Drixonian Warrior #3

The Alien's Undoing

Rate this book
"My true crime podcasts didn't prepare me for this planet."

Reba: I consider myself a true crime expert. Never let yourself be transported to a second location. Kidnapping 101, right? Well, not on an alien planet apparently. I escaped the pack of blue aliens on hover bikes only to fall victim to even worse aliens. I must have missed the danger hierarchy memo during Outer Space Abduction Orientation. My only hope is the blue alien who tracked me down, but now he's a prisoner too, and he's not too happy with me...

Ward: Everything is going according to plan until the loud yellow-haired human decides to leap off the back of my bike and get herself taken by the slimy Rizars. My leader's order is simple: Retrieve the human. His orders aren't to desire her with every beat of my heart, but that's exactly what happens. Now we're on the run together, trying to survive. One thing is certain: she's mine, and I'll protect her until my last breath.

The Alien's Undoing is a full-length Sci-Fi Romance novel featuring a brainy heroine with questionable survival skills, and a grumpy, pierced, possessive hero who's willing to do anything for his female.

He was a better boyfriend than I’d ever had, and we couldn’t even talk yet. Or maybe that was why he was a good boyfriend. Maybe if I could understand him, he’d say dumb shit like every other man I’d ever met.

so true so true💯💯💯💯💯

3.5 stars. I liked this one better than book 2. The progression of the romance feels more authentic; there’s an instant physical connection but the emotional connection follows more slowly. We also get some more language barrier shenanigans.

Exciting Journey on an alien world!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😟👽😘👽
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Reba - she was kidnapped from her bed by aliens and taken to a distant galaxy, dumped on an alien planet where a bunch of massive muscular aliens with horns, tails and huge fangs decimated the group of aliens that brought human women to the planet and grabbed the women, put them on their hover bikes and took off.

The Hero: Ward - he is a Drixonian warrior and just wants to protect the human females who were held captive on his planet, so he can’t understand why the female he was saving got all hysterical and difficult, also why she awakened his dormant libido. So when she runs away and is captured by crocodile like people, he has to go after her, when he finds that she was taken by a Rhizar pack and he must get her back before they get her to their caves.

The Story: Though all the Drixonian women died out a while ago, they weren’t the ones that kidnapped humans from Earth. Since a few of the females had now been mated to Drixonian men, they now know that humans are compatible with them. Either way, the Drixonians want to take care of the women since females are revered in their culture. The Uldani wanted to build an army of Drixonians by mating them with humans in captivity and growing their army from children.

Ward had to free Reba from her captivity before the Rhizar pack (a crocodilian like race) could fatten her up and eat her. This book had a journey similar to that in the last book The Alien’s Escape though this one was a bit more interesting to me for some reason. It was super steamy and Ward was a sexy Hero, though I thought Ward was an odd name for an alien.

Like the last book, this one was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer. Though neither of these narrators is on my list of favorites, they do a good job. I always seem to like narrators more once I get used to them and since I am listening to this one right after the last one, they sound even better than I thought while listening to the last one.

Re-read this as my group July LBR:
Midnight's Embrace

W (O.O) W!

Ward and Reba's story was a great continuation to this series. Reba ticked me off with her actions that led to their predicaments, but I understood why she made the choice. Everyone deals with fear, flight or fight grief differently. Her initial choice was just wrong... Which unfortunately led to A LOT of scary mess, but beautiful bonding and truths being revealed along the way.

The chemistry with Ward & Reba is amazingly hot and sweet. I loved watching these two together.

I loved how this one came together. Never a dull moment. The reunion of Ward and the Clavas and the tender moments between he and his blood brother, Gar, just broke and mended my heart all at once. Love this.

I would most definitely, and highly recommend this series.

Though these can be read as stand-alones, I do think reading them in order serves a better purpose for the reader, when trying to stay in sync with the overall plot of the story as it moves along.

Man, I am seriously digging this series so far!
Though I will certainly admit that the h in this one...…
was a tad bit.....

frustrating.

And by frustrating, you know that I mean she was just slightly above a level of tolerant annoyance.

Her indecisiveness on trusting him...especially when they get kidnapped (again ehh). Like, dude, I get trust issues. But REALLY, he literally has told you how bad these other Clavas are, and is suddenly putting on a show (which is OBVIOUSLY a show sister) and the whole time your thinking,
"Was it all a lie? Who is he? Why would he do this to me?"

Girl...….wat is you on about baby....

He LITERALLY just finished telling you how other groups are not like his own and you want to stand there and say "you are the same as them" like, WAT. Girl stop. He clearly was Good enough to jump-on before you could even communicate with him...

Double standards ain't cute.

I cannot seriously wait for GAR!!! Big, sad heroes are my friggin' jam man.

Heroine is idiotic. Tries to run away from her rescuer and gets kidnapped by flesh eating aliens, Also is vegan and tries to justify her beliefs on an alien planet. Like sis, survival is the goal here. Worse, has sex with hero while wondering if he is married with kids and literally thinking 'sue me but I don't care if I'm a homewrecker. I need this'. Complete turn off.

Although this story was very well written and entertaining, I was upset with Ward's female, Reba.
She did things early on that angered me. So I rated this story four stars.

The plot is very involved and interesting and constantly evolving. I really enjoy the action sequences as well as the fucking in all of these books. So I will be returning for the fourth book.

I wished I could open my chest and give her my beating cora so she could poke and prod it until she was satisfied it beat for her.

5 stars!

This series by Ella Maven seems to get better and sexier with each book! I absolutely love the chemistry and adventure she seamlessly weaves into each book, and the romance between Ward and Reba was so brilliant. Ward is the grumpy protector of the Drixonian group who vows to protect Reba at all costs, so when she escapes into the surrounding forest in a run for freedom his duty--and his cora--demand that he chases after her. As Ward and Reba fight to get back to safety on a planet filled with dangers, Reba slowly realizes that Ward isn't the worst alien on this new planet to depend on, while Ward realizes all that he would do to protect his mate. The chemistry between them was so steamy, and I loved the pacing and action of the story. I've come to really love this series and look forward to the next book♡

Tropes: fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, alien abduction, alien/human pairing, size difference, language barrier, protector hero, heroine-in-danger

Yep, I'm officially super addicted to this series. The time it takes you to read this review will probably be the time it takes me to close Goodreads and pick up my Kindle and start the next book. We're talking back to back, people!

I was ready to give this five stars just for Ward's ultra sexy love-making prowess.
"He fucked like a god" - Reba's words, and I have to agree!

But Reba's trust issues pissed me off and made me like her less by the end of the book. Still, she redeemed herself (mostly) and I (mostly) forgave her.

On to the next!

This is my fourth Maven Warrior series book, and... she lost it on this one.

At the beginning of the series, six human women are abducted from earth, delivered by ship to another planet, and a group of Drixonians were to pick them up and deliver them to bad guys. Thing is, the Drix didn't know the cargo they were to deliver was HUMANS, and they especially didn't know they were females. Females are sacred/honored... and they aren't going to hand them over to bad guys. Not even in exchange for the Drix leader's kidnapped brother.

But the girls have NO idea what's going on, and don't know who to trust, and Reba is the absolutely psychotic one, who woke up screaming on the ship, was out of her mind irrational every time she regained consciousness, was panicked and out of her mind during the hand-off, and when fighting broke out, she was absolutely hysterical. She's the one who thrashes so wildly she has to be pinned down... until she manages to get away... and they have to send a tracker after her to try to rescue her from the bad guys that she manages to bump into in the wilds.

This was all covered in the first two books. So we go into this expecting a complete basket-case of a character, as something different.

But Maven doesn't deliver.

Reba ends up being the SAME PERSONALITY as the last two women (Maven's personality, shining thru?). She's not shaking uncontrollably, unable to think/function... no, she's spunky. And that's not Reba. It was an UTTER disappointment that she couldn't write a basket-case. We didn't want more of the same. This was supposed to be a completely different personality, a freak-out heroine who was out of her mind. Reba... was not out of her mind. Immediately, she's regretting her stupidity and taking on the character of the other women.

((((sigh.))))

I want writers to step outside of themselves and create a character that *ISN'T* them. It's not easy, but that's why writing is a craft. You can always tell a good writer by the voices they can conjure up. This... was utterly disappointing.

"You could've left me, you know. Go back to what you do. Like, bench press elephants, maybe?" she snorted at her own joke.

"I'll do anything it takes to get out of here, so I hope you have a plan to get out of here. Because all I have is the determination to survive."

"I pulled out something sharp from under me, and saw that it was a bone. A BONE. I gagged and tossed it."

Yeah, um... that's NOT psychotically, out-of-her-mind, screaming irrationally Reba. That's Fra-kee or Anna or Val talking above, but NOT Reba. ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING.

Honestly, though? I don't think the screamer/panicker would be the one to run. It'd be the silent, defiant one who would run. The screamer would be paralyzed with fear. Even if she *did* run, she'd curl up in a wad, somewhere - not get to her feet and flee. Maven chose the wrong girl for this story. If she freaks at everything the way the first two books indicated she does? She wouldn't be okay with going down a rickety ladder 200 feet over a cliff on the edge of ocean, hello.

Maven screws up Ward, too. He's supposed to be the stoic, 'grumpy', aloof one. And he keeps that up only until they reach water, and then he gushes, waxing poetical like the others. He's not supposed to be LIKE the others - he's supposed to be the grumpy, aloof one, hello. I really wanted these guys NOT to blend together, and Maven couldn't accomplish that, for me.

Reba also goes from 'I won't be a victim, I won't be a victim!' to 'I knew I'd have bruises for days, but I didn't care!' overnight. Whiplash, over here. Her sister was raped and strangled, but when Ward grabs her by the neck, she doesn't even *flinch*. She should've gone ballistic. But this story is BADLY done.

The language in this one got to me, too. I don't mind 'f's, but they're three and four a paragraph in this one. The 'flecks' are easier to take, but... Maven's heroines are ALL potty-mouths, which denotes a singular lack of imagination and creativity, imho. There's something distasteful about people who can't bring their vocabulary above that of a redneck.

It was a cheat to say that 'Gar could take the rest' of the bad Drix army, too - after making sure we knew that an army of Drix warriors were basically unbeatable. But half the Night Kings take off mid-battle to save the girls from a sneak attack... and I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that Gar and a reduced number with NO LEADER could take out an army of Drix warriors. It... didn't work. Not with the information we were given in the first two books about Drix warriors.

I was also SO NOT OKAY with Maven making light of (or dismissing) the concept of evil people. "They just think they're right, and superior" is NOT an acceptable excuse for rape, kidnapping, murder, lying, cheating, etc. E.V.E.R. Not okay with that.

There were a few good things. Gaul (as in the barbarian tribes of the Gallic empires of history) made me smile, as a nod to the past. Ward, which means 'protector'. 'Drixonor' = dishonor. Very clever word usage. And the way he taught her to observe was a plus.

But I felt very much like this one was... 'more of the same'. When we desperately needed something very different, with varied and unusual characters. So, no. This one didn't make me happy.

3.5 Stars. This is yet another good book in the series... but I definitely felt bad for the hero who endured some shit because of the heroine's decisions. I liked the fast moving storyline in this book, but I wished they had more downtime because it felt like too much drama/hardships for them to endure.

Safe; virgin hero, heroine not a virgin, no others

Least enjoyable to date. TSTL heroine, too macho of hero with terrible bedside manners. Lacking romance and any real chemistry tbh. The only saving grace was their pet pup Luna.

2.5 stars. I enjoyed the first two books in this series but this one was a sloggggg. Kept having to force myself to go back to it. They hooked up at 30% and then I completely lost interest. The MC’s are virtually indistinguishable from book to book. It’s starting to feel like if you’ve read one, you’ve read them all. Don’t think I’ll be continuing with the series.

Not a heroine

This book is your typical almost insta love romance with plenty of hot scenes. But the heroine was hard to swallow. Some reviewers mention that she eventually grew on them….not me. For about 60-70% of the book was about her botching up everything and needing to be repeatedly rescued so that one time she grew some cojones did not help overshadow the rest of inane things she did. One of the worst heroines.

Read this one in one night. While reading this, I was thinking this is my favorite of the series so far...and that was true until I read The Alien's Revenge, the next book, this morning. 😊 It is now my favorite. Anyway, that's for my next review.

I was hesitant to start this one because I thought Reba would annoy me and that's on me, because she didn't. She ran because she was afraid and once she realized the mistake she made, she knew she was better off with Ward.

Maven writes some sexy times and this one was no exception. She had my tablet steaming up. LOL

This was a good read and it was so cute. I loved how Reba adopted a pet. It was so sweet. She was also tough and a good learner. She saved herself and she saved Ward.

I'm enjoying this series very much and I am looking forward to finishing up this series and moving onto the next where they find their missing warriors.

Random Thoughts:

💜 The whole "baby daddy" thing was hilarious.

💜 It was Sax who said that as he is learning Earthisms. LOL

💜 Ward's a cuddler.

💜 How cute.

💜 I love the sense of family we get from this series and the glimpses we get with each of the previous warrior's and their mates.

💜 It's so sweet.

The fun continues!

"She is all. And she is all to me."

The Alien's Undoing catches up with Ward and Reba. Ward is all about duty. He's solemn, broody, and honorable. Reba is talkative, bubbly, and impulsive. Together, they were perfect. I like the plot twists this one added to the series. The clavas now has a lot more to deal with than the Uldani. Book 3 introduces to us fellow Drixonians who don't share the same respect for women and humans as the clavas we know does. This adds to the threat our friendly blue aliens and human women are facing.

One thing I really enjoyed about this installment is seeing the budding, blended community of Drixonians and humans. It was cute to see everyone together and finding their place. I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait to continue!

An exciting adventure tour through the wilderness of Torin with a local expert devoted to his conviction for this freshly abducted and here stranded human woman on the planet with blue vegetation and green water - all with some biker flair and cute characters.

Nice and entertaining with HEA and an overall story through the books 📚

My Thoughts:
Honestly in the beginging i was really agravated with reba. I understand she didn’t know that the draxconians were friendly and wanting to protect them. But it seems really stupid to run off on a ailen planet. Ya know? Although as the story went on reba got less annoying. Now Ward the hero i actually really liked. He was a good character and didn’t make me want to pull my hair out. He’s not my favorite hero through out this series but i still liked him.

Story wise it was good. Action packed and i did like their romance. This was another solid entry to the series.

Reba reacts exactly how most of us would if an alien suddenly threw her on the back of a flying motorcycle—she panics, bails, and takes off running. Her inner true crime fan is screaming that this is a bad idea and honestly, she’s not wrong. What she doesn’t know is that this particular group of aliens is actually here to help.

Ward is sent to track her down and bring her back, but his simple rescue mission quickly turns into a dangerous survival situation. He takes one look at Reba and decides protecting her is now his top priority. Meanwhile, Reba is having a hard time processing the fact that she’s very attracted to this intense, blue, horned alien who is a little too good at the whole “alpha protector” thing.

This was a really entertaining addition to the series. The world remains as wild and unpredictable as ever—apparently, you can’t go ten minutes on this planet without something trying to eat you or kidnap you. Thankfully, there are plenty of tough, hunky aliens around to step in and keep the Earth women alive.

The audiobook performance adds a lot to the story. Reba’s voice is sharp and funny, while Ward’s narration brings the right level of tension and focus. It makes the story more fun and their connection more real.

Final Thoughts:
If you like action, steam, and aliens who look like they bench-press spaceships, you’ll enjoy this one!🛸

Ward and Reba’s book is a great addition to the series

I enjoyed this book as much as the previous two. Ward and Reba go through a great deal, while unable to communicate. They have to trust each other based on actions alone. I enjoyed watching these two grow together and trust, even with a language barrier...but there is one language that everyone understands, the love language....but will it be enough? Now I wait for the next book!
