If you've ever wanted to write a Regency romance but are intimidated by the research, look no further.
In a simple, organized way, award-winning journalist and author Jewel Allen covers all aspects of Jane Austen's era so you can write and publish your Regency bestseller in no time. This book is especially geared for authors who want to rapid release in one of the top-selling genres in romance.
Jewel Allen is an award-winning journalist, author and ghostwriter who grew up in the tropics (Manila, Philippines) and now lives in the desert (Utah, USA). She writes historical fiction, sweet contemporary romance, paranormal mystery, and memoir.
This book contained some helpful information, but not nearly enough. This book was more about a very brief overview of the regency period and less about how to actually write in the genre. There were also two "interviews" at the end that were basically verbatim transcripts (no joke - they talk about the weather and cows in the field) and only tangentially related to writing regency romance. They felt like filler to me and provided very little in the way of useful information. On top of all that, I got the impression that the author was still new to the genre rather than experienced in it (she mostly talked about the very first regency romance she'd ever written). I want to take advice from an expert, not someone new to the genre. I also wasn't scared about writing regency romance until the author kept mentioning how scary the idea was to her and how brutal reviewers can be if you get one tiny detail wrong. This is the second non-fiction book I've read by this author, and I won't be picking up another. They're too light, have an amateur-ish feel, and the author doesn't (in my opinion) have the experience needed to teach on the subject matter.
