when BDSM is mentioned (and of course, there’s nothing wrong with that!), I dare to recommend this to you:
Yes, Quentin’s needs fall under BDSM.
Yes, one could describe Quentin and Nolan as dom and sub.
Yes, there is a little bit of bondage going on there, and ‘sir’ is Quentin’s favourite way of addressing Nolan.

But – if you expect whips and chains, pain and torture chambers, you won’t find them in this book.
Of course, they can be part of a BDSM relationship, but I think what the author’s trying to show is that just like in any conventional relationship, there is a huge scope for different relationships in BDSM, too.

The beauty of it is, when two people click with their needs and desires.
And that is what happens here. In a very romantic way.

While Quentin needs to serve, Nolan thrives on protecting and providing all Quentin needs.

Maybe their long term commitment to each other felt a bit rushed, but I really enjoyed reading about how they make being together work. Quentin is a total sweetheart, and Nolan’s grumpy vibes are just delicious and make it even better when he shows his nurturing, soft core.

And this is also very educational – I learnt the difference between a little, a pet and a submissive.
Saying that, I don’t think the other books in the series are for me, as they deal with daddy/little relationships.

But – try this one, if you fancy a cute romance in a BDSM setting.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

How had I ever thought him cold? He was like fire, and I wanted to burn.

Second time reading it, and it just confirmed that I really do love this book. It’s different from pretty much every BDSM related book I’ve read, especially as I haven’t read one with a service submissive before or after. They’ve got nearly a 24/7 dynamic, where Mr. Chamberlain doesn’t want that kind of service necessarily, but he wants to do whatever will make Quinten happy, and service and helpfulness is his love language. It’s a little heartbreaking, a little heartwarming, and very romantic, which I feel is rare.

“If you need something you’re not getting, you come to me. If you’re unhappy, you come to me. If someone is giving you problems, you come to me,” I said, thinking of some of the people around the office. “I know you need to serve me, little rabbit, but I need to make sure you’re happy while doing it.”

Mr. Chamberlain might be new to being a dom, but he sure fits the role well.

This book also touches on the topic of how trauma can relate to someone’s kinks and needs, and I love that acknowledgement without condemning it in any way. I also REALLY love that the MCs don’t orgasm at the same time, all the time, lol. Sometimes it’s just the little things that can make me love a book even more. Very highly recommend.

Super sweet, and very enjoyable. Perfect comfort read.

-----------------------------------------

Well now Izaia Winter, you’re quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! It looks like no matter what they write, I will love it.

Because first of all, I used to love BDSM, but these days I find myself no longer liking most BDSM books. Often the Dom is either cruel, which I hate, or the BDSM scenes themselves bore me. Well, not here.

Quentin is a service oriented submissive. He feels the need to serve people. He knows this is because he was brought up by the servants, and not by his cold parents. But it is actually his psychologist who recommends checking out BDSM to fulfill this need in a healthy way.

So Quentin serves people in the BDSM club he frequents, but he doesn’t really feel the need to do scenes with the Doms there. He is happy just serving. Of course his needs are mostly fulfilled these days by his new job. He is Mr. Chamberlain’s new secretary and he goes above and beyond to make sure Mr. Chamberlain is taken care of.

Nolan sure is happy with his new secretary. He also knows he has to stop having dirty fantasies about him, because he doesn’t want to abuse his position by coming on to his secretary.

When Nolan gets asked to join his two best friends when they visit the local BDSM club, he decides to come. He isn’t sure what he is looking for, but he knows his former relationships were all missing something.

When Nolan spots Quentin there he is absolutely gobsmacked. Quentin is a submissive! And he gets off on serving people. No, that doesn’t sound right. Quentin doesn’t just want to serve anyone, he wants to serve a Dom, one who can appreciate his service. So that’s why is always taking such good care of Nolan.

When Quentin spots Mr. Chamberlain at the club, he is scared to death of losing his job. But when he goes to work on Monday, he never expects Mr. Chamberlain to call him into his office and to get told that he has every intention of dating Quentin….

This was really sweet. The first two book in this series all featured an age play relationship, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. But I really liked it. Quentin was adorable, and Nolan was just so perfect for him.

Nolan was the kind of Dom I love. Sweet, caring, yet firm and dominant, but always fair.

And the next book is an age play book again. I can’t wait! I will probably read anything Izaia Winter will write. The writing is absolutely wonderful, and so far I love the characters they come up with. Sign me up for all upcoming books!

I may not be familiar with 'service' kink but I was hooked. This book was very different from the two previous book but it was still sweet, sexy, and touching. The characters were well-rounded and very likable, I loved their chemistry! Sweet and low angst, this book was very easy to read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the books in this series so far and I'm looking forward for more.

Ok this one was hard to pick a rating. There were two key elements to this story for me, the relationship and the BDSM. The relationship was fantastic! I really enjoyed how Chamberlain and Quentin got together, there was understanding and communication, some vulnerability and lust. They definitely had a bit of insta-love but I'd didn't really mind that.

Now the BDSM. I really enjoyed service-orientated stories and unfortunately haven't read enough of them, I love reading about the dynamics in a 24/7 relationship which is what these two men have. Now I completely understand that BDSM is different for everyone, but man I wanted more, like a lot more. If preparing all the meals for your partner and enjoying being fucked makes a submissive then I guess I ( and most of the house wifes/husbands I know) missed the memo on that one. What I'm saying is this felt very vanilla. The set up was all there but the delivery fell through.

I enjoyed the different titles Quentin used but because of the lack of BDSM obvious in their relationship using Chamberlains first name made it feel even more vanilla.

Read this book, it's very sweet! But this was just didn't deliver on the 24/7 lifestyle.

"I knew he wanted to serve me, but in this, I was his servant. His aftercare was my right."

Its amazing how a series that's based around kink can come across as so vanilla. These books are so sickly sweet and even with the different storylines feel very similar.

Upgraded to 5 stars on the re-read. I really, REALLY, loved this book. I think it's the first time I've read a book where the D/s titles are used so smoothly and interchangeably. You could tell that when Quentin called Nolan 'Sir' it was more about Quentin feeling an ingrained, organic respect for him, augmented by his need to serve, than it was about a title demanded by Nolan. I read the author's notes at the end of the book and I would say she 100% succeeded in that goal. I, myself, KNOW that Master and Sir can be just as loving titles as Daddy, but I think this is one of the few times I've literally felt it in every word. Quentin was who he was, and it came through beautifully. But, backing up, this is the first book I've read truly dedicated to service submission. Very interesting! On the one hand you're torn between feeling like the Dom may be taking advantage while, on the other, realizing that this is how the submissive feels fulfilled. But, about the actual book lol

Quentin is a legal secretary desperately attracted to his boss, Nolan Chamberlain (doesn't the name just totally fit??) LOL. Quentin is extremely attentive and attuned to his needs, and fulfills his need to serve by taking great care of his boss, making him homemade lunches etc. Unbeknown to him, his stoic, stone-faced boss is also attracted to him. They, quite unexpectedly, run into each other after hours, in a way that leaves no question as to what their kinks are and must decide how to proceed from there.

I LOVED Nolan. He was everything I love in a Dom. Unpretentious, attentive, nurturing, kind but no nonsense too. He is the kind of Dom I think of when I say an alpha male just IS. He effortlessly commanded respect and deference from Quentin, who was happy to give it. I LOVED Quentin. He was a submissive with every pore of his being. He couldn't turn it off if he wanted to. I loved that Nolan made it a point to have Quentin call him by his first name, even though Quentin wasn't always comfortable doing so. I loved that Nolan seemed to recognize that Quentin would need a specific situation when it was ok for Quentin to do so and gave him that guidance. I loved the analogy of Quentin growing up equating service with love, and I loved that his household staff became his family when his parents were incapable of showing him any. The pacing was perfect, the lack of drama refreshing, the absence of corniness welcome.

I will say that there are a couple things that caused some discomfort the first time I read this book, and did so again this time, even with me forgetting how I felt the first time. Because Quentin is Black or just dark brown (we never really get his exact heritage), and a service submissive ie essentially Nolan's servant in some ways, the fact that he chose to go by the letter N at the club bothered me. Why not Q? Was it taken? This is never explained. Also, the fact that his safe word, without any prior mention or frame of reference, was 'banana' bothered me. Usually the character will say 'Oatmeal. I hate oatmeal.' Or they will use a word that makes sense to the rest of us because it was part of the story up until that point. Banana just out of nowhere made me give this a bit of a side eye. Lastly, the fact that when he tried to open up to his friend at the club, and told him his real name, he still referred to him as N. Umm, why? A sensitivity reader was needed here, regardless of the race of the author, simply because of the nature of the story overall. I think that's why I gave the book 4 stars the first time, but loved it so much this time, I gave it the full five stars.

Definitely a book I will read again, even with those niggles.

Okay this wasn't bad. Arguably a 3 star, but when this book just felt so mechanical. Like I was reading this and I just felt nothing. Not a twinkle, not a flutter, not even a giggle. There was no zing. Maybe I'm the problem (I'm always the problem) but this book just felt like it passed through me and it didn't even faze me for a heartbeat.

And was not even remotely close to a Dom/sub relationship.

So endearing

I really enjoyed this take on service kink. Nolan was perfect for Quentin, and it did a good job showing what Quentin got out of it. There were still some minor editing issues, but it’s improved with every book in the series, which is promising. I look forward to the next one!

I just didn’t like this book very much. I was so excited about reading it because I loved the idea of service submission. It started out promising, but once Nolan and Quinton became lovers the book fell apart for me. I just didn’t feel the submission. Calling Nolan Sir seemed logical, but continuing to call him Mr. Chamberlain was creepy to me. Really disappointed 😞

Yay!

Can I just swoon and melt all of the floor with this story. This is the type of story you read when you need a pick me up. I adore both MC’s. Absolutely adore them. And I love a good work romance.
The writing was good. The sexy was hawt and the side characters were great (yay Ollie) hopefully we’ll get Spencer’s, or kyle, or Kane’s story so many more characters that need HEA, I’m excited to see what’s next

I am a sucker for bi-racial couples. This was a different kink for me and I enjoyed how it was presented to the reader. She took such care in explaining how it fit into the BDSM dynamic. Nolan and Quentin were great complaints of each other. I know Christmas has passed but maybe we can get a Vacation novella after the next book and Spencer can find his little. Just an idea!

Another fantastic story

I know the authors books are self published and thus there are a few grammatical errors, but almost unnoticeable, and absolutely well worth the amazing stories. I can't wait for the next book, and I love the authors books so much I buy them instead of doing the free borrowing from the kindle plans.

This book was a great continuation of Nolans story from Oliver and Marshall's novel. Only thing I wished was the inclusion of them from their book. Spencer was great and I can't wait for his story, but it would have been nice to see Oliver and Marshall and Red and his Daddy in this book and a scene at the club. But I loved seeing more of Kane and Kyle, they are always a hoot!

The books in this series honestly getting me all warm and fuzzy. Once again I like the characters a lot and once again they are very different to former characters. Quentin is such a sweetheart and I was so sad for him, about his past. As for Nolan I came to really like him, through this story. They have a beautiful relationship, with so much trust and love it melted me.
Like I wrote in a review before I really like stories involving BDSM because they often show how much the main characters trust each other and I think that again the author showed how beautiful this can be.
Of course it’s all very Insta-love and fluffy and cute but what should I say I just have thing for fluffy stories.

I really enjoy this series! The only bad thing is that the books are too short for my taste 😂. There are so many things I want to read about these characters, like scenes that are promised or hinted at and I'm dying to read them 😭. The characters are so complex and I really like the way they are portrayed with all their flaws and inner conflicts. Just as the book focuses on the relationship, without leaving behind family issues, the story manages to be light and easy to read. Of course, the dirty scenes are very much enjoyed!

Loved it!

There was much more than a romance in this book as the simple yet poignant scenes of intimacy between Mr. Chamberlain and Quentin totally made the story for me. The way Nolan accepted and treasured Quentin’s sweet submission through service was beautiful and heartwarming ❤️

This was a very loving, romantic version of a D/s relationship with a service element. Quentin is a natural submissive who enjoys serving those around him. His position as a secretary for Nolan allows him to do extra service-type tasks, but he fantasizes to have something more, if only Nolan were gay and open to the lifestyle. When they meet at a BDSM club where Quentin is serving drinks for the pleasure of the activity, they both realize there are hopes for something more. Their relationship progresses into something sweet, tender, and organic, where service is woven into all aspects of their interactions without being high protocol. The two men are so happy together that it really leaves the reader feeling very happy for them, too.

Service as a kink was new to me, and I enjoyed reading about it, but this was ultimately too sweet and angst-free for my tastes.
My preference isn’t two people that are immediately perfect for each other and rearrange their entire lives after 1 kiss and have no conflicts with one another ever.
But it’s always nice to have the option of something lighter and sweeter with kink element out there, and I enjoyed it overall.
Not sure if I’d read anything else in the series since it looks like the rest is pet or age play related, but I’d consider reading the author in general when looking for something fluffy in the future.
Thank you to RJ for the recommendation!

I loved the previous two books in the series, but this one just didn't grab me as much. I truly loved the service sub aspects, so it wasn't the different kink. I also liked how much both Nolan and Quentin took care of each other. There were some grammar problems that pulled me out of the story and one paragraph in particular that obviously had been mishmashed during editing, so that was part of the problem, but I feel like something is missing in the relationship. I'm still looking forward to the next book in the series.

This one was the best of the series so far for me.

Quentin has some things he's still working through from his childhood. I love that he really has no clue that Nolan is exactly the person he needs in his life. But once he realizes it, it's absolutely great.

I really liked Nolan. He hit all the things I like in a male. I loved how he was with Quentin. He is so protective of him, which is exactly something Quentin needs.

I really felt for Quentin with his relationship with his parents.

Glad I stuck with the series so I could read this one.

Loved this one. It's much different from the first two in the series.

Nolan and Quentin are good together. As with the other books in the series, there’s no drama or real angst, though my heart did break for Quentin when it came to his parents. I called the last two books sweet and fluffy. I don’t think I can call Serving Mr. Chamberlain fluffy, though it is definitely sweet. I’m really looking forward to the next book that will be Carson’s story. Carson is one of the owners of the BDSM club, The Church. He’s been mentioned a few times so I’m eager to read his book.
