They intended to save the planet but at the speed of light, the world catastrophically changed into a dark and deadly place. Millions of people lost their lives but for those who remained, the fight for their lives had only just begun.
No one could have been prepared for the disastrous events that followed The Reset. As those who remained worked to find a way to survive amid the destruction, others began a quest to take control of what was left.
The race to survival is on, but in the end, will anyone win?
Flood is the first book in the new page-turning, natural disaster survival series by Kellee L. Greene.
Kellee L. Greene is a stay-at-home mom to two super awesome and wonderfully sassy children. She loves to read, draw, and spend time with her family when she's not writing. Writing and having people read her books has been a long time dream of hers and she's excited to write more. Her favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi. Kellee lives in Wisconsin with her husband, two kids, and two cats.
Greene wrote an interesting viewpoint on an end of the world themed novel, Flood, Book 1 in the Reset series. What I loved most about Greene's take on a post apocalyptic world, was that it wasn't horror ridden with zombies. Instead, Greene focuses her novel around a cataclysmic event fueled by the government called a "RESET". Greene gives little information on how or where the Reset came from throughout Flood. However, she does introduce you to a series of characters each located in different parts of the US all fighting to figure out what happened to the life they once knew.
Greene definitely kept my interest with each of her characters and their plight to survive. Each set of characters had a different weather related event that they had to survive. Every situation was slightly different, with different backgrounds, relationships etc. While I think this was very interesting, I kind of wished Greene might have stuck to one group at a time and developing their story as well as more background information leading up to the event. I wish we would have had more insight from the character's perspectives on why the Reset was necessary and how long talks had been going on. It's as if these characters are clueless and it came from no where.
As far as action, adventure and the premise, I definitely would give this one a thumbs up. I got this on Kindle Unlimited and easily one clicked book two immediately after reading. I've never read Greene before, but they've captured my attention. I look forward to continuing this series.
Pretty Good Read, Fast Moving Action, Solid Characters.
Kellee Greene has written a ton of books and this the first one that I've Read. I'm moderately impressed with it, she manipulates the expected end-of-the -world tropes with aplomb and if at times her multiple point of view narration gets a little muddy, she still manages to keep her book on the rails. I liked it but maybe not enough to read three sequels --only time and desperation will tell.
The characters are well developed and liked. There is a lot going on in this story of survival. The romance is hardly there since everyone is just trying to survive.
This series definitely grabs you from the start. No lagging or dragging. It's easy to get into and the characters are easy to like or dislike as the case may be.
Rather different from other SHTF books but interesting twist nonetheless. I know why I am surprised by a flood story because I live in Louisiana and we are surrounded by water. On to Book 2.
So glad I'm not stuck with a bunch of unnecessary characters. Half of them get killed off in the first 30 pages, which is right up my alley. I'm not sure what actually happened here and probably never will, but who cares. It's not a bad book.
A good start. I am interested in the characters, they are toughening up. Characters are introduced in separate chapters, in the same universe but unaware of each other. I am hoping they will encounter each other eventually. I look forward to the second book in the series.
Different type of apocalyptic book.Excellent start to book, introduction of main characters.Broken into three groups.Makes it a extremely remarkable read.
I give credit for a more unusual cause of the disaster and assume at some point we might find out who caused this an why. I also hope there will be some reasonable science to explain the three completely different disasters in each area. There are a lot of editing errors with punctuation, word usage and sentence structure. Any proofreading effort should have fixed a lot of these. There was a lot of jumping around between the 3 POVs which was kind of confusing, but my issue with the characters is that they were so similar. Once their backgrounds were not at the forefront, they were all like cutouts of each other so that I had to use their sidekicks to know which person was being discussed (or leaf back to the start of the chapter). Adam and Eva run into a naked corpse hanging from a tree and then there is no more discussion about what the heck it was doing there and how that happened. Apparently this was a red herring of some kind? I may read the next to see what happens and hope for better character development and writing.
An attempt to "reset" the world causes weather-related devastation of apocalyptic proportions.
Oy. Where to start? I knew this was not going to be good when there was a missed word in the second sentence. This was followed by numerous grammatically incorrect sentences, tense shifts, and missed or wrong words used ("supposed" used in place of "survived", for example.) Then there appeared to be at least one page missing, because a woman who was following behind and not moving very fast was suddenly involved in the conversation on the next page. It seems as though this book wasn't edited at all.
I wish the story made up for the messiness, but no. There is nothing new in the plot. I wonder if this was written by a young girl, because all the characters are young and generic. I definitely got them mixed up, and would have to use their male companions to tell them apart. About the only one interesting was Eva, and we only see her through her boyfriend's eyes as a conniving, pretentious alcoholic. Without her, this book wouldn't get any stars.
This is an original story with several point of views from developed characters. The story follows different sets of characters as they struggle to adapt to this new weather pattern that has destroyed their towns and lives as they know it. Each point of view allows glimpses into what is going on and let’s the reader see what they are battling. This first novel in the series leaves you anticipating what is going to happen and leaves you wondering if they will eventually find out what is going on and figure out a way to survive the unpredictable and dangerous weather. Kellee Greene manages to create unique storylines and landscapes in each of her series. I received this as an ARC copy for an honest review. This is a must read and if you have not read any of her other books, then please do so now. Once again, her book will captivate you and you will not put it down until you finish it!
So far not bad, I’ve just started book two. I like the way the author brought about the apocalypse with a planet environmental “reset” because it could be a possibility. The choices of survivors could be a little better. So far it’s mostly young adults who are clueless in their effort to survive but learning quickly about bad people and lack of food/water and shelter. Hopefully there will be a few older wiser adults thrown in along the way to even things out a bit since the younger groups tend to bicker childishly and worry about who is flirting with who at times. Good start to a series, will see where it goes.
This is the first book I have read from Kellee L. Greene and it's a brilliant start to a six-book series The Reset. It's a different take on other apocalyptic books and makes for a really good reading. It does jump back and forth between other characters and their own stories and initially, it's difficult to keep track but it makes it better in the end. I loved Flood and I'm starting on number two Sinking.
Though this story is somewhat entertaining (in a very young adult kind of way), I waited and waited to get to the good part. What was the Reset??? I refuse to read another part of the series because that question should have been answered in the first chapter.
Keller Greene's writing is tight, fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat to the last sentence. I'm going to get the next book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens next. It has the ominous feel of tomorrow's news.
The building of the characters in this book is pretty good for a short book. With three sets of characters to create and identify it should have been difficult to keep up, but it wasn’t. Great story. Can’t wait to read more.
This story follows a few different groups, all very different people as the reset happens. The different situations are interesting, with the same event causing very different disasters in the different areas. Great story, now I will be moving onto the next one.
This was a good book from page one! I always try to figure out how I would survive this sort of apocalypse but I never really come to a conclusion. With the way this world is going perhaps we should be planning for this sort of scenario. Anyway, good read, highly recommend.
