Sunny Marlow wants a lover, not a savior…

Sunny Marlow loves her life. After surviving a traumatic and highly publicized kidnapping as a teen, she’s embraced a new name and career as a florist in a tiny Scottish Highland village, where her only worries are that her sex-toy-selling foster sister will try to run another “Get a Free Vibrator with Every Bouquet” special, and that her childhood friend Jackson will keep blaming himself for what happened to her all those years ago.

However, all that’s threatened when battle-scarred war journalist Seth Legion arrives in town claiming to be working on a piece starring her irrepressible foster brother. Sunny knows that getting involved with a journalist threatens her safe world—not to mention stirring up her adoptive family’s protective streak—but she can’t help but feel the attraction, sensing Seth’s past holds secrets as deep as hers.

What Sunny doesn’t know is that Seth has come to Scotland for her, having seen the chance to make up for a friend’s lapse in judgement regarding Sunny’s case all those years ago. However, Seth never counted on the chemistry between them—or the fact that his presence in the Highlands could be putting her life in jeopardy . . .

A witty, fun romance with some serious themes woven in. An excellent feel-good read. Note, explicit sex scenes. Some of you will know this author as Georgina Penney. She's now writing in collaboration with her partner as Evie Snow.

Captured (renamed Save Me From Heroes) was a contemporary romance by Evie Snow. It was my first book by the authors.

Sunny Marlow was a floral shop owner in a small Scotland village. She was wary of strangers, for good reason, and avoided the spotlight. When someone new came to town focusing on her family and friends, her cautious nature kicked in.

Seth Legion was a famous war time photo journalist. He was also a grieving friend set on making a wrong, right for a friend.

The authors told a tale of the impact of past demons on present life. It was a world filled with guilt, skepticism, pain, and nightmares. But they also provided a journey of hope, loyalty, protectiveness, forgiveness and healing. It had a suspenseful vibe mixed in with emotion and humor - lots of humor. It was well written, well developed and a tale worthy to be read.

There was no mention of future stories, but there are so many more to be told. Hopefully we’ll see Jackson, Tommy and Ellie again soon.

I think this has just become my fave Evie Snow novel. What's not to like? A dashing pirate-style battle-hardened journalist hero and a reclusive heroine with a notorious, but resilient past.
Sunny is the only survivor of a serial killer as a teen, and this story begins about a decade later when Sunny's identity and cover is blown.
This had castles, haggis, fisticuffs, suspense, drama, flowers, sex toys and a dog called Cupcake.
It really was a gorgeous story, well edited, and it flowed beautifully from go to whoa.

i’m not going to lie, reading the first 50 pages made me think that this book was plagiarising the concept from one of my favourite books ever, ‘most of all you’ by mia sheridan. i was heavily inclined to stop reading, because i don’t support creators stealing content without permission, but the plot deviated enough from sheridan’s novel, so i continued with my reading.

of course, there is the possibility that these similarities were pure coincidence. however, little details caught me so off guard in similarity. the main one being jackson and gabriel who shared a pottery talent, and the both of them being associated with kidnapping. they’re so inconspicuous, but i was so aware of them. i was excited because i loved ‘most of all you’ with every fibre inside of me, and i have been looking for something similar for a while, but this bordered on too similar at parts.

i really wish that this book was longer :(. the small town setting riddled with suspense was well done, but other aspects need to be devolved more. i think both seth and sunny individually had incredibly strong, unique characterisations that i would have loved to seen explored more their romantic relationship. i’m aware that much of their love for this book revolved around the fact that they barely knew each other, but there was just something there. it was telling rather than showing, the ‘insta-love’ sort of factor enabling many to brush over the fact that these two probably had three conversations and then seth was all like ‘i’ve been trying to protect her this whole time’. i absolutely hate insta love because when it is employed, authors have this attitude that they can completely skip over the characters getting to know each other. and i couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied with how rushed and forced parts of their relationship was. they were incredibly cute together, but as i said, much of their progression and discovery of their feelings was skipped over, with little internal dialogue to explore such emotions, leaving me feel somewhat unrequited from their romance.

however, i did like the shift in perceptions from most characters in the story. i’ll try to remain as spoiler free as possible, but even though seth knew a lot of the unbearably disgusting remnants from sunny’s past, he didn’t truly know sunny. he came with this picture of this broken woman, and sunny was the opposite of that. the shift in motivations with his pursual of her was quite gorgeous, considering he was within a precarious battle with guilt that was described magnificently. something similar was seen with sunny, and her change in mindset of having to always be sheltered from unknowns, to then be able to open up to someone in such a beautifully raw, intimate way as she did with seth. i couldn’t even fathom how much strength it would have taken someone like her after all of those experiances to be that vulnerable.

jackson endured slow but steady character growth. like sunny, he had to allow her to move on with her life and not be afraid to put herself out there. sunny always said that jackson didn’t love her romantically, but i got completely different vibes from him. his possessiveness was definitely ridden from an emotion truly emphatic within his heart, rather than just friendly protection. i liked him. he was definitely giving grumpy, traumatised man and i was gobbling his appearance up everytime. and of seth wasn’t as cute as he was - all of his unabashed wittiness and charming arrogance - i would have most absolutely pined for him ending up with sunny at the end. tommy was annoying, but in that normal teenage boy way where everything seemingly has to be about him. i don’t have much else to comment about him other than i hope he apologises to like everyone for his feral antics when he is more mature.

grief is a powerful emotion. it’s something that fails to be illustrated in its haunting-ness. the authors played with how it can be such a strong motivator for decisions that can seem really irrational; and how when you are wound up in grief, it’s all consuming. it can be experienced in all different ways, too, which every character pretty much experienced in their own individual way. that was quite special, as grief is not something that can be singularly characterised, but yet all involve a form of suffering that can be expressed internally or externally through actions, words and thoughts.

i enjoyed the suspense in this novel. it was captivating, and when it was integrated into the plot, was action packed and did not allow me to stop turning the pages over. i don’t know if the revealed identity during can be considered a plot twist, but i guessed the twist and the maybe took some of the anticipation out of it for me. but nonetheless, i thoroughly enjoyed the tension which i could physically feel with the rapid beating of my heart at times. and it was embarrassing how many times i had to fight back a gasp on the train, because people kept looking at me and making me uncomfortable.

there were some really cute parts in this book, too. i loved cupcake, who is just the most adorable little dog. i loved ellie and her unabashed quirkiness. and i just loved the humour too; it was so sweet and made me feel very warm inside when i usually feel rather dull.

this three star rating is not meant to be a negative one, but rather a neutral reflection on this book.

What a captivating story is Captured.

Right from the start, I knew I was going to enjoy this book.

Sunny and Seth's story is not always an easy one, as we learn more of their pasts your heart will hurt, especially for Sunny.

It is dramatic, entertaining and most of all, fully of hope. Sunny has been looking over her shoulder for years, and as a reader you just want her to finally find some peace.

There is something that Seth is hiding, and as a reader I was just waiting for the shoe to drop and how our lovelies would deal with it (which they did like adults, woohoo!)

I loved the Scottish setting, and wonderful characters that I am looking forward to more of in the future.

Captured is a full length novel with plenty of heart. It is the story of Sunny, a woman who was forced to change her identity because of a photograph which accompanied a story of her rescue from a serial killer. It is also the story of Seth, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist whose close friend (who took the infamous picture) was beheaded while trying to obtain a story in a war ravaged country. Seth feels guilty because he recommended his friend for this mission, not knowing that it was a high risk assignment.
Seth discovers Sunny in an unlikely location, thus setting into motion a plan to assuage his guilt.
The author has written a plot with depth and very human characters. Even the secondary characters play strong roles in the story telling. Many of these characters have been damaged and the way each one moves forward is the very essence of the novel. This book is about finding your way through difficult times and learning how to let go of the past and discover a life filled with hope, peace and perhaps even love.

I really enjoyed reading Captured. The characters in it are well fleshed out, they have their own quirks, strengths and failings. Their lives are messy and flawed but they make the most of it and are all the more engaging because of it. Sunny and Seth are a wonderful couple, they treat each other with respect and value each other to talk about their problems. This is what I love about Evie Snow's books, the characters don't hide from each other, they don't run from a little molehill they have made into a mountain and they are always well rounded. There is also always a real element of humour, and pets and Captured is not short on either. I look forward to reading about Sunny's foster siblings.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The story was believable. All the characters were likeable and relatable. They all had their flaws and their own challenges to overcome. Each of them was guilty of their own stupid mistakes along the way.

I loved that, despite her fears, Sunny was a strong character who didn't need rescuing, no matter how many other people thought she should.

This was a real feel good read and I just wanted to keep reading to see what came next.

Am I glad I read it - absolutely
Was it a waste of my time - not at all
Would I sit down and read it all over again - yes, I would
Would I read more by this author based on this book - just downloaded Evangeline's Rest to start on next

It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but once in.....I couldn’t put it down!
As usual all of the characters and their surroundings are so well described, it’s almost as if you know them or have been there.
This is the story of Sunny and Seth and both of them have their own demons of the past to deal with, just as a few of the other characters. It’s got so much depth, there is a lot going on, but it is just as heartwarming as other books by Evie Snow. I really loved this book!

I received an arc of this book from the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Such a great read. The plot had more edge and suspense than a typical contemporary romance. Took a little while to build up to the story with a slower start before the main characters meet, but once they do, it was hard to put the book down. Loved the humor throughout (and all the gorgeous pets, especially French bulldog, Cupcake!), and there were such different and real characters, especially the main characters, Seth & Sunny.

Looking forward to the next Scottish Secrets book!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A slow start in a fast setting which would morph into what becomes a wonderful captivating story.

With plot twists set against realities of what war and media can do to a person the novel pulled me further and further in.
The 'heroine' is a foster kid with foster brothers and sister.
There is the 'naughty' but ultimately nice sister (Whom I just adored for her humour and antics- please write more of her Evie!), a cute wannabe model of a brother and the brother that lost and found her again.
With nosy villagers and a handsome suitor with his own unique story, this tale CAPTURED me.

Sunny is been hiding from the world in Mackle, a tiny town in high Scotland after a traumatic experience as a teenager. But when Seth, a fampus photojournalist comes to town she is afraid that she will be in the news again. Can Seth free Sunny from her own prision or will Sunny be the one to set Seth free for his own demons? A heartwarming action packed story.

Paying it forward
By Korkoi

It took me a while to get into the story but once I did, I couldn't stop reading because I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next. It is well written, with some drama and entertainment set in a wonderful Scottish Town. Who can resist a romantic story set in the Highlands. It is a definite must read book.

Totally unexpected, humorous, dramatic and romantic all in one.

I liked how many of the characters dealt with things life threw at them. Guilt is a powerful emotion and depending on how it is handled, can serve to help move forward or remain stuck.

This is more thriller than romance. Former serial killer captive/torture victim and grieving journalist meet under misleading circumstances. There's a lot of dark material here and also some great humor.

A fun enough read with likeable enough characters. The trope of the main protagonist having endured a hellish backstory (rape/kidnap/abuse/other) and that being the reason for their singledom/not going out/inability to trust is getting ver-r-r-y boring now, not to mention being incredibly disrespectful to people who have undergone that and are now seeing their trauma being used as a handy little character-developer. An awful past is not a character trait, nor is it character development if they get over it with the help of a man. But all in all, a fun, I'm-feeling-ill-and-need-some-escapism book.
