Rereading book three just reminded me how brilliantly unhinged this series is. A Most Excellent Midlife Crisis takes Daisy’s already ridiculous life and somehow makes it even more chaotic, more emotional, and more laugh‑out‑loud funny. Robyn Peterman has perfected the art of turning midlife into a supernatural circus, and Daisy is the ringmaster whether she likes it or not.
Daisy’s “normal” — and we’re using that word very loosely — is back in full force. Ghost squatters, superglue emergencies, dogs with more common sense than most people, and a love life that involves a Demon in her bed and an Angel trying to kill her. Honestly, she deserves hazard pay. Or at least a lifetime supply of merlot.
The emotional stakes hit harder in this one. Daisy is faced with a massive decision: does she want to live forever? It’s a question that would send anyone spiralling, and watching her try to process it with wine, sarcasm, and avoidance is peak Daisy. She’s messy, she’s overwhelmed, she’s exhausted — and she’s still trying to do the right thing, even when she has no idea what that is.
Her relationship with the Grim Reaper continues to be the hottest, weirdest, most chaotic romance imaginable. Angels are terrifying, Demons are inconveniently attractive, and Daisy is stuck in the middle trying to figure out who she is becoming. The supernatural world keeps expanding, and every new revelation makes her life more complicated in the best possible way.
The humour is sharp, the pacing is fast, and the emotional moments sneak up on you. Daisy’s friendships remain the heart of the series — supportive, hilarious, and absolutely essential to her survival. When the going gets tough, the tough grab wine and their girlfriends, and honestly, that’s a life philosophy I can get behind.
This book is everything I love about Paranormal Women’s Fiction: sass, heart, supernatural chaos, and a heroine who refuses to go quietly into midlife. Daisy’s crisis is excellent, ridiculous, and surprisingly moving, and I adored every moment of it.
A fantastic reread and another standout entry in a series that just keeps getting better.
